Ixillis, Bane of Existence — or: How I Learned to Love
You should play Remnant: From the Ashes.
(Rhom doggo unrelated to most of this post; must pet.)
Let me tell you a quick something about this game. My buddy Carnage and I burned through the campaign over a month ago, and we were able to nuke things easily enough. Most “Soulslike” games are unforgiving, but it does help to have a partner to revive you — even if the fighting itself is more difficult. His sister started playing a bit after we did, but she was nowhere near as advanced as we are, in terms of gear or trait-leveling. When we originally hit Ixillis we struggled a bit, largely because we like going in blind to every encounter. It took us maybe 8 tries to put down the Ixillis, and that was fine. But after numerous Adventures and never once fighting Ixillis again, his sister asked for help on her campaign. So, there we go... shooting the Ixillis in the face... for nearly two hours without completion. Oof. The damage scaled so much that we couldn’t survive through the third song, which often doubled even after knocking one Ixillis, and even with multiple healing effects active. Nearly defeated them both multiple times, down to another few seconds was all we needed on a few occasions, but alas we died countless times. This sounds bad, I’m sure, but it was legitimately a blast to play even without success. This damn game is too addictive, and I love it. Soulslike, with heavy emphasis on gunplay? How was this game not more of a smash success? I know it takes all types, but.... I can’t gush enough about Remnant. If you haven’t played the game, you should. Thank you for listening to my TED Talk.
(Post Script: Day two, we completed it fairly quickly without the struggle by changing around some weapons and tactics. Cheers!)
