The Daily Moot: PlayStation 5 Reveal
News Picks1. PlayStation 5 Reveal

The PlayStation 5 specs have finally been revealed! For processing power, the PS5 will feature 8x Zen 2 Core CPUs at 3.5GHz and a 10.28 TFLOP custom GPU with 36 CUs at 2.23GHz. While these numbers may seem a bit lower than the Xbox Series X specs, Sony explained that the PS5's custom RDNA 2 GPU is optimized and "improved in ways beyond teraflop count, such that it will offer power beyond that expected from it.” The console’s internal storage will be a custom 825GB SSD. Again, Sony has explained that the SSD has been modified to provide extremely quick launch times and to eliminate long patch installs. 825GB seems like far too little storage space for a next-gen console but unlike the Xbox Series X, additional storage can be added using off-the-shelf components. Now that both consoles have been revealed, which one are you looking forward to the most?
2. Overwatch New Hero Overwatch just revealed their upcoming new hero, Echo. While we don’t know too much about Echo, we do know that she was designed by the creator of the Omnics in order to “help the world.” Echo has technically been in the game for years, appearing in cinematics as well as on map Route 66. The launch of the new character will bring the roster total to 32, although it’s unclear whether Echo will be an attacker, defender, or support. Check out the reveal and origin story below.
3. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Free Weekend Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is having a free weekend from March 19-22. While you won’t be able to keep the game after March 22, dedicated players should be able to beat the main storyline during the 4-day stretch. The game is available for pre-loading now so that it’s ready to play when the free weekend starts tomorrow. If you end up loving the game but aren’t able to finish it, you can take advantage of a 75% discount which will be available during the free weekend. The free weekend is available to all PC, PS4, and Xbox One players.
4. Blizzard DDoS Attack Blizzard’s Battle.net had a rough day yesterday as players were unable to log into their accounts or had to sit through long queues in order to do so. For those that were lucky enough to log in, many were experiencing extremely high latency and were getting disconnected from their games. Blizzard has explained that this was the result of widespread DDoS attacks on the servers, primarily aimed at Call of Duty: Warzone. Blizzard is currently investigating the issue which was affecting players around the globe.
5. GameStop Cancels Midnight Releases GameStop has announced that they are cancelling the midnight releases for DOOM Eternal and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This is, of course, due to the Covid-19 coronavirus. GameStop has also decided to shut down all interactive gaming stations in their stores for the time being. While it may be unfortunate for those who like to collect physical copies of games, if you were hoping to be one of the first players to get their hands on DOOM Eternal or Animal Crossing: New Horizons, your best bet is to buy a digital copy.
