Ah jeez, Rick. It’s time for Fortnite Season 9 teasers. Just this morning, a massive vault revealed itself below Loot Lake. Players have reported hearing a low, lurching noise at the sight of the vault which is surely a sign of something. What do you think is inside the vault?

5. Fortnite Brings Back Planes for Limited Time Mode

Fortnite Planes are back! There’s no need to worry though, as the planes have only returned for a Limited Time Mode. This week’s patch is small, probably because Epic doesn’t want to shake things up too much with World Cup Qualifying taking place. However, there is a new addition in the form of Epic and Legendary versions of the Infantry Rifle.

1. Apex Legends Patch 1.1.1 Balances Legends and Weapons
The first patch in what feels like forever released for Apex Legends this morning and it is PACKED with exciting changes. Caustic and Gibralter have new aspects in their passive that prevent 10% of all damage taken. Snipers will do more damage to arms and legs. The Wingman and Spitfire both have smaller magazines. The gold weapons now have GOOD ATTACHMENTS, like a Digital Threat on a Gold Wingman and a Turbocharger for the Gold Havoc. Finally, your first top 5 of the day for the next 2 days will earn you an entire battle pass level’s worth of experience!

2. Sony Reveals Next-Gen PlayStation Details

This morning, the lead system architect for the next PlayStation showed off some internal components for the system. The most exciting aspect of the new PlayStation is the inclusion of a solid state drive, which will drastically improve loading speeds. 3. Is There a New Lego Star Wars Game?

Star Wars Celebration took place this past weekend and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was the video game we all had our eyes on. However, an employee of Skywalker Sound, the studio that makes sound effects for all things Star Wars, mentioned in an interview a new Lego Star Wars game set to release this year. This is the first public mention of any such game. Apparently, the new Lego Star Wars game will focus on the entire saga instead of just a specific episode.

4. ‘Fate of Atlantis’ DLC for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Coming Next Week

Ubisoft just dropped the launch trailer for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s Fate of Atlantis DLC and it is striking. The first chapter of the DLC, which releases on April 23rd, is titled Fields of Elysium. In it, you will explore the afterlife of Greek mythology. The remaining two episodes of the DLC release in a couple months and will take us even further into the mysteries of the Greek gods. 5. GameStop Launches “Guaranteed to Love it” Program

GameStop is offering a new deal starting with Days Gone; if you buy a game and within 48 hours decide you don’t like it, you can turn it in for full value in store credit. This should give console gamers who like to own physical versions of games some more flexibility. Theoretically, you could even beat the game within 48 hours and return it for maximum value. Will this save GameStop? Who knows? Who cares?

1. First Look at Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

The 3.7.0 expansion due in a couple of months looks to improve animations, feedback, movement, and more for up close and personal fighters.

4. Sony Blocks Destiny 2 Account Transfers

Bungie was hoping to enable transferring Destiny 2 characters across platforms, but Sony quickly shut that down. Sony “wants people to associate Destiny with PS4” which means we all suffer. Sony has historically fought against cross-platform measures, shutting it down in games like Fallout 76. Fortnite was the exception due to the game’s massive size and popularity.

5. Square Enix Confirms Octopath Traveler is Coming to PC

Last week, there was a leak that suggested the JRPG Octopath Travler would be coming to PC. Square Enix, the studio that developed the game, confirmed this morning that the game will release on Steam on June 7th. The game will be receiving some Steam-specific updates, like achievements and trading cards, but other than that there should not be too many additions to the year-old game.

2. Rainbow Six Siege Update Bringing Operator Changes

Ubisoft released Designer Notes this morning that lay out operator balance changes coming in Rainbow Six Siege’s next patch. The patch includes reworks for both Lion and Capitão, which should not be surprising. What may be surprising, however, are the surprise nerfs to Nomad, Blitz, and Maestro. There is also a buff for Kaid’s AUG-A3. Read the full upcoming changes in the article linked below.

3. World of Warcraft Introducing Mount Abilities

Starting in patch 8.2, World of Warcraft players will be able to customize their mounts with abilities. This is in response to players using the Water Strider mount almost exclusively because of its ability to walk on water. Blizzard has revealed three mount abilities so far: a saddle that prevents damage from knocking you off your mount, a parachute that prevents you from taking damage when falling, and shoes that allow you walk on water.

4. Mega Update Releases for Atlas Today

Massive multiplayer pirate game Atlas got a massive update today that added to the map and introduced a new game mode. There are now apparently 40% more islands and unique land masses for players to explore. There is also a new game mode called Colonies that encourages cooperation between players. There were significant problems with Atlas at launch, so it is nice to see the game get large updates.

5. World War Z Launch Trailer

1. Battlefield 5 Firestorm gets Duos Mode
Firestorm, the battle royale mode for Battlefield 5, originally launched with only 4 player squads and solos. Now, at least for this weekend, you can play duos. EA has said they personally love the game mode and want to bring it to the game, but they want to hear from the community before permanently adding it. In your battle royale experience from Firestorm or other games, have you enjoyed duos mode?

2. Apex Legends Glitch Makes Gibralter Temporarily Popular

Some Apex Legends players have discovered an interesting glitch with Gibralter that makes him temporarily not useless. Gibralter has a Gun Shield when he aims down sights and the game recognizes this as a flat surface for other legends’ abilities. Specifically, you can stick Caustic Gas Traps or Octane’s Jump Pads to the Gun Shield. This means Gibralter can walk around with a Gas Lightsaber to swing at people or permanently bounce around on a Jump Pad. Kind of neat.

3. Thanos Limited Time Mode may Return to Fortnite

Last year, there was a Fortnite Limited Time Mode that let players equip the Infinity Gauntlet to become Thanos. Dataminers have uncovered a few lines of text in the latest patch that suggests Thanos may be making a return to Fortnite. The timing on this makes sense, as Avengers: Endgame releases at the end of this month. Did you enjoy the Thanos Limited Time Mode when it was last available?

4. The Division 2 is getting a Public Test Server

Public test servers are dope for both game companies and gamers. Public test servers enable a game’s more dedicated fans to test new updates before they come to the live game. Ubisoft just announced they will be launching a Public Test Server for The Division 2 ahead of the game’s next big update. The Division 2 players on PC will be able to use their existing characters on the PTS so they can test without starting over. Note the PTS will NOT include the raid coming to the game soon, so have no fear of spoilers.

5. Octopath Traveler is Coming to PC

Octopath Traveler is a JRPG from Square Enix that initially launched exclusively on the Nintendo Switch. Well, the game’s platform exclusivity seems to be coming to an end as a non-deleted blog post on the Square Enix website announced it will soon be available on PC. Apparently, Octopath Traveler will be available on both Steam and the Square Enix Store. A release date is unknown as of yet.

1. Fortnite Introduces Respawning in Patch v8.30
Well, the madmen actually did it. The Reboot Van is now in Fortnite, which means you can now respawn your teammates just like in Apex Legends. Honestly, respawning is one of the best features in Apex Legends and personally we’re excited to see it come to Fortnite. You’ll have 90 seconds to pickup a dead teammate’s Reboot Card. Respawned teammates will drop in with 100 health, a common pistol, some ammo, and 100 wood.

