The Daily Moot (10/17/19)

1. Red Dead Redemption 2 4K PC Trailer!
This game will never cease to amaze us. The music, the scenery, and the story is second to none and will only be better when it is available on PC. As you know, that time is coming VERY soon (November 5th)! The Red Dead Redemption 2 4K PC trailer came out today and it is 100% worth the watch. Simple, elegant, intriguing.

2. Spooky Skeletons Have Invaded Sea of Thieves!

Just like most other video games, Sea of Thieves has introduced their spooky Halloween themed update. This update is a free “raid” on the Fort of the Damned which rewards players with MASSIVE rewards, including a guaranteed Chest of Legends. Check the link below to see everything new in the Sea of Thieves October update!

3. PUBG Season 5 Trailer!

PUBG Season 5 is just around the corner, coming to PC on October 23rd and to consoles on October 29th! The new content includes the ability to throw all melee weapons, a new Survivor Pass, and significant changes to the lackluster map, Miramar. Miramar will now include vending machines, a new vehicle, race tracks, stunt jump, and more which will surely make the map more exciting! You can see the trailer and all that is new in the article below.

4. Overwatch X Nintendo Switch = FAIL!

Simply put, Overwatch is way too much for the Nintendo Switch to handle. From character models not rendering, to slow, unathletic movements and gameplay, Overwatch on the Switch falls short in many aspects. The Switch runs all games (handheld or docked) at 30 fps which some would consider laughable, but 30 fps should be enough to play any game smoothly. If you are looking to play Overwatch it may be best to look elsewhere besides the Switch.

5. Anthem Halloween Event: Season of Skulls!

Anthem? Do people really still play this game? Apparently… 🤷‍♂️ Anyways! The extremely disappointing game, Anthem, has unveiled their Halloween event called Season of Skulls. During the event, players will find new spooky cosmetics as well as a bunch of new activities to explore in Anthem’s open world. All players will be rewarded with crystals which in turn can be used to buy limited-time items!

1. Riot’s League of Legends 10th Anniversary Celebration was LIT!!
League of Legends is ten years old, HOORAY! The video game powerhouse celebrated in a fashion in which only they could pull off – a massive birthday bash livestream! In the livestream, Riot revealed a handful of super exciting projects they have been working on including a new LoL Champion, a LoL Hero shooter, a new fighting game, a LoL themed anime, and much more! Check out the link below for more on the League of Legends birthday bash livestream!

2. New Gigantamax Pokémon in Sword & Shield!

Let the truth be known! Gigantamax versions of Pikachu, Charizard, Eevee, and Meowth will all be available in the highly anticipated game, Pokémon Sword & Shield. Gigantamaxing a Pokémon is a brand new way to increase the overall fighting performance in battle which gives your Pokémon an all new look (honestly kind of a weird/crazy look). You’re going to want to see what Meowth looks like, that’s for sure…

3. Google Stadia Release Date & Confirmed Games!

The Google Stadia, the cloud base gaming platform which allows you to play your favorite games anywhere, will be available to the world November 19th 2019. This is right around the corner! Now, you may be asking, what games are going to be available on this new platform? Well, we have answers for you! Check out the link below to see all of the games confirmed for the Google Stadia (some pretty sweet games are coming!).

4. Ghost Recon Breakpoint Patch 1.0.2!

The Ghost Recon Breakpoint Patch 1.0.2 was recently released across all platforms. Fans had hoped this patch would make a major difference in gameplay by reducing bugs and lackluster AI, but in reality it changed very little. The game has so much promise and is fun on the surface but when you dive a little deeper you realize it is a rushed AAA title that will get kicked to the curb once Call of Duty: Modern Warfare released on October 25th.

5. $20 Boost to Level 900 in Destiny 2!

Want to boost your Destiny 2 character to power level 900?! Well now you can for a simple $20 (or you could buy some pizza or a lot of tacos)! Destiny 2 is allowing anyone to boost their character to power level 900, but there is a catch. In order to purchase the power boost, you must have already had a character reach level 900 the good ol’ fashioned way. This micro transaction seems odd as it is a small reward for a rather large sum of money. Is this game still relevant at all? Let us know in the comments!

1. Fortnite Chapter 2
After a crazy weekend event that included almost two days of server downtime, Fortnite has officially launched Chapter 2. Overwatch’s Halloween Terror Event is live now! The event will last three weeks and you can earn unique cosmetics during each of those weeks. If you win nine games in a week, you will unlock that week’s skin. The popular PvE game mode Junkenstein’s Revenge is also back for another year.

3. Blizzard Cancels Overwatch on Switch Launch Event

Blizzard just cancelled a launch event for Overwatch on the Switch. The event was scheduled to take place this week in New York City. There was no official reason given for the cancellation but most suspect it is related to the Blizzard controversary from last week. While this event has been cancelled, BlizzCon is still scheduled for early next month.

4. Apex Legends Fight or Fright Event

The Halloween event for Apex Legends just launched today, introducing a new game mode to King’s Canyon. Shadowfall brings players to a nighttime version of King’s Canyon for a sweet invasion-type game mode. There are also 24 new premium cosmetics that you can purchase directly or unlock via Apex Packs. Fright or Flight lasts until November 5th.

5. WoW Classic Update Adds Dire Maul

The Dire Maul dungeons were originally slated to release as a part of WoW Classic’s phase 2, but they’ve just been introduced early. Dire Maul is a collection of 3 high level dungeons that offer tons of loot upgrades for max level players, including a bounty of caster gear specifically. Dire Maul also provides lucrative farming opportunities to several classes that can utilize “tribute runs” or “jump runs” to farm aspects of Dire Maul repeatedly.

Why are we upset with Blizzard? (Moot Points Episode 74)

EDIT: Blizzard announced Friday evening they were reducing the ban lengths for Blitzchung and the two casters down to 6 months.

This week's video is different from normal due to the serious nature of the topic. We hope that you still enjoy the video on this critical topic.

1. Leak Reveals “Fortnite Chapter 2”. New Map?!
A leak for Fortnite’s next season seems to suggest some pretty big changes for the next season. The image says ‘Fortnite Season 2,’ which means something massive is going to happen, right? The leaked image shows a group of 3 players looking across a river at what looks like a new map. Fortnite players, are y’all excited for a new map?

2. League of Legends asks Players and Casters to Avoid “Sensitive Topics”

The League of Legends World Championship is currently underway. Teams from around the world compete in the year’s biggest tournament as it is broadcast to fans everywhere. Given the current climate regarding Hong Kong, China, and gaming in general, Riot felt it was appropriate to ask their players and casters to avoid “sensitive topics.” This cowardly plea is to avoid upsetting The Chinese government and fan base, as League of Legends is hugely popular in China. Oh, and Riot Games is 100% owned by Tencent, a massive Chinese company. Oh, and Riot Games said there could be consequences if any players or casters discuss “sensitive topics” on air. Way to stand up for freedom, Riot!

