OH. MY. GOD.

Spoilers Below!!!!!!!!

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT TEAM LIQUID BEAT INVICTUS GAMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is easily the biggest upset in League of Legends history. North America's Team Liquid shocked the world by defeating the defending World Champions and not only did they win, they absolutely dominated with a 3-1 victory. I'm honestly in shock right now.

Team Liquid will now advance to the MSI Finals where they will face the winner of SKT vs G2. That will be a match you DEFINITELY don't want to miss. In case you didn't catch TL vs IG, you can watch the full games and highlights here: https://eventvods.com/lol/msi-2019?s=2&game=1

Group Stage Day 1 Results

Day 1 of the international tournament of champions was easily the most entertaining first round ever at MSI. Let's see how it all played out, spoilers below.

MSI groups kicked off with a bang as Europe's G2 absolutely destroyed Korea's champion and tournament favorite SKT. Absolute fireworks from beginning to end, G2 simply outclassed SKT at every step of the game, grabbing an early lead and continuing to grow it until the nexus fell. As good as G2 looked, they easily had the most difficult schedule for day one, as they then had to play defending World Champions Invictus Gaming. In an absolute bloodbath, IG showed how they earned their title as they dismantled G2 who had looked simply unbeatable a match before.

Luckily for the West, there's another representative that showed up on Day 1: North America's Team Liquid. TL was considered to be the weakest team of the major regions (NA, EU, KR, China), but showed today that they are ready to fight. Although they had the easiest schedule of the day, they came through and easily defeated Taiwan's Flash Wolves and Vietnam's PVB. It's a great Day 1 for the western teams, let's hope they can keep it up!

Here's the standings after day 1:

1. Team Liquid (2-0)
Invictus Gaming (2-0)
3. G2 Esports (1-1)
4. SKT T1 (1-1)
5. Phong Vu Buffalo (0-2)
Flash Wolves (0-2)

MSI Play-Ins Results

The first stage of MSI is in the books! Although many of the games and series were more competitive than expected, we ultimately got the anticipated result from the play-ins.

For Group A, Vietnam's Phong Vu Buffalo defeated 1907 Febernahce, Bombers, and Isurus to earn their right to challenge North America's Team Liquid. Team Liquid handily won this match and earned their way to the group stage. This means PVB would face the runner-up from Group B for one last chance to make it to groups.

For Group B, Russia's Vega Squadron defeated DetonatioN Gaming, MEGA Esports, and INTZ to earn their right to challenge Taiwan's Flash Wolves. Although they dropped the first game, Flash Wolves easily won the series and earned their way to the group stage. This meant that Vega would face off against PVB to compete for the final spot in the competition.

Phong Vu Buffalo seared out to a blazing hot start, securing a 2-0 lead in very dominant fashion. Shockingly, Vega managed to find their stride and fight back, winning 2 games of their own and leaving the match at a 2-2 silver scrape. Despite the momentum seemingly on Vega's side, PVB regained their composure and won a fantastic, fireworks-filled game 5. This meant that the hometown favorite Phong Vu Buffalo would secure the final spot of the group stage and send Vega Squadron home.

MSI Group A Results

The first 2 days of MSI provided some unexpectedly thrilling games. Although most people had PVB and 1907FB as the favorites, not a single team in Group A went undefeated or winless, and each match was both incredibly close and volatile. Ultimately, it came down to a tiebreaker match between Phong Vu Buffalo and 1907 Fenerbahce who both finished the group 4-2. Vientam's hometown favorite PVB managed to take the final win and earn their right to move on to the next stage.

Here are the final standings from Group A:

1. Phong Vu Buffalo (5-2)
2. 1907 Fenerbahce (4-3)
3. Bombers (2-4)
3. Isurus (2-4)

Following these results, Phong Vu Buffalo will advance to face North America's Team Liquid while the rest of Group A has been eliminated from the tournament.

Breaking: MSI schedule changed due to Vietnamese National day of mourning

Vietnam is holding a national day of mourning for the funeral of former President Le Duc Anh, who died of serious illness and old age last week. This will be held on both May 3 and May 4, so Riot has adjusted the MSI schedule so that there will no longer be any games played on those days. Now, all of the games will be played on May 1, 2, and 5. You can see the updated schedule below:

LPL Finals this Sunday!

The LPL Finals will go down this Sunday as last year's World Champions Invictus Gaming face off against upstart JD Gaming. This match has a lot of eyes on it for multiple reasons. Firstly and most obviously, people are interested to see if IG can build on their success from last year (when they won Worlds despite losing domestically) and become a true LoL powerhouse team.

JD Gaming on the other hand has been backed for more.... interesting reasons. G2 midlaner Caps had a dream a while ago that JDG would shock the world, upset everyone and become the LPL champions. JD Gaming has done an incredible job to do this well so far and make it to the finals, so people are eager to see if Caps' clairvoyant powers will help propel JDG to victory.

The winner of this final match will be the last team invited to compete against the international competition at MSI.
