I also pretty much agree with the rest of your post as well! Some people don't fully realize this but whales completely keep the game running, and the pricing in gacha games is reflected for them. I know we wish that prices are often lowered so that we could support the game at more reasonable cost, bit it'll often result in less revenue for for the company. They rather have the whales support, but this effectively gives me some nice jiggle to look at for free (｡•̀ᴗ-)✧
Those interested in this phenomenon can look up "niche markets vs mass markets"
I even know some people on other gacha games that spent as much as $1000 on a single banner. Compare that to my measily $18 I've put into DC since December 2018...
Do your best to focus defeating your own summons until you become a slayer as early as you can (aka hit level 40 boss).
You need to do at least 2% damage yourself to the boss that you summoned for them level up, but can definitely call for help from slayers and friends to help you kill it (especially if you're starting out and have a weaker team). Good to try and get as high as you can early.
Yes it'll be Catherine first and then Rin in terms of collecting priority for me. Didn't include Katherine in comparison since she's free.
So far no luck from 12 multis (surpringly no 5* at all). Got 2 weeks left for Catherine so it ain't over till it's over (｡•̀ᴗ-)✧
If you're thinking of min-maxing your team you can probably read this and make your best judgement:
Otherwise if you're like me and just want to collect all the waifus, then it's more up to who you like and don't like haha. For me, I've just kept 1 of each waifu and onxyed the rest (I play this game as a collector rather than competitive player).

Save your crystals for the collab coming in less than 24 hours from now. Well that's assuming you want the collab units in the first place haha ( ╹▽╹ )
Collab units are limited and will not come back. It's a one event thing. The character I attached is only available through gacha. The brown haired one should be obtainable through the event itself. There's a pink haired character coming in a week that's only available through the gacha as well.
Anyways it seems you are essentially just starting so there's gonna be a lot of beginner crystals coming your way as you progress through the game.
For now focus on leveling up the characters you have to make the event a bit easier to do.
ouch! yea I totally get ya. it can be pretty discouraging at times. I've been playing since December and can definitely say I've I've had some pretty long lulls of bad pulls as well. I've pretty much resorted to never pulling if I can already get the child through the event, and resist pulling if a collab is coming up (Newbie Mona was an exception to this cuz ya know (｡•̀ᴗ-)✧)
I hope RNGesus blesses you in the next event!
I agree; My data relies on trust that dev's posted posted rates are true. Though I don't see why they would lie, since lying about rates would be an easy lawsuit waiting to happen. It would be better for them if they didn't post it at all if they were planning to lie about it. (note* in Japan gacha rates are required to be public by law).
The 'best' data would actually be the cumulative statistics of the pulls and gem accrual rate from the players. However, there's no clean way to get this. Depending on people from forums to provide their results always gives an incorrect distribution, since we are not evenly sampling from the true distribution. Confirmation bias everywhere!
This post was really just to provide another perspective. Most people see the rate only but don't consider the amount of premium currency accrual in the process.
Good and bad will always be a relative subject. This is true in all aspects of life and morality. If a company charges $5000 for a phone, but everyone buys it, then that's the norm. There's nothing 'good' or 'bad' about it. If it's too high for the consumer, and they don't buy, then the company will simply have to lower their price or go bankrupt.
The 18000 gems pricing is designed for whales. A normal player doesn't blow that kind of money when they know they can accrue that many gems in 2 weeks. DC doesn't have a huge benefit margin per dollar for those who pay. There's little point in calculating this for most players that are f2p. Niche markets depend entirely on whales to stay afloat, and this game definitely falls in that category. Charging "reasonable" prices will hurt them more since the majority of players still won't spend a cent.
If you want to jump into the whole psychological aspect... yes gacha games hit the same exact aspects of the human psyche as gambling. It's addiction. Why do people gamble knowing the house has the advantage? Because it's addicting to win. Why did gacha games get so popular? Because it's addicting to win your character with that uncertainty looming in the background. In the end it's about what we are willing to pay for that addictive high. There isin't a 'value' or 'resale value' assigned to that, and that's up to the consumer entirely.
Yea I get what you mean haha. I'm one of those that didn't get Newbie Mona after 80k crystals... but that's RNG for ya!
╮(. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)╭
Anyways don't fret about it too much; both Anemone and Newbie Mona will come back. You'll get your chance to try again! Let's focus on Catherine for now, as that one is a one time thing and not coming back!
Yes mobile games with trading pretty much end up with a completely wrecked economy, and uber stacked accounts that top the rankings. They ruin it for everyone else. It's pretty much why mobile games today don't even bother with it.
Don't get me wrong, the basic idea is nice, but greed just ruins it.
I suppose it depends on what you want out of this game/event. If you just want the raid rewards (like the raid child and skin), then pretty much the answer is no, don't pull on this banner. You can get all the important rewards by just playing, even with a suboptimal team of base 5* units, as long as you can get to slayer status.
If you're goals are something else, like getting to a specific rank tier, then it is up to you on how valuable these banner characters are.
For me there is one right answer... save for collab!
I have a mobile game craze where I tend to download a bunch and try them out. Most don't don't stick around for long but some notable ones I toyed around with for a while were Azure Lane, Goddess Kiss, Bang Dream (this is a rhythm game). Mostly waifu games hahahaha. I kinda stopped playing these once I discovered Destiny Child hahahaha.
Currently trying out Crossing Void which is in beta right now. Official release at the end of this month. (FYI beta accounts get wiped on release, but we get 10 pulls lol). It's a fighting hero collector with every anime character in existence lol. I just pulled Taiga from Toradora for example (pic attached). Other animes I saw in the game were Railgun/Index, Hataraku Maou-sama, Sakurasou no pet na kanojo, Sword Art Online, Durarara, oreimo... to name a few. Fully voiced by the seiyus too.
Typically I can only keep up with 1 or 2 at a time and drop the rest. I spend more of my time on a PC game called Phantasy Star Online 2, which I've been playing since 2012