3. Hearthstone Caster ‘ThatsAdmirable’ Steps Down

Another Hearthstone caster is stepping away from the game after Blizzard’s extreme punishment of Blitzchung, the Hong Kong based Hearthstone player who spoke out during an on-air interview. Nathan ‘ThatsAdmirable’ Zamora is following in Brian Kibler’s footsteps as he will also step down from commentating Hearthstone Grandmasters matches. Admirable says he must do what he believes is right and he says he cannot work for a company that does not uphold their ‘Every Voice Matters’ ideal.

4. Sign up for the Gwent on iOS Closed Beta Now

1. Apex Legends Screenshots Tease a New Character
Apex Legends lead designer posted some interested images on Twitter earlier today. The images show Octane’s Gauntlet during production and one of them shows what looks like a previously leaked Legend. Leaks dating back a couple months have shown a character named Revenant, but we’ve now seen Revenant in an official capacity. It also seems Revenant is responsible for the Halloween spookiness, so we may be seeing them sooner rather than later.

2. Pokemon Masters Producer Apologizes for a Boring Game

Pokemon Masters is a new mobile game that is apparently boring to play. It is so boring, in fact, that the producer of the game Yu Sasaki publically apologized for the lack of content. He addressed a list of player complaints including poor battle design and promised to address them. While there’s no road map for improvements yet, it is invigorating to see the game’s developer step up and take ownership of its mediocrity.

3. Play Local Multiplayer Games Online on Steam

Steam just revealed a new featured called Remote Play Together, which will enable you to play online co-op with friends for games that are normally restricted to local co-op. The particularly exciting aspect of this? You can now play games on Steam without owning them. All you need is a friend who owns the game and wants to play with you! That shouldn’t be too hard, right? Right? Guys? …

4. Rocket League x Stranger Things for Halloween

Well it didn’t take long to find out what kind of ‘twist’ Psyonix had planned for this year’s Rocket League Halloween event. This year’s Haunted Hallows event in Rocket League will be Stranger Things themed! This actually makes a lot of sense because Psyonix was acquired by Epic Games and Epic Games brought Stranger Things to Fortnite earlier this year.

1. Apex Legends Vaults are now Accessible
When Respawn Entertainment revealed the new map for Apex Legends we immediately noticed the vaults. The vaults on the new Apex map, World’s Edge, are packed with amazing loot. The issue, though, is the vaults are also locked. Originally players were unable to find vault keys but now the drones that patrol the new map have started dropping them. If you loot a key card from a drone, head to one of the three vaults on the map for a chance at awesome loot for your whole squad.

2. Top Hearthstone Personality Brian Kibler Steps Down from Commentary

Brian Kibler is a prominent figure in the Hearthstone community. He competed at the highest level of the game, streams it regularly, and even commentates official tournaments. In a statement, Kibler explained that he understands why Blizzard punished Blitzchung; Blitzchung used their streams to make a political statement. However, Kibler feels the nature of the punishment, which includes a one-year ban and removing all of his winnings from the past year, is extreme. In response to Blizzard’s actions regarding Blitzchung, Kibler has announced he will no longer be commentating Hearthstone Grandmasters events.

3. Epic Games Claims They Won’t Ban you for Political Statements

Earlier this week Blizzard banned a Hearthstone pro for making a political statement during a Blizzard event. Today, the CEO of Epic Games Tim Sweeney has claimed his company would NEVER ban a player for making a political statement. Even when someone pointed out Epic Games is 40% owned by massive Chinese company Tencent, Sweeney doubled down and said that doesn’t matter. Do you believe Epic Games on this?

4. Battlefield 5 to Host Several Free Weekends

Starting tomorrow, there will be a series of free weekends for you to test out Battlefield 5. Each weekend will focus on a specific game mode, which means you won’t have free reign to completely test the game out. This weekend’s free trial is for the Rush game mode. Next, you’ll get a chance to play Conquest. Finally, on October 24th you’ll have an entire weekend to test out the Grand Operations game mode.

5. The Division 2 Episode 2 Coming this Month; Raid Delayed

The Division 2’s second episode of downloadable content is coming out this month, but the raid has been delayed. The new episode, titled Pentagon: The Last Castle, will introduce new main missions, a new specialization, and a new PvP mode. The new PvP mode is Team Elimination, where teams of 4 battle against one another. The Last Castle releases on October 15th for Year 1 pass holders and October 22nd for everyone else.

*We originally posted this story with an incorrect image. The image we included is NOT the confirmed design of the PlayStation 5. It seems that Sony has not revealed the official design of the PlayStation 5 yet. We apologize for presenting inaccurate information.*

1. Sony Announces PlayStation 5 Release Date!
While we knew Sony was working on a next-gen console, and we definitely assumed it would be called the PlayStation 5, it is now confirmed! We also learned a ton of critical details about the PlayStation 5. The most important thing to know is the PlayStation 5 will release Holidays 2020. There are also some major adjustments to the controller and there will be a solid-state drive instead of a normal spinning hard drive. How exciting!

2. Blizzard Removes Hearthstone Grandmaster for Pro-Hong Kong Message

Yesterday, we told you about Blitzchung. Blitzchung won a Hearthstone tournament recently and used his winner’s interview to speak out in support of Hong Kong’s liberation. Now, Blizzard has removed Blitzchung from Hearthstone Grandmasters and they retracted his prize money. Blizzard claims Blitzchung’s statement broke tournament rules because it damaged their reputation. Now, fans of Blizzard games are protesting the company for what seems like an attack on free speech.

3. Doom Eternal Delayed until March 2020

id Software and Bethesda Softworks announced on Twitter this morning that Doom Eternal will be delayed until next March. The game was set to release this November, but apparently the developer needs more time to polish it up. Doom Eternal is a follow up to the Doom game that released in 2006. Doom Eternal will launch on Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC. It will then become available on the Nintendo Switch at a later date.

4. The NHS opens a Gaming Addiction Clinic

The NHS, a British health organization, announced today they will open a clinic to treat people aged 13 to 25 for video game addiction. As video games are growing in popularity, is natural that society adapts around it. While many of us have probably had to explain “no I am not addicted to video games because I played for a few hours,” hopefully we can also understand that this is a real problem people deal with. It is nice to see British public health adapting to modern times. Hopefully the rest of the world can follow suit if the program demonstrates some success.

The rest of phase 2 will be “just around the corner” and Blizzard will provide a more solid date “as soon as [they] have it.”

