The Daily Moot: Pokimane Scholarship, Modern Warfare Battle Royale
1. Pokimane Esports Scholarship
Popular streamer Pokimane just donated $50,000 to the University of California, Irvine for the foundation of the Pokimane Scholarship for esports. UCI is one of the top esports colleges in the world, having won the League of Legends National Collegiate Championship in 2018. Pokimane’s donation is the first ever esports endowment for the school, which was the first public university to create an official esports program. This is a really awesome way for Pokimane to give back to the gaming community, hopefully we can see more esports personalities follow in her footsteps.
2. Modern Warfare Battle Royale It looks like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be getting a Battle Royale mode in the near future. According to some recent leaks, the new game mode will be called “Warzone” and will feature solos, duos, and trios. Much to the delight of fans, Warzone is expected to include an Apex Legends-style ping system, as well as a revive system. Vehicles will also be prominent in the new game mode, with one leaked image showing ATVs, SUVs, helicopters, cargo trucks, and tactical rovers. Of course, these are all just leaks and anything could change by the time Warzone actually comes out. Are you excited for a new Call of Duty Battle Royale?
3. Half-Life: Alyx Release Date The release date for Half-Life: Alyx has finally been confirmed! Half-Life: Alyx is easily one of the most anticipated games of the year, and it marks Valve’s first return to the fan-favorite franchise in over a decade. Earlier this year, Valve promised that the game would come out sometime in March, but amid all the recent delays fans were understandable wary of the guarantee. It turns out Valve was telling the truth; Half-Life: Alyx will launch on March 23.
4. Untitled Goose Game Wins GOTY Untitled Goose Game just won Game of the Year at the 23rd Annual DICE Awards. The passion project indie game managed to come out on top of a stacked field, which included games like Death Stranding, Control, and Outer Wilds. Untitled Goose Game seemed to come out of nowhere last year but it really took the world by storm. Players flocked to wreak havoc on a small English village, using their goose powers in clever and creative ways. While all of the nominees are great games in their own right, it’s pretty cool to see a small indie game like Untitled Goose Game win a major award like this.