2. Bungie Blocks Xbox and PC Destiny 2 Players from Using PS4 Exclusive Weapon

Xur, the travelling salesman in Destiny 2 that is as much of a meme as he is a saleman, briefly offered a PS4-exclusive weapon to Xbox and PC players. This weapon is not supposed to be available on those platforms until September, so Bungie has decided to prevent players who purchased the exclusive weapon from using it until then. At least they can still look at it in their inventory until then?

3. PSN Name Changes are Live

Finally, the ability to change your PSN name is here for PlayStation gamers. Your first name change will be free, with subsequent name changes costing $5 for PlayStation Plus members and $10 for the rest of us. It is VERY IMPORTANT to note that several games have “critical issues” with name changes that may result in you losing achievements, progress, or even specific game accounts. Sony has a complete list of games with known issues, so please check it before changing your PSN name.

4. Sea of Thieves Anniversary Update will be Massive

Sea of Thieves has received a chain of free content updates since the game released, but the anniversary update slated for April 30th will be the biggest one yet. The biggest additions included in the update are The Arena and Tall Tales. The Arena is a competitive match that pits teams of players against one another and Tall Tales are a new campaign-type mission coming to the game. This whole update sounds pretty sweet and like always it will be completely free to Sea of Thieves owners.

5. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate may be Getting Stage Builder Soon

A Nintendo advertisement posted to YouTube yesterday shows a menu option for Stage Builder, a feature not yet in the game. Stage Builder is a mode that lets players design and create their own battle stages. Naturally, a game mode that enables players to customize and create is in high demand. Hopefully we hear more about Stage Builder from Nintendo soon.

1. ‘Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’ Teaser
EA and Respawn Entertainment are set to unveil a new Star Wars action-adventure game this Saturday at the Star Wars Celebration convention. The reveal will also be livestreamed on EA’s Star Wars Twitch channel. A teaser posted on Twitter today includes the phrase “Don’t stand out” which suggests the main character in Fallen Order may need to keep their Jedi abilities a secret. We can except a late 2019 release for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

2. New Red Dead Online Showdown Mode ‘Plunder’

Rockstar continues to add content to Red Dead Online in the form of Showdown game modes. A new mode called Plunder sets two teams against one another in a battle for frontier resources. Both teams fight to capture supplies from a central location and bring those supplies back to their base. You can also just steal supplies from the enemy base. Be careful though, as you’ll be visible to everyone when holding supplies.

3. Destiny 2 Patch Increases Drop Rates, Buffs Arc Subclasses

Destiny 2’s new patch 2.2.1 came out this morning. After the patch, drop rates for both Gambit Prime weapons and Dreaming City cosmetics have increased significantly. Bungie is also updating older Arc variants for each class. Finally, there are new Catalysts available to improve your old Exotic weapons. You can read all the Arc changes and the rest of the patch notes using the link below.

4. Hearthstone: Rise of Shadows is now Live

The new Hearthstone expansion Rise of Shadows is finally upon us. The new expansion focuses on the return of some of the game’s most famous villains as a part of The League of E.V.I.L. This also marks the annual set rotation that removes old cards from the Standard Mode. Cards from Journey to Un’Goro, Knights of the Frozen Throne, and Kobolds and Catacombs are no longer playable except in Wild Mode.

5. Fallout 76 Patch Introduces Sheepsquatch and New Dungeon

A new patch came to Fallout 76 today, bringing new content for players to experience. There is a new questline called Lying Lowe that tasks players with hunting down the Sheepsquatch, a West Virginia legend. Find one of the ‘Sheepsquatch Ate My Brother’ posters in Lewisburg to start the quest. There is also a new high-level dungeon called The Burrows which will be available on April 16th.

1. Overwatch: Storm Rising Event Announced
The next Overwatch event has been announced and is set to begin next week. Blizzard took to Twitter to release a teaser video for Overwatch: Storm Rising, which looks to be the next lore-based PvE event like Retribution and Uprising. In the video, it is revealed that Tracer, Winston, Mercy, and Genji will attempt to take down Doomfist’s accountant Maximilian. Storm Rising starts on April 16th and lasts until May 6th.

2. Apex Legends May Start Punishing Leavers

We reported on Apex Legends stressful patch release last week. The update, which was meant to be small, temporarily reset the account of everyone who downloaded it. While that has since been fixed, it was not the only thing that slipped into the update. There was also briefly a feature that made quitters wait up to 5 minutes between matches after preemptively leaving games. This feature has ALSO been reverted, but it shows Respawn is exploring ways to discourage players from leaving matches before they should.

3. World of Warcraft Classic PvP Plan Revealed

World of Warcraft Classic is a throwback to the game’s original release, with very limited modern touches. About a month ago Blizzard revealed their plan for content updates post release, but they remained silent on PvP (player versus player) content until this morning. When the game releases, PvP will exist but only informally. Over time, battlegrounds and rewards will be rolled out in a way that mirrors the initial vanilla WoW experience. You can read the entire plan in the post below.

4. Steam Flags Angry Borderlands 2 Reviews as “Off-Topic”

When Borderlands 3 was announced as an Epic Games Store exclusive, many outraged PC gamers took to Steam to express their discontent. Borderlands 1 and 2 were both bombarded with negative reviews on Steam from April 3rd through April 6th. Utilizing a new feature, Steam has tagged these negative reviews as “largely unrelated to the likelihood that you would enjoy the product.” In other words, they have nothing to do with the game itself. The tagged negative reviews do not affect the game’s scores, although they are still available to read.

5. Black Ops 4 Combat Record is Now Accessible

Combat Record is a feature that lets you view personal stats for different weapons and attachment. The feature has been in every Call of Duty title since the original Black Ops in 2010. Well, Combat Record has finally come to Black Ops 4 but unfortunately not in the way many players wanted. You can only access your Combat Record via the game’s official companion app.

2. Warframe Remasters Plains of Eidolon Region

The Plains of Eidolon region was Warframe’s first open-world space when it released in 2017. Although that doesn’t sound that long ago, the Plains were lacking when compared to Warframe’s more recent content. Thus, Digital Extremes felt it appropriate to remaster the entire region. New terrain textures, improved dynamic lighting, and a new day/night cycle have all brought the Plains of Eidolon back to life for Warframe players. There is also new content to explore in the Plains.

3. Fallout 76 Introduces Non-Cosmetic Microtransactions

In what is just another in a long line of questionable decisions, the team behind Fallout 76 have decided to introduce Repair Kits to the game. These Repair Kits can restore any one item to 100% durability without costing you crafting materials. While this sounds great, the problem is they’ll be purchasable with the real money currency. This means Fallout 76 now has a pay-to-win aspect to it, as players who choose to spend money on Atoms will be able to avoid the crafting materials grind and do more, faster. Yikes.

4. Division 2 Teaser Suggests next Assassin’s Creed Game Features Vikings

Apparently an in-game poster in The Division 2 is probably a teaser for the next Assassin’s Creed game. The poster shows a Viking character holding the Apple of Eden, an iconic piece of Assassin’s Creed lore. Kotaku has taken this opportunity to confirm the next Assassin’s Creed game does in fact feature Vikings. The game, codenamed “Kingdom,” is skipping 2019 and releasing next year. This suggests it is probably going to come out for the next generation of gaming consoles.

