Svenskeren is your LCS MVP!

Congratulations to Cloud9's Svenskeren for winning the 2019 Summer LCS MVP! The jungler has been on an absolute tear this split and certainly deserved the award.
It really was a 2-man race between Sven and Team Liquid's support, CoreJJ. Both players have been nothing short of phenomenal and they are a huge reason why their teams will be facing each other in the finals this weekend.

To illustrate just how close of a race this was, just check out the voting results:

1st – C9 Svenskeren (98 Points)
2nd – TL CoreJJ (94 Points)
3rd – TL Doublellift (50 Points)
4th – CLG Wiggily (25 Points)
5th – TL Impact (23 Points)
6th – OPT Crown (21 Points)
7th – TL Xmithie (18 Points)
8th – CLG Biofrost (17 Points)
9th – C9 Nisqy (16 Points)
10th – GGS Froggen (15 Points)

Just 4 points separated 1st and 2nd place while a whopping 44 points separated 2nd and 3rd. Sven and CoreJJ are clearly at the top of the league, and I can't wait to see what happens when they face off on Saturday!

League of Legends devs testing long-awaited Clash mode in NA

The League of Legends community has long awaited the implementation of tournament mode Clash to the game, and it looks like another step toward that reality is happening really soon.

For the uninitiated, Clash is a structured competitive mode where people can make up their team of five players to compete with other squads in a tournament bracket for a chance to win insane rewards.

Riot Games created massive amounts of hype among their players when the company initially announced Clash in the first half of 2018, just for the mode to be marred by technical difficulties and major delays.

It seemed like players had all but given up hope and forgotten about the mode until the League of Legends devs announced when it would be returning to the North America region for crucial feature and stress testing.

In an August 17 announcement, the Riot Games team revealed the dates for Clash tests that are coming to one of the biggest League of Legends regions around. Team creation for the testing periods will begin on August 19, a mere two days after Riot Games’ announcement.

The registration period will last all the way to August 23, where only the players who have finished their ranked placements and are “above Honor Level 2” will be able to enlist in a given roster.

The first day of games will be on Saturday, August 24 and will have two windows to participate in a tournament. The first will be at 6:00PM PST / 9:00PM EST and then again at 8:00PM PST / 11:00PM EST.

The second day will be Sunday, August 25, and the two windows for that say will be at the same time of 6:00PM PST / 9:00PM, EST and 8:00PM PST / 11:00PM EST.

Participating in the brief testing period will net players multiple rewards in the form of loot boxes, an icon, and victory points which can be used to unlock certain banners and team logos.

LCS Finals Schedule and Semifinal Results

The Finals are almost here!

In the first semifinal match, Cloud9 handily defeated CLG 3-1. It looked like it would be a clean 3-0 sweep and C9 was up over 10k gold in game 3 but shockingly managed to throw the game. Although this certainly gave fans PTSD flashbacks of Spring Split where C9 threw a 2-0 lead against TSM, this time Cloud9 stepped it up and won in Game 4.

The second semifinal match was an absolute barn-burner. Team Liquid was expected to dominate but they were pushed to the brink by Clutch Gaming. The score was 2-2 going into the fifth and final game. Team Liquid managed to eek out a win with a Sona-Taric comp and successfully secured their spot in the Finals.

The Finals will be between Cloud9 and Team Liquid on Sunday August 25 at 1pm Pacific. Clutch Gaming and CLG will battle for 3rd place one day earlier on Saturday August 24 at 1pm Pacific.

Echo Fox is Officially Leaving the LCS

Echo Fox will not be in the 2020 League of Legends LCS after a proposed sale of the team fell through this morning. Now, Riot Games will take over the process of selling the team’s slot in their league. Echo Fox is being pushed out of the LCS because of a public dispute between Rick Fox and a shareholder named Amit Raizada after Raizada used a racist slur in a conversation with former CEO Jace Hall. Raizada has refused to relinquish his shares in the team and Riot Games as a result has been forced to remove Echo Fox from the LCS.