3. Hearthstone Player Calls for Hong Kong Liberation During Stream

A Hong Kong native Hearthstone player named Blitzchung called for his city’s liberation during an official Taiwanese Hearthstone stream this past weekend. The player is wearing a gas mask during the stream. The clip of the moment has been taken down from the official Taiwanese Hearthstone channel. You can also see the event’s casters hiding behind their desks to avoid being associated with the protest.

4. PlayStation 4 Software Update 7.00 Coming this Week

PlayStation 4’s next big software update is releasing this week. The update looks to improve several key social aspects of gaming on the PS4. The maximum party size is increasing from 8 to 16. There will also be improved connectivity and audio quality, plus the ability to transcribe chat to text. You will also now be able to remotely play games on your PS4 via your Android smartphone or tablet, which is sweet. PlayStation users, are y’all stoked or croaked?

5. Rocket League’s Halloween Update Coming next Week

For the third year in a row, the Haunted Hallows event will be coming to Rocket League. Psyonix says this year’s event will be different from past Halloween events. When the October update launches next week it will also introduce a few highly desired features to Rocket League. 1. Call of Duty: Mobile Hits 20 Million Downloads
Call of Duty: Mobile is a free version of the popular first-person shooter franchise, available now on iOS and Android. Although the game just released this week, 20 million players have downloaded it already. CoD: Mobile uses maps, modes, weapons, and characters from across the Call of Duty franchise. The mobile game is developed by Tencent, the massive Chinese gaming company that developed PUBG Mobile plus figuratively millions of other successful mobile games, so it is not surprising to see it succeed.

2. Overwatch Director Says Super Smash can have Anyone

Overwatch is finally releasing on the Nintendo Switch later this month. With a big release on the Switch comes some serious questions like “what took so long?” and “when will one of your characters be in a Nintendo game?” We may never get an answer to the first question, but the second question sounds like it should be more about “which character” instead of “when?” Jeff Kaplan, Overwatch’s director, said Nintendo can have “whatever character [they] want.” Tracer is the character most people are discussing. What Overwatch hero do you think would be the best fit for Super Smash Bros?

3. The Division 2 Hidden Boss Discovered

It took over two months before players found a hidden boss in The Division 2, and that only happened after developers dropped hints. The boss’s name is ‘The Agony’ and he was added back in July. The Agony is hiding inside the Manning National Zoo. There a couple steps you need to take inside the zoo to be able to fight The Agony, but by now there are several video guides that will help you out.

4. New Death Stranding Trailer

With each trailer for Death Stranding we get more clarity about the game. Today’s trailer is short yet informative. Death Stranding is also a shining example of the value hiring real acting talent for your game. This trailer alone is bolstered by the weight of Norman Reedus’ voice acting. The trailer is only a minute long and it is awesome so just watch it, eh?

1. Apex Legends Season 3 is PACKED with new stuff!

We're a day late, but hopefully we're not a dollar short. Apex Legends Season 3 has a new map, a new Legend, a new gun, new items plus TONS of weapon tweaks, Legend balances, and more! Let us get you caught up to speed.

2. Fortnite Season 10 is Extended One Week

Epic Games has just announced they are extending Season 10 by one week. Instead of ending on October 6th, the Season will now end on October 13th. If we learned Season 10 would be an extra week back when the mechs were still an issue we may be upset, but now that the mechs are gone and Batman is here instead… yeah, another week of this seems alright. There will also be some Overtime Missions coming soon so you can catch up on XP and your battle pass.

3. Rocket League Introduces Blueprints, Replacing Lootboxes

Earlier this year Rocket League announced the end of the game’s loot crate and key model. This news came shortly after the company was acquired by Epic Games and the two things may be related. Yesterday, Psyonix revealed the new Blueprint system that will be replacing lootboxes. After a game, players will have chance to unlock a Blueprint for a specific cosmetic. Then, players can choose to spend a new currency (bought with real money) to craft that specific cosmetic the Blueprint is for. This sort of 1-to-1 system enables players to spend money and know what they’re getting, which is always nice.

4. PS4 Cross-Play Leaves Beta

For the past year or so, Sony has been experimenting with cross-play functionality for PlayStation 4 games. Previously, Sony claimed cross-play was too difficult. However, due to rising demands for cross-play functionality (mostly for Fortnite) Sony relented. Some games were able to utilize cross-play during the beta stage, but now the feature will be available to all PlayStation 4 developers. Expect many more games to have cross-play functionality in the future because Sony was the main roadblock in the equation. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will probably be the first game to utilize full cross-play at launch.

5. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey 5-Week Event Starts Today

A 5-week event starts today in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey to celebrate the game’s anniversary. There will be a different returning epic mercenary or ship for you to take down every day. During the next few weeks there will also be the game’s final title update, although it will be mostly focused on bug fixes. This will wrap up new content for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. After this all we have left is waiting for the next Assassin’s Creed game.

2. Pokemon Sword and Shield will Include Autosaving

For the first time, a core Pokemon game will include an autosaving feature. The autosave feature in Sword and Shield will apparently be always running, so you can play the game with no fear of losing your progress. Dedicated fans of the series may wish to turn off the autosave feature, which they will be able to do. Pokemon Sword and Shield release on the Nintendo Switch on November 15th.

3. Destiny Servers Down for Emergency Maintenance

Destiny 2 launched the Shadowkeep expansion and New Light today. The Shadowkeep expansion marks a huge transition for Bungie, as they’re moving their game from Battle.net to Steam on PC. This expansion also marks the introduction of New Light, which is a new free to play way to play the base Destiny 2 game. All of this combined to create a massive surge of players for Destiny 2, which has apparently crashed their servers. Bungie is continuing to update about the emergency maintenance on their Twitter.

4. BlizzCon 2019 Virtual Tickets are On Sale

BlizzCon is Blizzard’s biggest event of the year. Fans of Blizzard games gather together for a crazy weekend full of events, game news, and more. Even fans that cannot make it to the actual convention can participate through purchasing a Virtual Ticket, which is on sale now. 1. San Francisco Shock win the Overwatch League Grand Finals
The Overwatch League 2019 Grand Finals took place this weekend in Philadelphia. The San Francisco Shock smoked the Vancouver Titans to become this season’s champion. The recently enacted 2-2-2 meta led to some diverse team compositions in the final matches. Next season, the Overwatch League will look rather different as teams will be playing home (and away) matches all around the world.

2. Destiny 2 Down for Maintenance, Will be Back Tomorrow

A tremendous transition is underway for Bungie and fans of the Destiny franchise. Tomorrow marks two big changes for Destiny 2: There is a massive patch launching called Shadowkeep AND the game is moving from Battle.net to Steam on PC. Destiny servers will be offline all day today, but when they come back tomorrow at 10 am PST players will be able to play the new update.