5. New Nintendo Switch Controller Enables Voice Chat

A new controller for the Nintendo Switch is coming out in June that will enable voice chat for some games. The controller includes an audio jack and audio controls and will allow you to chat with your friends while playing any game that runs Vivox integrated in-game chat. The good news for everyone is that Fortnite runs this technology, meaning the controller is compatible with the popular battle royale. The controller costs $24.99 and you can pre-order it next month.

4. BioWare Boss Acknowledges Studio’s Issues

If you’ve missed this week’s drama, let us try to catch you up. An article from Kotaku reported on cultural issues within BioWare that could’ve contributed to Anthem’s weak launch. Initially, the response from BioWare seemed to be one of denial. However, this morning the head of BioWare acknowledged that “these problems are real” and they will work to fix them. While that’s well and good, I think the bigger question remains; can they fix Anthem while they’re at it?

1. Apex Legends Patch 1.1 Accidentally Resets Account Progress
Apex Legends got a small update this morning that was supposed to introduce a few small quality-of-life updates to the game. Instead, players who updated to patch 1.1 realized all of their account progress had been reset. This includes level progress, achievements, and battle pass purchase and progress. Respawn is desperately working to fix this issue and we’re all trying our best not to freak out. Please, please, please fix this Respawn. (Oh, the update lets you party up with good teammates and allows you to mute bad ones in Legend select.)

UPDATE: Respawn has fixed the issue and player progress has been restored. Phew.

2. Fortnite’s Dusty Divot Begins Filling with Lava

Since just this morning, the Dusty Divot on Fortnite’s battle royale map has begun to fill up with lava. Dusty Divot has been around since Season 4, when a meteor struck Dusty Depot and destroyed it. Currently the divot isn’t completely full of lava, but only Epic knows for sure what will happen next. Do you think this is the end of Dusty Divot?

3. Call of Duty’s Blackout is Free to Play this Month

Black Ops 4’s battle royale mode Blackout is free to play on all platforms until April 30th. While this coincides with the release of the new Alcatraz map, it is a bit awkward as Alcatraz is currently only available on PS4. It is unclear when the close-quarters map will come to PC or Xbox One, but hopefully it is before the end of the month so those of us who don’t own Black Ops 4 yet can try it.

4. Borderlands 3 Official Announce Trailer

Last week we saw an announcement trailer for Borderlands 3 at PAX East. Today, Gearbox Studios released an official announce trailer for the game that reveals new vault hunters, new villains, and a release date. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Blackout mode has just gotten a new map based on the infamous Alactraz island. The Alcatraz map is noticeably smaller than Blackout’s original map, which was touted as the biggest map in Call of Duty history, so it should generate notably different gameplay. If we consider the popularity of Sanhok, PUBG’s smallest map, this means Alcatraz may be exceedingly popular with Blackout players. What do you guys think?

2. Fortnite Patch Introduces Boom Bow

There’s a new weapon in Fortnite! The Boom Bow shoots exploding arrows at enemies. The new weapon uses shotgun ammo and it deals both impact damage upon hitting an enemy and explosive damage in a small area after detonating. 3. Red Dead Online gets ‘Up in Smoke’ Game Mode

Up In Smoke is now playable on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

4. Borderlands 3 Possible Release Date Leaks

A since-deleted tweet from the official Borderlands Twitter account has possible revealed the release date for Borderlands 3. The tweet read “Mayhem is Coming September 13. Pre-order now for the Gold Weapon Skins Pack!” It should be noted this occurred yesterday, which was April Fool’s Day, but this seems like a terrible prank. There was also a deleted video that included the Epic Game’s Store logo, which may suggest Borderlands 3 could be an Epic Games Store exclusive on PC.

4. Riot Games Cancels Rift Rivals in Smaller Regions

Rift Rivals is a series of exhibition League of Legends matches that pits the best teams from different regions against one another. North America versus Europe and China versus South Korea versus Taiwan have been exciting rivalries that draw audiences. The Rift Rivals tournaments that feature less popular regions like Southeast Asia, Japan, Oceania, and Latin America have been cancelled this year. Apparently, they didn’t draw enough of an audience to justify the production costs.

4. Minecraft Update Removes References to Game’s Creator

The most recent Minecraft update has removed a couple title screen references to ‘Notch,’ the game’s original creator. Notch sold Minecraft to Microsoft for $2.5 billion USD in 2014 and has not been involved with the game since. Between then and now, however, he has made dozens of controversial remarks on social media. This is probably why his name has been removed from the game’s title screen, however Notch is still referenced in the credits.

While many studios have been pulling away from E3 this year, CD Projekt Red has said they’re preparing another awesome show for E3 2019. It is uncertain whether the entire presentation will focus on Cyberpunk 2077, as CD Projekt Red is working on at least one unannounced title currently. E3 2019 starts on June 11th.

Gwent is also getting its first expansion tomorrow, titled Crimson Curse.

1. Fallout 76 Survival Mode Beta Launches
We know nobody asked, but the Fallout 76 Survival Mode beta launched this morning. Survival Mode is a more hardcore, PVP focused version of Bethesda recent disappointment. Players will now select upon launch whether they’d like to play Survival Mode or the game’s traditional Adventure Mode. In Survival Mode you’ll take full damage from others immediately and you can only respawn or fast travel at certain locations. Honestly, it sounds pretty tight.

2. Major Star Wars Battlefront II Update Released Today

Remember Star Wars Battlefront II? Not the old one, but the more recent game that was pretty sweet but got totally ruined by a greedy microtransaction model. Well, THAT game just got a massive free update that introduced a new game mode called Capital Supremacy. There is also a new map, the Pipeline Junction West on Geonosis. Additionally, the update includes several hero balance tweaks and some quality of life improvements. Check out the patch notes in the article below.

The Lord of the Rings – Gollum will release sometime in 2021, so buckle up for a long wait.

4. Anthem Update 1.0.4 Adds Legendary Missions

In today’s update, BioWare is attempting to appease Anthem players, who have been upset with the game’s loot since launch. Update 1.0.4 adds Legendary Missinos, Elysian Caches, and other adjustments to the game’s loot economy. There is a single Legendary Mission each day, but it can be completed any number of times. The update also made chests and enemies more likely to drop additional items and crafting materials.

5. Red Dead Online gets ‘Target Races’ Game Mode

Red Dead Online is constantly growing, which is equal parts awesome and necessary. Today, Red Dead Online got a new game mode called Target Races. You can also use weapons to attack your opponents. All online activities offer a 20% experience boost this week.

1. Battlefield 5 BR Mode ‘Firestorm’ is Live
The battle royale mode for Battlefield 5 is finally here! Firestorm is a classic battle royale mode, where 100 players can battle it out to be the last one standing in either solos, duos, or squads. Firestorm is an absolutely massive map that includes boats, tanks, and everything else that makes Battlefield games awesome. While it is definitely not too little, Firestorm may be too late to make a big impact on the battle royale genre. Will you be playing it?

