I really need to catch up on the meta of this game. I haven’t played in earnest in probably 2 years. Are there any big changes in the support meta?

The classic enchanters like Lulu and Janna are still good as supports but there's a lot more room for damage dealing supports now because games tend to snowball pretty quickly. Pyke (new champion) is very strong but a bit difficult to play. Brand and Zyra are always viable damage supports.

Idk if it makes me weird or not but it used to bug the hell out of me when people would play kill lanes with mage supports. To me it felt like a cop out of not wanting to play support and playing a mid laner as support 🤷🏻‍♀️. I may have to read some guides and hope my thresh is still in meta 😂

Thresh is still meta for sure. And mage supports have their disadvantages but it's a pretty snowball meta right now so it's a lot better to play a kill lane than a passive farm lane.