3. New ‘Brain Age’ Game Coming to Nintendo Switch

Brain Age is a game from 2005 that challenged players with quick puzzles, like a math problem, to judge the age of their brain. The game released on the Nintendo DS and was wildly popular, both in Japan and the West. Now, Brain Age is coming back. There will be a new Brain Age game, featuring the same Dr. Kawashima. You’ll even be able to track your scores, and those of your friends, via an associated mobile app. The new Brain Age releases for Nintendo Switch in Japan on December 27th, and there is no timeline yet for an international release.

4. Minecraft’s Upcoming Nether Update

The next major update to come to Minecraft will focus on improve the Nether region. The update will ad “new biomes, mobs, structures, blocks, and visual effects” to improve the Nether’s “unique and scary atmosphere.” This info was revealed at MINECON this past weekend, where we also learned more about the Piglin race coming to the game and the Character Creator.

1. This Week's Lesson in Not Pre-Ordering! (Moot Points Episode 72)

Happy Friday, friends. In our video this week we talk about how Modern Warfare's Survival Mode Spec Ops missions will be exclusive to PS4 for a year and why that's NOT okay. There's also a ton of sweet news about Fortnite so it's not a completely depressing video, we promise!

2. New Apex Legends Map Coming October 1st!

This is not a drill! Repeat, THIS IS NOT A DRILL! There’s going to be a brand new Apex Legends map when Season 3 releases on October 1st. The map is called World’s Edge. World’s Edge is “where molten heat and chemical ice collide” and you can see it in the Season 3 Launch Trailer. The cinematic also shows Crypto interacting with some of the other Legends and is certainly worth watching.

3. Dauntless Launches out of Early Access

Yesterday Dauntless finally launched out of Early Access. The game’s 1.0 patch brings several sweet updates to Dauntless. There’s a new Season, a new Hunt Pass, a new weapon, and a new Dire Behemoth. There’s a new Bounty System to progress your Hunt Pass that should enable you to level it up by completing tasks you’re interested in. There’s honestly a ton more in the game’s 1.0, so just check out the link below, eh?

4. Naughty Dog Updates Us on Last of Us 2 Multiplayer

Yesterday we discovered The Last of Us Part 2 will be entirely single player. Some people, perhaps those who don’t own a PS4, may have been unaware that the original The Last of Us even had a multiplayer mode. It was called Factions and it was actually well liked. Well, it turns out the developers really liked Factions too. So much so, in fact, that they expanded upon it for the sequel to a point where they felt it would take away from the single player mode. Naughty Dog posted on Twitter yesterday evening to confirm they will *eventually* be releasing a new The Last of Us multiplayer experience, just not shipped alongside the upcoming game.

5. Borderlands 3 Patch Nerfs KillaVolt

KillaVolt is one of the earlier bosses in Borderlands 3 and he has been rather miserable to battle against. Gearbox released a patch yesterday that will make the KIllaVolt fight much more manageable for players. The patch also introduces some quality of life adjustments and bug fixes. Check out the patch notes via the link below.

6. DreamHack Announces TWO Fortnite Tournaments

This makes sense timing wise because Season 10 only has a few weeks remaining and the mechs are certainly not going to carry over into Season 11. Apparently, we have The Visitor to thank for disabling the mechs. You may remember The Visitor from Season 4, when he launched that rocket.

2. Ninja Sang on ‘The Masked Singer’ Last Night

If you’re like us, you’ve definitely never heard of The Masked Singer. It is seemingly an American TV show where celebrities wear costumes and sing. Judges (and the audience) then are supposed to guess who the singer is. Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins was one of the celebrities eliminated in last night’s show. It’s hard to say for sure, but it feels like it is pretty obvious that’s Ninja singing under the mask. What do y’all think?

3. The Last of Us Part 2 will be Purely Single Player

The Last of Us Part 2 will not have any multiplayer features according to Naughty Dog’s lead game designer Emilia Schatz. There were a handful of multiplayer modes in the first Last of Us and they were even received in a generally positive light, but none of that will be in The Last of Us Part 2. Despite that, the explanation is simple. Schatz said “we’re focusing on a single-player experience, so we’re just making a single-player game.” Makes sense to us.

4. New Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Trailer

A new trailer for the upcoming single player game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order released this morning. The trailer gives us a much better idea of the general storyline, which focuses on a padawan on the run name Cal. In the trailer, Cal is fleeing from a Galactic Inquisitor when he is inexplicably rescued by another Jedi on the run. Check out the awesome new trailer in the article below. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order releases on PS4, Xbox One, and Windows PC on November 15th.

1. Modern Warfare’s Survival Mode Spec Ops will be PS4 Exclusive for a Year
You may remember Special Operations from previous Call of Duty games. Spec Ops, as they’re affectionately called, are short missions you can complete alone or with your friends. There are several type of Spec Ops missions, but based on our research (we asked Dylan) the Survival Mode Spec Ops missions are the most fun BY FAR. Too bad Activision just revealed that Survival Mode Spec Ops missions will be exclusively to PS4 FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR after release. Remember you can cancel your pre-orders!

2. Teamfight Tactics Competitive Play Coming Soon

Riot Games just announced they will be officially supporting a competitive scene for Teamfight Tactics starting next year. Riot did not provide details about the upcoming competitive scene’s structure, but they shared some numbers to demonstrate TFT’s popularity. For example, apparently 33 million people play Teamfight Tactics each month.

3. Fortnite v10.40 Introduces The Combine

Fortnite’s latest patch is out and it brings some new things to the game. The coolest thing in the new patch has to be The Combine, a new playlist for you to test your shooting and movement skills. Reach the end of the course as fast as possible while still hitting all your targets and you just might earn a spot on the leaderboard. There’s also a new rift zone, Starry Suburbs, and the Bouncer has been unvaulted. Have fun, Fortnite fans!

4. Broomstick League is a Quidditch Game without Harry Potter

So uh, we’re not sure if this is illegal or what, but someone just revealed a new game called Broomstick League that reminds us of something. The developer is Blue Isle and they released an announcement trailer this morning. Although there’s no Hogwarts scenery, this is pretty clearly a quidditch game. Check out the trailer to see if you’re interested in what is effectively flying Rocket League. Broomstick League be in Steam Early Access “soon”.

1. Fortnite Adds Skill Based Matchmaking (+Batman)!

2. Fortnite Introduces Skill Based Matchmaking

Epic Games announced a massive change to Fortnite this morning that is sure to be controversial. Starting today, Fortnite’s battle royale core game modes will use skill-based matchmaking to create more evenly matched lobbies. Starting next season, there will even be ACTUAL Bots in the game. As players progress in skill, they will have fewer Bots in their matches. There also will never be Bots in competitive playlists. PLEASE, Fortnite fans, what do y’all think of this?