2. ‘The Floor is Lava’ LTM is Coming to Fortnite

The Floor is Lava is Fortnite’s next Limited Time Mode. This limited time mode is a throwback to the classic childhood game we all remember, where you would pretend the floor was lava so you had to cross the room by jumping from one piece of furniture to another. The mode description says “get to high ground or build above the lava that’s overtaking the island.” This LTM is expected to come to Fortnite soon.

3. Philadelphia Fusion are Building an Esports Arena

Overwatch League team Philadelphia Fusion have announced they are building a massive esports arena to play their home games in the future. The $50 million dollar project will be the first “purpose-built esports arena in the Western hemisphere.” The Fusion Arena will set up to 3500 spectators. There will also be bars, suites, box seating, a dedicated training facility, a broadcast studio, and team offices. It is unknown whether the arena will be ready in time for the OWL 2020 season which is when teams will start playing home and away games.

4. No Man’s Sky is Getting VR

Sony announced this morning that No Man’s Sky will be adding VR compatibility later this summer. No Man’s Sky Beyond was announced earlier this month; Beyond is a multi-part free expansion to the space exploration game. The first chapter of Beyond will introduce No Man’s Sky Online, which will enable you to play the game with friends. It is unclear when specifically VR compatibility will come to the game except we know it will come out during the summer.

5. Apple Arcade is a New Subscription Game Service

Today Apple announced Apple Arcade, a new subscription service that will give subscribers access to premium games. The service is coming to iPhone, iPad, Apple computers, and Apple TV. Apple is both handpicking games for the service and developing games specifically for it. There will be no in-game advertisements or in-app purchases. Apple Arcade is set to launch in the fall of this year and we expect to find out more information about it before then.

2. Apex Legends Season 1 is Live!

Apex Legends’ first season is finally here! The new season brings to the game a battle pass, a new Legend, dozens of bugfixes, and a handful of character adjustments. The battle pass costs $10 USD and gives you access to over 100 unique items. The new legend is Octane, the High-Speed Daredevil, who is sure to shake things up a bit. Finally, there are dozens of bug fixes, optimizations, and character changes. Read all of the Season 1 patch notes here!

3. You can now Forgive Teamkills in Rainbow Six Siege

Ubisoft is finally reworking their solution to the teamkilling issue in Rainbow Six Siege. Previously, players could kill two teammates using friendly fire and get booted from the game if they teamkilled a third. Now, after the first teamkill, all damage the offending player commits to their teammates is actually reversed back onto them. You can also now forgive teammates for teamkilling, which has been a highly requested feature from Rainbow Six players for some time.

4. Call of Duty is Coming to Mobile Devices

Activision and Tencent just mutually announced Call of Duty: Mobile. The mobile game will be free to play and available on both iOS and Android devices. Call of Duty: Mobile will draw inspiration from both Black Ops and Modern Warfare games. It will feature popular game modes like Search and Destroy and Free-For-All. Additionally, there will be iconic maps like Nuketown, Crash, and Hijacked. There is a public beta coming for Call of Duty: Mobile this summer.

5. Rockstar Outlines Next Red Dead Online Update

In a press release this morning Rockstar outlined several features that will be coming to Red Dead Online in a major update “later this Spring.” Among the features is the ability to toggle on Defensive Mode, which will make it harder for enemies to kill you and vice versa. There is also a new Hostility System to discourage griefing. There will be more Land of Opportunity Missions, more Free Roam Missions, and more dynamic events. Finally, there is the new LeMat Revolver to look forward to.

1. Apex Legends Season 1 Starts Tomorrow!
Respawn Entertainment has finally announced the official start date for Season 1 of Apex Legends! The new season will start tomorrow, March 19th, and will introduce the new Legend Octane to the game. There will also be a battle pass, including over 100 new cosmetics to earn. The new season is called Wild Frontier and you can check out more information, including all of the Battle Pass rewards, right here!

2. Fortnite Temporarily Disables Hamster Ball

Due to stability issues related to the Baller, Epic Games has temporarily disabled the item. The Baller is the official name of what most call ‘the giant hamster ball’ that was recently added to Fortnite’s battle royale mode. The Baller has been a dominant force in the game’s competitive meta since it was introduced, and many seem happy to see the item gone. Knowing Epic, the Baller will probably return very soon.

3. Battlefield 5’s Firestorm Map is Massive

DICE announced Firestorm last week, the battle royale game mode coming to Battlefield V. The map is called Halvøy and it is actually ten times larger than the game’s current largest map, Hamada. While battle royale maps are normally large, this is a bit ridiculous. It makes sense though, as Firestorm will feature helicopters, tanks, and other vehicles that will enable players to traverse the map with speed. Firestorm comes to Battlefield V on March 25th.

4. The Culling Servers Are Going Offline

The Culling is a battle royale game that has had a tragic storyline. The Culling was a generally popular game that got put on the backburner almost immediately after release so the team behind it could work on developing a sequel instead. After the sequel’s failed launch, the team reinvested in the original The Culling game and made it free to play. Unfortunately, a microtransaction model didn’t generate enough revenue to keep the lights on and come May the game’s servers will be shutting down for good.
5. Splatoon 2 Demo Coming to Nintendo Switch

Splatoon 2, the popular online shooter for Nintendo Switch, will be getting a free week starting tomorrow morning. The special demo version of the game can be downloaded from the Nintendo eShop now. You can access four different game modes during the demo, including four-on-four Turf War and the game’s classic mode. If you decide you like Splatoon 2 enough to buy it, you’re in luck! Splatoon 2 is 20% off for the next week.

Happy Mootday everyone! (every day is Mootday if you're living life right.) In this week's episode of Moot Points with Dylan & Brian the guys talk about Firestorm, the battle royale game mode coming to Battlefield V next week. Hear all about the upcoming BR in the video now!

1. Moot Points: Battlefield V Firestorm Mode Revealed (Episode 46)

2. Overwatch League Teams will Play in Home Cities in 2020

Starting in 2020, all Overwatch League teams will get to play in their home cities. Currently, all matches are played at the Blizzard Arena in Burbank, CA with the exception of a few “homestand weekends” this season. During these homestand weekends the Dallas Fuel, Los Angeles Valiant, and Atlanta Reign will get to play a few matches in their home cities. By next year, many teams still won’t have their own stadiums so it will be interesting to see where exactly they get to play. Still, this is a step in the right direction for the Overwatch League.

3. No Man’s Sky: Beyond Update Coming this Summer

Hello Games just announced a big update they have planned for No Man’s Sky. The update is called Beyond and it has three parts. The first part of the planned update, which is the only currently revealed part, will introduce No Man’s Sky Online; you’ll be able to experience a ‘radical new social and multiplayer experience.’ Over the next few weeks we will hopefully learn more about release dates and the following two parts of Beyond.

4. Apex Legends Teasing New Legend, Octane

While they are still making us wait for the battle pass, Respawn Entertainment has begun teasing the game’s next Legend. There is now a jump-pad in the game, just outside of the popular dropspot Market. The jump-pad matches the leaked Ultimate ability for Octane, and functions similarly; when you step on it, you get launched into the air. When can assume Octane will release alongside the battle pass at the start of Season 1. Hopefully, this teasing means both of those are just around the corner.