New Reworked Patheon is here - Patch 9.16

https://youtu.be/DTNwrJGjpxo
His whole kit and lore have been reimagined and his look has changed accordingly. Riot Games has made Pantheon look as epic as he feels to play. In the champion’s new lore, Aatrox actually killed the Aspect that took over Pantheon’s body, but the human survived complete with all of the Aspect’s powers. Now Atreus—the human who the Aspect of War took over—is locked in a perpetual battle against Aatrox, fueled by his incredible willpower and strength.

Pantheon’s kit has plenty of elements that are similar to his old abilities, but they have all been modernized. Pantheon’s Q, for example, is still a spear throw, but it’s also a skill shot that can damage all enemies in a line. His E ability still launches a rapid spear attack, but it also grants invulnerability to damage from enemies in that direction.

Pantheon’s ultimate still has him jump up into the heavens, but instead of simply landing straight down on an area, he swoops down and damages enemies along the ground before dropping down on the targeted spot. It’s a great update to an iconic ultimate ability and it’s a lot flashier than its predecessor.

You can try Pantheon out for yourself when League‘s newest patch drops tomorrow on Wednesday, Aug. 14.

Twisted Treeline is getting removed

Twisted Treeline, best known as the 3v3 map, is being removed from the game. Even though it was unpopular, this still comes as a surprise to many because Twisted Treeline had a ranked game mode. I never played it personally so I have no attachment to it, but I could see how disappointing it would be to somebody who spent their time mastering the game mode and got to Diamond or Challenger in it.

9.14 Patch Notes

We've hit the halfway point of the season now and we are getting a MASSIVE patch to celebrate! Riot says this will likely be the biggest balance patch for the rest of the season and it's not hard to believe considering how much is in here. They have added thing like anti-healing and anti-shielding, they've nerfed the popular top lane ranged champions, and they've tweaked an insane amount of numbers. It's a long one, so let's get into it.

Teamfight Tactics lengthy wait times getting longer

North American Teamfight Tactics fans are seeing very lengthy delays when trying to queue up for the new autobattler, and the wait times are only going to get longer according to League of Legends dev Ed ‘SapMagic’ Altorfer.

In a June 26 tweet, the UX Lead for Teamfight Tactics share with the community that they have “enabled queue time throttling due to high demand.”

“Basically—we're having a hard time keeping up with all the TFT games right now,” SapMagic said. “Expect a 5+ minute delay, which helps keep our servers from crashing.”

But the Riot dev added more bleak news for hopeful players in a follow up tweet just few hours later as the game apparently increased in popularity that’s only going to increase the annoying wait for many.

“[The queue time throttling] is increasing as more players log in and try to play games,” SapMagic said. “We're seeing what we can do, but expect this to get longer, 10-15+ minutes, until things calm down.”

9.13 Patch Notes

A new game mode AND a new champion? This patch is just what the doctor ordered. Although she's not live quite yet (supposed to release on Friday), Qiyana is the latest high mobility, super-high-skill-cap champion to hit the rift. Her kit seems absolutely incredible in the right hands and (depending on her numbers of course) I fully expect for Qiyana to see pro play. That's not all! Teamfight Tactics is the latest game mode to make its way to League of Legends. It looks like TFT could very well be the next permanent game mode as its beta has been absolutely crushing it on Twitch. Of course, the meat and potatoes of patch notes is always the balance changes, so let's jump on in!

POPULAR US Government blocks League of Legends for players in Iran & Syria

Due to the rising tensions with the U.S. government, League of Legends is no longer available to players in Iran and Syria.

As reported by Dot Esports, since the 22nd of June, players in Syri and Iran have reported receiving a message informing them that the game has been blocked following trade sanctions applied by the U.S. government. Developer Riot based in the U.S., seems to have no choice but to comply with the government's decision.

"Due to U.S. laws and regulations, players in your country cannot access League of Legends at this time." the message states, as shared by an Iranian player on the official LoL forums.

However, this block has not prevented all players from logging on, VPNs are enabling some players to sidestep the ban. This is the first time an online video game's availability has been included as a sanction.