3. WB Games Montreal Teases a New Batman Game

As you may have heard, this week is Batman’s 80th birthday. Epic Games is celebrating with an in-game event and some sweet Batman cosmetics, but WB Games is potentially going to blow them out of the water with a new game announcement this week. Specifically, we expect WB Games to announce a new Batman game during Sony’s State of Play event tomorrow afternoon. WB Games made Arkham Orginis which is widely accepted as a great Batman game, just nowhere near as great as Arkham Asylum and Arkham City.

The Surge 2 launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Monday and the game’s launch trailer just came out. The Surge 2 is a melee-focused Action-RPG in a post-apocalyptic setting. Honestly? 4. John Wick Hex will Release on October 8th

John Wick Hex is a unique strategy game featuring John Wick from the popular movie series. The gameplay in John Wick Hex involves difficult action sequences. Check out the new trailer for the game, which came out today, to get a better sense of what to expect from John Wick Hex.

5. Untitled Goose Game Launch Trailer

Untitled Goose Game is a game where you play as a goose assassin and attempt to ruin the lives of those around you. It launched on the Nintendo Switch today and the launch trailer is an absolute delight. Our personal favorite moment is when the Goose unties a kid’s shoe, then steals the toy the kid sets down when he goes to tie his shoe, THEN takes the kid’s glasses after he falls over. Yeah, this is our kind of game.

3. Twitch Acquires the Internet Gaming Database

The Internet Gaming Database (IGDB) is very similar to the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) that you may be more familiar with. The IGDB is a directory of information about games like genre, ratings, and more. Now that Twitch has acquired the IGDB they will be applying it to their own game directory. Previously, browsing games on Twitch has been less than perfect at best. Maybe it will be better soon?

4. Some Toxic Dota 2 Players Been Banned for 19 Years

Valve is re-focusing their Dota 2 efforts on competitive integrity and ranked matchmaking quality, which is bad news for cheaters. Yesterday, a massive wave of bans hit players that had been regularly reported by other players. Many of these banned users have been banned for at least 19 years. Valve also had this to say in their description of the ban wave: “Users that reach this low level of behavior in the game are too big of a tax on the rest of the community and are not wanted." You have to love when companies shoot straight.

Expect to hear more information soon because Batman Day is September 21st.

5. Meet Apex Legends’ Crypto In-Game

Well, that’s changed now because Crypto is actually in-game. You can see Crypto briefly if you visit Singh Labs. You’ll see him working hard before he runs off.

1. There may “Need” to be a Death Stranding Sequel
Kojima, of Kojima Productions, has made it clear that he thinks of Death Stranding as an entirely new gaming genre. The “strand” genre is about connections, and Kojima thinks a second or even third Death Stranding game may be necessary to cement the genre moving forward. Even though Death Stranding isn’t even out yet, doesn’t a sequel sound like an exciting possibility? Death Stranding releases on November 8th for PS4.

2. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 adds Dream Events

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 (some title, eh?) will mostly focus on realistic minigames based on Olympic sports. The three Dream Events revealed so far are Dream Shooting, Dream Karate, and Dream Racing. You can see what they look like in trailer below. This game releases on November 5th for the Nintendo Switch.

3. Dragon Quest 1,2, and 3 Coming to Nintendo Switch

The classic Dragon Quest trilogy will be available in the Nintendo Switch eShop starting on September 27th. These ports to the Switch use graphics from previously-released mobile ports so they will be at least slightly less pixelated than the original versions of the games. Dragon Quest 1 will cost $4.99, 2 will cost $6.49, and 3 will cost $12.49.

4. GameStop Store Redesign Leaks

GameStop has been floundering recently, with sales dropping and some stores laying off employees. Last month, GameStop announced a plan called GameStop Reboot. The goal is, shockingly, to improve business. Well, apparently part of that plan is remodeled stores because a video just leaked showing off a new and improved GameStop in Pryor, Oklahoma. Check out the video for yourself in the article below to see the new GameStop. Also note that not all GameStops that are remodeled will look exactly like this, as some will focus on other gaming elements.

3. Remnant: From the Ashes Introduces Adventure Mode

A new Adventure Mode option is now available in Remnant: From the Ashes. Adventure Mode allows you to re-roll specific individual worlds. You and your party can adventure through whichever worlds you’d like without it affecting your main campaign. Any loot or traits gained in Adventure Mode will be kept by your character, so the mode isn’t a complete toss. There’s a ton more in today’s patch; check out the patch notes below if you’re interested.

4. Modern Warfare may have Lootboxes?

This weekend be nothing but excitement for Call of Duty fans, who are finally getting a chance to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. During the beta, some players noticed a spot in the post-match report that had the word lootbox written across it. There has been no mention of lootboxes for Modern Warfare yet. Is Activision planning on sneaking microtransactions into Modern Warfare after the game launches? Call of Duty fans are especially hesitant about microtransactions because Black Ops 4’s setup was mediocre at best and obviously exploitative at worst.

1. Overwatch is Coming to the Switch! (Moot Points Episode 69)

2. Cube World Rises from the Ashes, Releasing on Steam Soon

Cube World is a game that looks like Minecraft, but instead of a sandbox game it is a procedurally generated fantasy action-RPG. The Cube World developer launched his game into alpha in 2013, updated it for about a year, and then vanished. Now, seemingly out of nowhere, the game’s creator announced Cube World is coming to Steam before the end of the year. You can read about the game on it’s Steam page already, plus you can watch 16 minutes of gameplay.

3. Death Stranding will have ‘Very Easy Mode’ for Movie Fans

Alright that may sound weird but it is totally awesome. Death Stranding, the highly anticipated upcoming action game that stars several famous actors like Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, and Léa Seydoux will have a VERY Easy difficulty. The game’s creator Hideo Kojima explained this is for people who want to experience the story of Death Stranding but don’t traditionally play video games. There are still Normal and Hard Mode for those of us who prefer some difficulty, so this is all upside and a great way to bring more people into gaming in general. Death Stranding releases on November 8th for PlayStation 4.

4. Sony Unveils the ‘Only On PlayStation Collection’

The Only On PlayStation Collection is a celebration of 10 iconic PlayStation exclusives. From what we can tell, the main (or only?) thing here is new box arts for all 10 games. The 10 chosen games are: Bloodborne, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last Guardian, The Last of Us, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Ratchet and Clank, Shadow of the Collosus, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and Wipeout: Omega Collection. The new box arts are completely gorgeous and you should definitely click the link below to see them.

5. “Pride and Accomplishment” Sets a Guinness World Record

In 2017 we were all excited for Star Wars Battlefront 2. However, almost immediately after the game came out there was international outrage at the game’s microtransaction model. In response to a complaint, the EA reddit account posted a now famous response including the now famous “the intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.” This reddit comment now officially holds the Guinness World Record for most-downvoted comment on Reddit. Congrats EA, you finally found something to be the best at.