5. Anthem Improves Grandmaster Loot Drops

Anthem loot drop tables have been notably laughable since the game released. BioWare took a step toward fixing that this morning, as they released an update to Anthem that increased the rate of masterwork and legendary drops. Specifically, these items will now drop at a higher rate for grandmaster 2 and grandmaster 3 difficulty levels. There are also increased drop rates for harder enemies at all difficulty levels.

1. Battlefield V Official Firestorm Reveal Trailer
Dice just released a reveal trailer for Battlefield V’s battle royale mode ‘Firestorm.’ Last week a tutorial video for the game mode leaked, where a narrator explained some of the details of Firestorm. This video, in comparison, is way more cinematic and exciting. We can see destructible buildings, vehicles, and everything else that is classic Battlefield. We also now have a release date for Firestorm. The battle royale mode will release on March 25th.

2. Ninja got Paid $1 Million to Play Apex Legends

A report from Reuters has claimed that popular streamer Ninja was paid $1 million USD to stream Apex Legends when the game launched. When Apex Legends ‘surprise’ launched on February 4th, dozens of streamers had sponsored streams lined up. Presumably, none of them got paid as much as Ninja. While Ninja has shifted his streams back towards Fortnite these days, the promotional streams definitely seem to have worked out for EA as Apex Legends is constantly toward the top of Twitch.

3. New Co-op Zombie Game ‘Back 4 Blood’ Announced

The studio that developed the original Left 4 Dead has announced they’re making another co-op zombie shooter. While the developers, Turtle Rock Studios, have said they’re “going back to their roots” for this game, they also stressed this is NOT Left 4 Dead 3. Back 4 Blood is brand new, original intellectual property. Back 4 Blood will feature both a campaign and PVP combat, and there won’t be a battle royale mode. The game is set to release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC but it does not have a release date yet.

4. Hearthstone Expansion ‘Rise of Shadows’ Revealed

Blizzard has just announced the next Hearthstone expansion, which will feature 135 new cards. The Rise of Shadows expansion introduces the League of E.V.I.L., which features a collection of past villains who are returning to the game. The first new mechanic revealed so far is Schemes, which are spells that grow in power every turn they’re in your hand. Lackeys are also a new mechanic; Lackeys are cheap minions that get added to your hand, sort of similar to Spare Parts from the Goblins vs Gnomes expansion. Finally, Twinspells are spells that add a copy of themselves to your hand when you cast them the first time.

5. Overwatch’s New Hero Baptiste will be Live next Week

Overwatch’s 30th hero will be coming to live servers on all platforms on March 19th. Baptiste will be the seventh support character in Overwatch. The combat medic has a submachine gun that can launch healing Biotic Grenades. He can also heal with his Regenerative Burst ability. Hopefully Baptiste will shake things up in Overwatch a bit using the two very unique abilities, Immortality Field and Amplification Matrix. Are you excited to try Baptiste?

1. PlayerUnknown is No Longer Working on PUBG
Brendan Greene, perhaps better known as PlayerUnknown, is shifting to a new position with PUBG Corp. that will take him away from directly working on the game named after him. Greene is moving from Seoul to Amsterdam, where he will lead a new division of PUBG Corp. called PUBG Special Projects. According to Greene, the new group will focus on “exploring, experimenting, and creating new technologies, tools, pipelines, and gameplay.”

2. PS4 Players Get Blackout Hardcore Mode

The Hardcore Blackout mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is now available on PS4. Hardcore Blackout features no HUD, armor, vehicles, or zombies in an attempt to provide a more serious version of the popular battle royale game mode. This update is a part of the Shamrock & Awe event to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. There is also new vehicles, the ability to inspect weapons, and new Gestures and Callouts at the Victory Screen.

3. Fortnite Reorganizes Cross-Platform Defaults

Epic Games included a small section in yesterday’s V8.10 patch notes that address crossplay matchmaking. Starting with this new update, Xbox One and PS4 players will be combined in their matches by default. Additionally, Nintendo Switch players and mobile players will be paired against one another. You can still play with friends on any platform, but these are the new default options for those who opt into crossplay.

4. Fallout 76 Introduces Free ‘Wild Appalachia’ Update

Wild Applalachia is the first of many free content updates that will come to Fallout 76 over the coming months. Starting today, you can complete the Wasted on Nukashine questline to unlock the ability to brew and distill drinks. Today’s update also added a reporting tool that will finally allow you to report cheaters or griefers as you encounter them.

5. We can now Stream Games from PC to an Xbox One

You can now use Microsoft’s Wireless Display app to stream PC games to your Xbox One. While there may be a small market for this feature, it is still nice to see Microsoft offering the option to those who may want it. Perhaps an Xbox One is the cheapest option you have available to connect your sweet gaming PC to your large flat screen TV in the other room.

1. Fortnite Patch 8.10 Adds Giant Hamster Balls
The Baller is the newest vehicle to come to Fortnite. The hamster ball-esque vehicle includes a boost and a grapple that should enable some sweet tricks. You can find The Baller at outpousts and pirate camp loot stashes. The Baller has 300 health and will protect it’s inhabitant until it breaks. There are also new free vending machines, but they will only dispense one item before breaking. There have also been some additions and improvements to the game’s new ping system.

2. Apex Legends Battle Pass is Not Releasing Today

An image showing Octane, the rumored new Legend, appeared on the Origin store this morning alongside a paragraph introducing the game’s first season. The banner image has since been taken down, but this further raised expectations of the battle pass launching today. Respawn’s community manager posted to clarify that the Battle Pass and Season 1 will NOT launch today. Check out this story from the hopeful far away time that was this morning, when we still thought we’d be getting the Battle Pass today.

3. Halo: The Master Chief Collection is Coming to PC

Microsoft has finally confirmed we will be getting Halo: The Master Chief Collection on PC! The Master Chief Collection includes effectively every Halo game, combined into one. Halo 1, 2, 3, 4, and even ODST are included. Further, Microsoft is adding Halo: Reach as well. Apparently Microsoft plans to “roll out each of the games in The MCC one by one” on PC, so we won’t be getting all of the games at once. There is no confirmed date for when The MCC will be available on PC but it’s on the way nonetheless!

4. Fortnite Introducing ‘Undo Purchase’ Button Soon

Epic Games has announced they plan to add an Undo Purchase button to the shop, which will allow users to refund a purchase within 5 minutes. This is to help players who accidentally make a purchase or buy something and then immediately regret it. There already are refund tokens in the game, but Fortnite players only get a few and many have already spent theirs. We don’t know exactly when this feature will be live, but seeing as Epic is talking about it now it will hopefully be out soon.

5. Hollow Knight Collector’s Edition Announced

A new Collector’s Edition of the popular platformer Hollow Knight is now available, including a selection of exclusive goodies. The Collector’s Edition includes: a metal brooch and a nightstand for it, a 14-page Quirrel comic book, a Gold Foil Art Print Set, and a physical copy of the game including all DLC for the platform of your choice. There’s also a game manual and a map of Hallownest. The Collector’s Edition costs between $64 and $69 USD based on platform.

1. Respawn Bans 355K Apex Legends Cheaters on PC
Respawn Entertainment has been working hard since Apex Legends launched 5 weeks ago. One facet of their game the community is growing more frustrated with is cheaters; because Apex Legends is a free-to-play title, it is a particularly attractive game to cheaters. Respawn announced over the weekend they’ve already banned 355,000 cheaters on PC alone through Easy Anti Cheat. Respawn is adding an in-game report feature soon, which will help us help them fight these cheaters. Also, they may want to region-lock China, as it seems the majority of cheaters stem from that region.

2. First Look at Harry Potter: Wizards Unite

Niantic has finally revealed their Harry Potter branded augmented reality mobile game, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. In Wizards Unite, you’ll take to the real world to “help prevent The Calamity from exposing the secrets of the wizarding world.” Check out the game’s website via the link below to see what Niantic has revealed about the game so far. It looks like you’ll be casting spells, preparing potions, and more.

3. World of Warcraft Classic Content Plan Revealed

Blizzard took to their official forums this morning to reveal their Content Plan for World of Warcraft Classic, which is set to release this year. WoW Classic is designed to recapture the unparalleled magic of World of Warcraft’s original release, way back in 2004. Accordingly, Blizzard will be adding content to the game in carefully structured waves. WoW Classic will include 6 content phases. The first phase will include only Molten Core, Onyxia, and Maraudon. Check out the forum post at the link below to see the remaining phases.

4. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Launch Trailer

From Software just put the launch trailer for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and it is intriguing, to say the least. The video starts with the main character fighting a bear that inexplicably has a flaming log tied to its head and only gets better from there. The trailer larger features action scenes that demonstrate what combat in the game will be like. If you want to learn more about the story of Sekiro, there was a story trailer last month. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice launches March 22nd on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

5. Valve Fires Artifact Creator Richard Garfield

Artifact has had a rough go of things basically since the game launched, and now the game will have to go forward without its lead creator. Valve laid off a couple dozen employees and contractors last week, including Artifact lead designer Richard Garfield. It makes sense, as the game has struggled so significantly. However, this does not mean Valve is giving up on Artifact; apparently, they’re still very much invested in trying to revitalize the digital card game, they just won’t be involving Garfield in that process.

Happy Friday Mooties! In this week's episode of Moot Points, we explore the ramifications of the first balance patch to come to Apex Legends. 2. Leaked Footage of Battlefield 5 Battle Royale Mode

We were all so excited when we heard Battlefield 5 was going to have a battle royale mode, only to be let down when we heard it wouldn’t be in the game upon release. Well, a video leaked yesterday that confirms the game mode exists at least. The video shows us a pretty stock battle royale, with perhaps the most unique thing being you can shoot a pistol when you’re downed. Hopefully we get an official announcement soon, but either way this game mode is several months too late.

3. The Division 2 Won’t be Available on 3rd Party Stores After Launch

The Division 2 is currently available to buy on third party stores, but after the game launches next week that won’t be the case. Ubisoft struck an exclusivity deal with Epic Games which notably keeps their game off Steam, but we’re now learning it also means you will only be able to buy game keys from Ubisoft or the Epic Games Stores. Many gamers rely on third party stores to get discounts on popular games, so this is unfortunate news for bargain-hunting gamers.

4. Warframe’s Melee Combat Overhaul is Underway

Warframe just got the first step in a highly anticipated melee combat overhaul. You can now instantly switch from ranged to melee. Additionally, your melee combos will resume from where you left off if you momentarily switch to a gun. There are also other changes to melee combat like the ability to aim your ground slams. These changes come alongside the release of Operation: Buried Depts, which is the game’s first community event of the year.

5. Subnautica Below Zero Update adds the Seatruck

Subnautica Below Zero is the awesome sequel to the awesome underwater exploration game Subnautica. Below Zero is still in early access, but the game got its first patch today. The update adds a new customizable vehicle called the Seatruck; your Seatruck starts with a cabin and allows you to add different modules to it based on your needs. There are also new biomes and enemies in the update.

1. Apex Legends Nerfs Wingman and Peacekeeper
Respawn Entertainment released the first balance patch for Apex Legends yesterday afternoon, nerfing both the Wingman and the Peacekeeper. Respawn took a respectfully conservative approach with their nerfs; the Wingman now has a slightly reduced rate of fire, a lower Skullpierce Headshot damage multiplier, and more hip fire spread. The Peacekeeper will now benefit less from the Shotgun Bolt increasing its rechamber rate. Both weapons will also spawn on the map less than before. Good job Respawn.

2. Original Diablo now Available on GOG

The classic first Diablo game is now available for purchase on GOG.com. This is the first time Blizzard has made this game available to purchase digitally. It is interesting that they’re choosing to sell it through a third-party website instead of their Battle net launcher. This is the first in a line of Blizzard games that will be available through GOG. The best part is Diablo is only $9.99, so get out there and start slaying demons!

3. PUBG is Updating Their Maps

In response to some leaks, PUBG Corp. took to their website to confirm they are updating their maps. Specifically, PUBG Corp is working to address loot balance. Apparently, they are going about addressing this issue via adding more compounds to the map among other solutions. While PUBG Corp. implied they’re going to update multiple maps, they’re starting with just Erangel. We unfortunately don’t have more details, but it is nice to hear they’re constantly working to improve their game.

4. H1Z1 Rebrands on PC to Z1BR

H1Z1 kicked off their third season of PC yesterday with a surprising change to their name. The battle royale game is now called Z1 Battle Royale, or Z1BR for short. The third season update rolls back the clock on some critical aspects of the game, including weapon recoil and bullet velocity. The goal is to capture the more popular era of the game that took place during late 2016 and early 2017. Also, Z1BR is under new management; developer NantG has taken over from Daybreak Game Company.

5. Nintendo Announces Labo VR Kit for the Switch

Nintendo just announced a new virtual reality kit for the Nintendo Switch utilizing the console’s Labo cardboard. There are two different sets; the full set costs $80 and includes VR goggles and five cardboard designs while the smaller kit includes only one cardboard design and the goggles for $40. Additional cardboard designs will be available for purchase later. The VR Labo kits will be available in North America on April 12th.

1. Rainbow Six Siege ‘Burnt Horizon’ is Live Now
Year 4 Season 1 for Rainbow Six Siege is finally here. The new Operation Burnt Horizon is now available to download on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. There are two new Australian operators named Mozzie and Gridlock. There’s also a new map called Outback. Also, if the download for Burnt Horizon seems massive don’t worry; the total download size of the game is actually going to be less than before, as Ubisoft is consolidating some things.

2. Fortnite Players are Instantly Dying to the Fork Knife

Fork Knife is one of the hottest games in the world, popular among all the kids these days. Oh wait, that’s Fortnite; Fork Knife is a dumb joke name used by teachers and parents to illicit groans and eye rolls from their unfortunate victims. Well, because Epic Games is hip and cool they added an actual Fork Knife to their game. The only issue is that there’s now a particular tile in the Fork Knife that kills players instantly as of Season 8. Epic says they’re aware of the issue and they’ll fix it soon.