3. Steam’s New Library Coming this Month

We’ve never used Steam for it’s good looks or smooth functionality. We use Steam because, until very recently, it was the only real way to play most games on your PC. Well, perhaps now because there are some competing sharks in the proverbial waters, Valve has decided to completely overhaul Steam’s library. Now it looks like a modern program instead of something from 1999. This library update launches on September 17th, but you can see some screenshots of it in the article below.

2. Epic Reverts Turbo Build Nerfs

After community backlash, Epic has reverted nerfs to Turbo Building that were in Fortnite patch v10.20. The original changes increased the delay between placing structures from 0.05 seconds to 0.15 seconds. This was intended to level the playing field between low ping and high ping players, but it was too much. Now, to accomplish that same goal, Epic is experimenting with else: when two players attempt to place a build in the same spot at the same time, the game will randomly decide which player gets to place their build.

3. Blizzard is Increasing WoW Classic Server Capacity

Blizzard posted on the World of Warcraft Classic forums today to let players know they’re going to increase server capacities. Players have been stuck in lengthy login queues when they try to play WoW Classic. While this is certainly reminiscent of the original WoW experience, it is less than ideal for a rabid playerbase that just wants to play. Blizzard said they are increasing server capacity “substantially” to reduce queue times.

There is also one big final update coming to the original Shovel Knight game, which will introduce both a new campaign and a new multiplayer fighting mode. Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins announced on Twitter yesterday a new sponsorship deal he just signed with Adidas. 3. Gamestop Leak ‘Confirms’ Crypto is Apex Legends’ Next Legend

A hacker character potentially named Crypto has been a contender for the next Apex Legends character, but a recent leak from a Gamestop conference may have finally confirmed his eventual addition to the game. The Charge Rifle obviously sounds like an energy weapon, but we’ll have to wait and see. See the images for yourself in the article below.

3. DICE Cancels Battlefield 5’s Competitive 5v5 Mode

DICE had been planning to introduce a competitive 5v5 game mode to Battlefield 5 for a while, but they’ve just announced the game mode is no longer coming. While DICE wants to provide a competitive experience for Battlefield 5 players, the 5v5 game mode apparently took too much development time away from other features DICE wants to prioritize. Apparently (as always) DICE promises to be more transparent with what they’re working on moving forward.

4. Death Stranding Exclusive Gamescom Trailer Reveals Game’s Plot

Those who were fortunate enough to attend Gamescom this week finally know what Death Stranding is all about. While we, the general public, can’t see the behind-closed-doors trailer just yet, we can at least read about what is in it. Norman Reedus’ character is tasked with reconnecting fractured cities across what used to be the United States. That’s at least the main point, but there’s obviously going to be a lot more to this game. Death Stranding releases on November 8th for PS4.

This week’s Fortnite update didn’t remove the mechs, but it may have added a way to fight them. The Junk Rift is a new Epic rarity throwable item. The Junk Rift “breaks on contact and spawns a large object in the sky that plummets to the ground.” Direct hits will deal 200 damage, plus there will be a 100 damage shockwave outward once the piece of junk hits the ground. Most importantly, “both hits immediately destroy vehicles and destructible objects on impact.” Check out the trailer (and the rest of the patch notes) right here.

1. Apex Legends? More like ANGRYpex Legends!

The Iron Crown Collection event was supposed to be focused on the solo mode, with new cosmetics being an extra bonus for those who are into that kind of thing. Instead...well, just watch.

2. CoD: Modern Warfare ‘Gunfight’ Alpha on PS4 this Weekend

This weekend only, PlayStation 4 players can play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for free. The alpha test only includes the new 2v2 Gunfight game mode and five different maps, but it still is a sweet opportunity. No pre-ordering is necessary; in fact, you don’t even need to have PS Plus either! The alpha test starts on Friday and ends on Sunday. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare releases October 25th.

3. Dead by Daylight x Stranger Things Crossover

The Dead by Daylight YouTube channel posted a trailer for an upcoming Stranger Things event. The new Chapter will introduce a new Killer, two new Survivors, and a new map. The new killer is obviously the Demogorgon and the new Survivors are Steve Harrington and Nancy Wheeler. The new map is the Underground Complex. The Stranger Things Chapter launches on both PC and consoles in September.

4. Magic: the Gathering Arena Coming to Epic Games Store

MTGA is a free digital way to play Magic that is currently available for download on the game’s website. Soon, though, MTGA will also be available on the Epic Games Store. We say also because they won’t be a complete exclusive, as you’ll still be able to download the game through Magic’s website if you’d like. Also, this announcement finally confirmed they will be releasing the game for Mac computers in next few months.

5. PUBG Introducing Console Cross-Play

Soon, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players will be able to play PUBG together. PUBG Corp. revealed this news during Microsoft’s pre-Gamescom show Inside Xbox. The developers did not mention whether they would ever extend this to include PC players as well, but with the potential skill gap between PC and console for a mechanically intensive game like PUBG it may never happen. This feature should come to live servers in early October.

1. Pokemon Reveals a Ranked Mode for Sword and Shield!
Happy Friday Mooties! In this week's episode of Moot Points we talk about the new Pokemon Ranked Mode, the new TFT Patch, and Dota 2's The International 2019. Let's dive in!

2. Epic Games Addresses Concerns About the B.R.U.T.E.

By now we’ve all heard complaints about the B.R.U.T.E., the new mech introduced to Fortnite with Season X. Many players feel the B.R.U.T.E. is too strong and hinders competitive integrity, but Epic doesn’t feel the same way. In a blog post shared this morning, Epic Games defended the introduction of the mech by saying it provides gives some players a chance to get a few kills or even a win. Apparently, there are on average only 5 or 6 kills per game with a B.R.U.T.E., meaning it is not too strong. Thoughts?

3. Tencent’s New Overwatch-esque Mobile Game

Tencent, a giant Chinese game publisher, has just released Ace Force into open beta. Ace Force is a team hero shooter, just like Overwatch, with a cartoon-ish art style. There’s only so much design space when trying to create a roster of a few dozen unique characters, so it’s no surprise to see several things that remind us Overwatch. From the trailer alone, we see some rocket barrages, some sniping, and someone who looks to be piloting a mech. Ace Force is available for both Android and iOS phones.

4. Bungie is Making Changes to Destiny 2’s PvP

Since splitting from Blizzard-Activision earlier this year, Bungie is taking stock of all aspects of Destiny 2. In a blog post this morning, franchise director Luke Smith outlined several changes Bungie will make to the game’s Player vs Player systems in the near future. The Quickplay and Competitive playlists will be replaced by more specific ones. Some maps will be cycled out of the map rotation and replaced by original maps like Widow’s Court and Twilight Gap. Finally, there’s a slight tease that Trials may even come back in the future, which we think Destiny fans would love.