3. Death Stranding is Behind Schedule

Death Stranding is a new game from Hideo Kojima. We honestly don’t know much about the game other than a few hard to decipher trailers, but we do know it is currently behind schedule. Kojima originally hinted that the game may release BEFORE 2019, which obviously didn’t happen, so this isn’t the first time the game has been delayed. The real question now is whether we will get our hands on Death Stranding before the year ends. What do you think?

4. Farming Simulator 19 Getting a new DLC

We know you are all playing Farming Simulator 19 so we’re excited to tell you about the game’s upcoming DLC. The Anderson Group DLC focuses on baling, which is the act of rolling something into a bale. There are new vehicles that will enable you to roll bales of hay and transport them. Sounds amazing, doesn’t it? The Anderson Group DLC comes to Farming Simulator 19 on March 26th.

5. Turok: Dinosaur Hunter is Coming to the Nintendo Switch

Remember Turok: Dinosaur Hunter? The game is one of the most memorable from the Nintendo 64. Turok gave players a full 3D world to explore, filled with enemies, traps, and puzzles to fight and overcome. The re-release on the Nintendo Switch promises all of the magic of the original game plus the awesome portability of the switch. Turok: Dinosaur Hunter comes to the Switch on March 18th.

1. Red Dead Online Introduces new Game Mode ‘Fool’s Gold’
Rockstar rolled out a new game mode for Red Dead Online today. The new game mode is called Fool’s Gold; players compete to wear a golden suit of armor and then kill as many enemies as possible while wearing it. The update also offers free items to players who login this week; ammo, fire bottles, fire arrows, and more are all available to pick up at camp or any in-game post office. Finally, you can now use John Marston’s Evans Repeater rifle.

2. Magic: the Gathering Black Lotus Sells for $166,100

A copy of Black Lotus, the most desired and arguably most powerful card in Magic: the Gathering, just sold for $166,100 USD on Ebay. This particular Black Lotus is from the Alpha set, which was the game’s first ever print run dating back to 1993. The reason this Black Lotus sold for so much is its 9.5 out of 10 Beckett rating; this is effectively as mint condition as you ever find a card. Just 7 months ago, another 9.5 Black Lotus sold for $87,672. For comparision, a 9.0 Black Lotus sold for only $57,350 in January.

3.Previously Exclusive Fortnite Skin ‘Reflex’ No Longer Exclusive

The Reflex skin for Fortnite was initially only available through an Nvidia bundle, but it was available in yesterday’s item shop for 1200 Vbucks. Many players are apparently upset at this, as they perceived Reflex to be an exclusive similar to the Samsung Galaxy skin; people were buying graphic cards to get the exclusive skin to then resell both the graphics card and the skin code to profit. Seems a bit skeezy, so maybe we shouldn’t feel too much sympathy? Or is this just capitalism at work?

4. MLB The Show 19 New Game Mode called ‘March to October’

MLB The Show has been the dominant baseball video game series for what feels like forever at this point. No other realistic baseball game has captured an audience the way MLB The Show does year after year. This year’s installment in the series will feature a new game mode called March to October. In it, you will pop in and play the most key moments throughout your team’s season to propel your team toward the playoffs. Check out the article below to see 47 minutes of unedited footage of the new game mode.

5. Destiny 2’s Season of the Drifter Adds 5 New Exotics

The Season of the Drifter update came to Destiny 2 today, bringing with it five new Exotics. There are new exotic gauntlets for Hunters, Titans, and Warlocks and two new Exotic weapons. The first of the two Exotic weapons is Thorn, which will be available via an Exotic quest starting on March 12th. The other Exotic weapon is Arbalest, a Kinetic linear fusion rifle; we don’t yet know how to get your hands on Arbalest.

1. Apex Legends hits 50 Million Players
Apex Legends has officially hit 50 million unique players, just one month after the game launched. For comparison, it took Fortnite’s free battle royale mode four months to hit 50 million players. However, battle royale gaming is more mainstream now than it was then, largely due to Fortnite. Whether Apex Legends will continue to grow to the point where it can compete with Fortnite, which has by now seen over 200 million players, is yet to be seen.

2. The PlayStation 2 is 19 Years Old Today

19 years ago, Sony introduced the PlayStation 2 to Japanese markets. Roughly 6 months later, on October 26th, 2000 Sony introduced the console to the US market. Since then, over 155 million PS2s have been sold. Some of the most iconic gaming franchises were born on the PlayStation 2. Many gamers, too, found their passion for the hobby on a PlayStation 2. What were some of your favorite PlayStation 2 games?

3. Astralis Win CS:GO Major at IEM Katowice

The grand finals of this weekend’s CS:GO major was a classive David vs. Goliath situation. Astralis is clearly the best team in the world and arguably the best team in Counter Strike history. ENCE were the underdogs, but they had already defeated the 2nd and 3rd best teams in the world on their way to the finals. Despite ENCE starting strong, Astralis quickly found their form and dominated the finals. Astralis has now won 3 out of the last 5 majors, including two in a row.

4. Gwent Expansion ‘Crimson Curse’ Announced

Gwent is CD Projekt Red’s Witcher-based card game. The game will be getting it’s first expansion, called Crimson Curse, on March 28th. Crimson Curse will introduce over 100 new cards, with 31 neutral cards and 14 per faction. There are new mechanics including: new Poison and Bleeding effects, Shield and Vitality boosts, and mechanics called Deathblow and Berserk. There are five preview cards on Gwent’s website to view now.

5. Sony is Allegedly Offering Refunds over Anthem Crashes on PS4

Anthem has a bit of a bumpy launch with concerns over both game mechanics and server stability. However, a third issue is a number of PlayStation 4 players who are experiencing console crashes while playing Anthem. Some of the crashes are so severe that a few users have claimed Anthem has bricked their system. Apparently, Sony is issuing refunds to some users who request them, although others claim their refund requests have been denied.

1. Happy Friday Mootimon trainers! So, Pokemon Gen 8 probably won't have a battle royale mode. But, it will have a ton of other cool stuff which we cover in this week's episode of Moot Points with Dylan & Brian. We also talk about Fortnite Season 8, the new Overwatch hero, and more.

2.The next Legend for Apex Legends may have Leaked

There have been some supposed leaks regarding the next Legends to come to Apex Legends, but one is more convincing than the rest; an image showing a Legend named Octane looks very legitimate. Octane also visually matches one of the two shadows we saw in a teaser video from Respawn, adding credence to the leak. Octane’s passive lets him heal over time while out of combat, his tactical lets his spend health to move faster, and his ultimate is a launch pad.

3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remaster Coming

PEGI, a website that gives games their maturity ratings, accidentally posted a rating for “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered” yesterday. It has since been removed from their website, but the damage is done. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was one of the most popular games in the iconic series. The title unfortunately suggests the Remaster may only include the campaign, but even that would still be welcome.

4. Apex Legends Map Leaked a Year Ago

About 11 months ago, an anonymous user posted a picture on reddit with the title “Alleged Minimap for Rumored Titanfall Battle Royal Game.” The picture is the map is almost exactly the Apex Legends map, just rotated 90 degrees. You probably didn’t see the original leak, as it had 0 upvotes and only 14 comments. Personally, we’re glad the leak didn’t blow up; one of the coolest things about Apex Legends was the surprise release, and the anticipation for the game may have ruined it.