1. The International 2019 Begins, Prize Pool at $33 Million
Dota 2’s biggest tournament of the year is officially under way. The International is famous for crowdsourcing its prize pool; Valve offers in-game cosmetics for Dota players to buy to support the tournament. This year’s prize pool just hit $33 million, making it the largest esports prize pool ever. Each player on the winning team will now take home at least $3 million dollars.

2. Epic Apologizes for Selling a New Dog

Epic Games has apologized for releasing Gunner, a new pet dog for Fortnite that looked too similar to Bonesy. Bonesy is from a previous Battle Pass and was supposed to be an exclusive reward. Epic is refunding everyone who purchased Gunner, plus an additional 200 V-bucks. If you have already refunded Gunner, you’ll also get the extra V-bucks plus you’ll get a Refund Token that can be used on eligible items purchased in the last 30 days.

3. Apex Legends Toys Coming Soon

Some cool Apex Legends toys will be coming out by the end of this year. There will be two types of Apex Legends toys. The larger figures are 9 inches tall and use the actual game’s 3D models so they’re accurate to the game. The smaller vinyl figures, on the other hand, are a bit more stylized but they still look sweet. As far as prices, the big figures are $100 and the smaller ones are only $30.

4. Future of Magic: the Gathering Esports

Wizards of the Coast announced yesterday sweeping changes to the Organized Play aspect of Magic: the Gathering. Magic started as a tabletop card game over 25 years ago, but within the last year the game has found success digitally as well. This means the company must reimagine and redefine how players can compete in events and tournaments in their aspirations to become pro. You can read about all the changes below.

5. Echo Fox is Officially Leaving the LCS

Echo Fox will not be in the 2020 League of Legends LCS after a proposed sale of the team fell through this morning. Now, Riot Games will take over the process of selling the team’s slot in their league. Echo Fox is being pushed out of the LCS because of a public dispute between Rick Fox and a shareholder named Amit Raizada after Raizada used a racist slur in a conversation with former CEO Jace Hall. Raizada has refused to relinquish his shares in the team and Riot Games as a result has been forced to remove Echo Fox from the LCS.

1. Retail Row is Back in Business!
The first big update to Fortnite Season X brought back Retail Row, but it didn’t come alone. The Fiends from last year’s Halloween event are here to party as well. Fiends won’t spawn anywhere but Retail Row, nor can they leave the area. The other big change in the new update is another reduction to BRUTE spawn rates.

2. DreamHack Anaheim Announced for February 2020

Dreamhack just announced their first event ever to take place on the US West Coast. Dreamhack Anaheim will take place from February 21-23, 2020 at the Anaheim Convention Center. The event, like all Dreamhack events, will feature professional tournaments across several titles. There will also be cosplay contests, musical performances, and activities for all attendees.

3. Epic Games Annoys Fortnite Players with a Dog

If you were to look at the Fortnite item shop today you may see a familiar face. Season 6 introduced wearable pets to Fortnite via the battle pass. Bonesy, an adorable dog with a scarf and a smile, was one of these pets. There’s now a new dog, called Gunner, in the item shop who looks almost identical to Bonesy. Some players are annoyed that Epic is selling what was effectively an exclusive item, others are annoyed there are now 2 items that basically indistinguishable, and finally some players are probably stoked because they missed out on their chance to buy Bonesy.

4. No Man’s Sky’s BEYOND Update is Here

BEYOND is an update for No Man’s Sky that is large enough to justify the use of capitalization. We’ve talked about it before, but this update is MASSIVE. Skimming the patch notes we see that new features include: VR Support, increased multiplayer party size, improved missions and tutorials, improved interactions between players, a new social hub, (more) new missions, new technology trees, gameplay balances, … oh my goodness the list goes on and on. Read the full patch notes at the link below.

5. Artwork for Cancelled Batman Game Leaks

A heap of concept art has leaked on 4chan that looks to be from a cancelled Damian Wayne Batman game. Right off the rip we should clarify this leak could be fake, however the images are pretty convincing. The game was supposed to be a sequel to Arkham Knight, which released in 2013. Based on the concept art, the game was to be set in a darker, rundown version of Gotham City. Instead of this game, rumors suggest Rocksteady is developing a ‘superhero creation game.’

1. Overwatch Role Queue is now Live!
Rejoice (or despair) Overwatch fans! Role Queue is now available on live servers. Sigma also comes to the game today, so there’s tons of new goodies to explore. Today’s patch also tweaks tons of heroes as the game is due to change dramatically. Notably, Brigitte is now much more of a healer than she is a healer/tank hybrid. What do you think about Role Queue?

2. Teamfight Tactics Patch 9.16 Notes

The first major patch comes to Teamfight Tactics tomorrow, introducing FOUR new champions and one new Origin. All of the new champions are Hextech, which is a rather unique origin; when you have multiple Hextech units you will throw a bomb at an enemy equipped with an item. The bomb then detonates and disables all enemy items in a small radius for 8 seconds. There are also TONS of changes to champions, matchmaking, and more so check out the full patch notes below! Also, check out the Teamfight Tactics lounge here on Moot!

3. Apex Legends Iron Crown Collection Event Starts Today

The Iron Crown Collection event brings a new solos mode and much more to Apex Legends. There is a new special currency called Crowns that will be used to unlock event specific items. There are also tons of new cosmetics including several incredibly sweet skins. There is even a new Heirloom item called Raven’s Bite for Bloodhound. You can unlock Bloodhound’s Heirloom set via direct purchase once you have obtained all 24 Iron Crown Collection Event Pack items, whatever that exactly means.

4. Destiny 2 Looks to Change their Microtransactions

Bungie recently split from Blizzard-Activision and as a result the development studio is relooking at many of Destiny 2’s systems. A blog post today from the Destiny franchise director explored microtransactions in the game and how Bungie looks to improve them moving forward. In the future, Bungie hopes to split cosmetics from gameplay as much as possible. Playing and grinding the game will reward you with weapons, power, mods, perks, stats, titles, and more. Spending money is how you’ll get ornaments, shaders, ships, emotes, and more. Seems like a good plan, Bungie.

1. Ninja VS Twitch!

Happy Monday! This weekend was a crazy one for Ninja: Twitch used his channel to promote other streamers, meanwhile he was busy giving out his phone number to all of his millions of fans! We also look at everything going on on Moot this week.

2. Minecraft’s Graphics Overhaul is Cancelled

Back at E3 2017, Mojang announced the Super Duper Graphics Pack for Minecraft. The Super Duper Graphics Pack was intended to bring stunning improvements to Minecraft’s graphics, but after two years of development Mojang has announced they’re cancelling the project. Apparently, the studio has not been happy with how the updated graphics have been performing across the different platforms Minecraft is on.

3. Fortnite World Champ Gets Swatted During a Livestream

The Fortnite Solos World Champion ‘Bugha’ got swatted during a livestream this weekend. Luckily nobody was hurt. Swatting is the act of calling the police to someone else’s house. It is extremely dangerous and reckless, as it wastes resources plus puts lives in danger. A 2017 swatting ended with the death of an innocent party plus a 20-year prison sentence for the person responsible. People, don’t do this.

4. Epic Reduces Mech Spawn Rates; Is it Enough?

This weekend Epic reduced spawn rates for the BRUTE mechs, but is it enough? It seems that the core of the issue for most players in the strength of the BRUTE, not the frequency at which it spawns. Fortnite’s Championship Series start next week and it looks like the BRUTE will be available in those incredibly important matches.

5. Ubisoft Removes DLC Content from The Division 2

Last month Ubisoft introduced Expeditions to The Division 2. The DLC missions were designed to be a rotating experience, except now they’re rotating out of existence. Something in Ubisoft’s plan didn’t come together fully, and they said they’re removing the Expeditions until they can bring them back with more replayability. In theory that sounds nice, but it’s a mega bummer for people who haven’t got a chance to clear the Expeditions yet because there’s an exotic rifle called The Diamondback that is rewarded to all players who complete the missions.

1. Rocket League Crates Are Going Away! Are Loot Boxes DOOMED?! (Moot Points Episode 65)

2. Discord Reveals ‘Go Live’ Feature

Discord has just revealed a new feature called ‘Go Live’ that will enable you to stream to up 10 friends. While that sounds laughable given the larger context of the Twitch vs Mixer debate where streamers like Ninja are moving to new platforms for millions of dollars and thousands of viewers, this is actually kind of a big deal. Most streamers have incredibly small audiences comprised of mostly friends. In fact, this is closer to screensharing than it is even to streaming. The feature launches next week.

3. ESPN Delays Airing Apex Legends Tournament

After the tragic events that occurred in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio this past weekend ESPN has decided to delay airing the X-Games Apex Legends tournament. The tournament also took place last weekend and ESPN was planning on airing highlights from the X Games event. Now, that hour long special won’t air on television until October 6th. You can still watch the entire event on ESPN 3 or the ESPN esports YouTube channel.

4. No Man’s Sky Will Support 32 Player Co-Op

We’ve told you BEYOND will be a massive update to No Man’s Sky, but we’re still learning the exact scope of massiveness involved. Sean Murray, the head of Hello Games, has revealed more information about next week’s update including the fact that you can play with up to 31 friends! BEYOND is introducing The Nexus, a massive social hub to connect with other players. There will also be comprehensive VR support and tons of new or expanded game mechanics. BEYOND will be free to all No Man’s Sky players on August 14th.

5. Epic Games Pledges Loot Box Transparency Across All Games

Earlier this year, Epic Games turned Loot Llamas in Fortnite Save The World into X-Ray Llamas that reveal all of their contents before the point of purchase. Earlier this week, Epic and Psyonix announced they were removing crates from Rocket League. Earlier this day, Epic Games announced they will continue to be transparent across all titles in the future. This matches statements shared by other companies like Microsoft, EA, and Ubisoft who have all also promised to be transparent with loot box odds.

1. Borderlands 3: FL4K Character Trailer
Borderlands has revealed another new character from the upcoming game FL4K is an AI with three pet companions who help him hunt his foes. The “beastmaster hunter” design space is nothing new, but that’s okay because it can be a very satisfying play experience if executed properly. Check out the trailer below to see some of FL4K and his beasts in action. Borderlands 3 releases on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia on September 13th.

2. No Man’s Sky BEYOND Launch Trailer

BEYOND is a massive update for No Man’s Sky that looks to bring both VR and social multiplayer to the game. Initially, the features in BEYOND were split into three separate updates but over time the studio realized their virtual reality, multiplayer, and social systems were all too interconnected to split. We still don’t know everything about BEYOND, but we know it comes out on August 14th and we know it looks gorgeous in the launch trailer.

3. Is Death Stranding Still a PS4 Exclusive?

On PlayStation’s website, Death Stranding used to be listed as a PS4 exclusive. That makes perfect sense because we’ve known the game was going to be exclusive to the platform, except now Death Stranding isn’t listed as an exclusive. Some fans are speculating this means the game is going to come to PC. Another, perhaps more likely take, is that this means Death Stranding will be coming to the PlayStation FIVE and thus won’t be ‘exclusive’ to the PS4. Thoughts?

4. Police Investigate Threats Made Against Twitch Offices

The San Francisco Police Department has been investigating multiple threats made against Twitch’s San Francisco headquarters. Reportedly, Twitch staff were asked to work from home yesterday for their own safety. Apparently, the threat originated from Twitter, although the police have not shared more than that. As of today the SFPD have said there is not an active threat at the Twitch offices.

5. Unrailed! Release Date Trailer

Unrailed! Is a multiplayer game where you cooperate with friends to build a train track across procedurally generated worlds. Based on the trailer, it feels like Overcooked or some other co-op game that is fun on the surface until it totally destroys every meaningful relationship in your life. Joy! You can also play against friends in some sort of versus mode. Unrailed! Comes to Steam Early Access on September 9th.

1. Pokemon Sword and Shield Trailer Reveals New Info
Nintendo released a new trailer for the upcoming Sword and Shield games, showing off new Pokemon, evolutions, and villians. The new bad guys are Team Yell, a group of punks that wear pink and follow a young goth girl named Marnie. You can watch the entire trailer below for more info. Pokemon Sword and Shield release this November 15th for the Nintendo Switch.

2. Rocket League is Moving Away from a Crate System

One of the things Rocket League is known for is crates and the in-game cosmetics they offer. Rocket League crates are easy to acquire, but the keys to open them cost $1 USD each (if you buy 5 or more at once.) Now that Psyonix has been acquired by Epic Games the company is choosing to move toward a more modern approach; you will be able to view the exact items you are purchasing in advance, similar to Fortnite’s Save the World mode.

3. Anthem Releases Cataclysm Update

After several delays, the Cataclysm activity is now available to Anthem players. Cataclysm was added with this week’s 1.3.0 patch. BioWare describes Cataclysm as a mode that evolves over time and encourages players to work as a team. Despite those impressive sounding goals, apparently the mode has been less than impressive to those who got their hands on it early. Update 1.3.0 also introduced tons of balance changes, which you can read about in the article below.

4. Final WoW Classic Test Run Starts Tomorrow

World of Warcraft Classic isn’t set to release for another 3 weeks, but you’ll be able to participate in the final test run starting tomorrow. The test will begin at 11 am PST tomorrow and will end on Friday. You can download WoW Classic using your Battle.net launcher. WoW Classic officially launches on August 27th.