5. Epic Sued over Save the World’s Loot Llamas

Epic Games is currently being sued for the apparently predatory nature of the Loot Llamas in the Save the World game mode. Unlike most “acceptable” loot boxes which only include cosmetic items, the loot boxes in Save the World include weapons, materials, and other resources that directly affect how successful you can be in the game. The lawsuit alleges the game baits players in with a low starting price, only to basically force them to spend money on Loot Llamas to play the game. It should be noted that last month Epic began disclosing exactly what was inside each Loot Llama before you bought it.

1. Fortnite Season 8 is Here!
Remember that little indie game Fortnite? Epic Games just released the game’s eighth season and it is becoming even more like Apex Legends, which is a good thing. Season 8 introduces a ping system that lets you more easily communicate with your teammates. There is also an updated UI that looks great. As far as map changes go, there’s a new volcano and volcanic vents that boost players into the sky. Finally, a new season means a new battle pass with tons of sweet cosmetics.

2. Hearthstone’s Year of the Dragon Revealed

Blizzard announced the next year of Hearthstone expansions will be collectively called the Year of the Dragon. The new year of content will see big changes to the Arena game mode and a commitment to more single player content. Also, in surprising news, Baku the Mooneater and Genn Greymane are leaving Standard a full year early. The Even/Odd cards have dominated the Standard format for too long, so good riddance. Lastly, the iconic cards Doomguard, Naturalize, and Divine Favor are all being vaulted.

3. Cyberpunk 2077 Will be at E3

CD Projekt Red has confirmed they will be at E3 this year with Cyberpunk 2077. It is uncertain to what degree they’ll be demoing the game; while we can all hope for a playable demo, we still don’t even know a release date for the game so there’s no way to say if a playable demo is a realistic expectation or not. Several big games and studios are moving away from E3, so Cyberpunk 2077 may very well be able to take a big spotlight at the show. E3 starts on June 11th.

4. BioWare Updates Loot Systems in Anthem

Anthem players were upset with the loot in the game from the start and BioWare is hoping they can fix it. BioWare is changing inscriptions, level 30 drop tables, and masterwork crafting material requirements. Certain inscriptions were effectively useless, like increased physical damage on an elemental gun. Those will be removed. Uncommon and common loot is being removed from level 30 drop tables. Finally, it will only take 15 masterwork embers to create a masterwork instead of 25. These changes will go live either today or tomorrow.

5. ‘Season of the Drifter’ Brings Updates to Destiny 2

Bungie released a new video that outlines what players can expect from Season of the Drifter, Destiny 2’s sixth season. There will be a new version of Gambit called Gambit Prime, which offers a class-based experience with unique rewards. There’s also The Reckoning, which is a matchmade activity that brings players to The Plains of the Nine to fight against enemies. Watch the reveal ViDoc at the link below.

The three starting Pokémon were also revealed: the grass chimp Pokémon, Grookey, the fire rabbit Pokémon, Scarbunny, and the water lizard Pokémon, Sobble (all three pictured below). 2.Final Fortnite Season 8 Teaser

Fortnite season 8 officially starts tomorrow, which means today’s teaser will be the last one. The first two teasers showed a snake and then a dragon, both surrounded by fire. This morning’s teaser shows a volcano in the foreground but we’re more interested in the banana in the background. Banana? Banana. There is clearly some sort of fire and brimstone theme here, but we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see how a banana fits into things.

3. EVO 2019 Won’t Include Smash Bros. Melee

For the first time in over ten years, the biggest fighting tournament series won’t include Super Smash Bros. Melee. The Evolution Championship Series just announced the games lineup for EVO 2019 and they’ve chosen to include Super Smash Bros. Ultimate instead of Melee. EVO 2019 will also include Dragon Ball FighterZ, Tekken 7, Soulcalibur 6, and more. Check out the full lineup at the link below.

Ubisoft has just revealed their plans for the first year of post-launch content for The Division 2. This includes several free updates and a season pass. The free updates will add new specializations and story missions for everyone, but season pass owners will get early access and extra missions. There will also be a shop with cosmetic items that can be purchased directly. The Division 2’s open beta starts on March 1st and the game launches on March 15th.

1. New Overwatch Hero ‘Baptiste’ Revealed
Yesterday evening Blizzard revealed Overwatch’s next hero, Baptiste. Baptiste is a Haitian combat medic that has some awesome abilities. There are two ways for Baptiste to heal his allies. He can launch a grenade that heals allies near it and he can also use Regenerative Burst to heal allies near him over time. Baptiste also has an ability called Immortality Field, which temporarily prevents allies from dying. Finally, his ultimate is the Amplication Matrix would doubles the damage and healing of projectiles shot through it. Baptiste is currently available on the PTR.

2. First Major Red Dead Online Update Released

The first major update for Red Dead Online just went live today. It introduces Daily Challenges, a new rare shot, new emotes, and a range of new clothing items. There are also improvements to player visibility, Parley, and Feuds. Finally, the Law and Bounty system is now live. While this all sounds great, a lot of players are upset. The update seems to have cut earning potential for missions in half, while the prices for the new cosmetics feel through the rough. Basically, Rockstar wants your money and they’re not being bashful about it. Is anyone still playing Red Dead Online anyway?

3. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Update adds New Game Plus

New Game Plus is a growing feature in games. It lets you ‘restart’ the game but with all of your progress and unlocks carried over to the ‘new game.’ Today’s update brings New Game Plus to Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. You can now start again in Kephallonia as Alexios or Kassandra with all of your earned and unlocked gear, mounts, upgrades, abilities, crafting materials, and more. Today’s update also readdressed the Shadow Heritage DLC, fixing an issue that forced players into a heterosexual romance instead of letting them choose.

4. Kingdom Hearts Board Game Coming Out this Year

Talisman: Kingdom Hearts edition is now in development and will release this year. The Kingdom Hearts twist on the classic Talisman board game will be playable for between two and six players. According to an official press release Sora and the gang will work to “acquire the needed Strength and Magic to seal the Door to Darkness and keep Heartless from consuming the communal worlds.”

5. Several Overwatch Hero Changes on PTR Now

The Overwatch PTR update that introduces Baptiste also includes several nerfs and buffs for existing heroes, as well as some general changes. Armor will now reduce beam-type damage by 20% and will no longer reduce damage over time effects at all. Damage boosts now matter when a projectile is fired, not when it deals its damage. Knockback distance is more consistent, and you can now knockback and slow flying enemies. Check out the link below to read all of the nerfs and buffs to your favorite heroes. (Yay, Soldier 76 buffs!)

1. Fortnite Season 8 Coming Soon
Season 7 is coming to a close and everyone’s eyes are on Season 8. Now that the snow has melted, it looks like Season 8 may be a wet one with various bodies of water taking the focal point. You can expect a mix of all things aquatic, from fish to pirates and buried treasure. Planes are getting vaulted so perhaps we could see submarines, jet skis, or pirate ships as new vehicles to traverse the waterways. Of course, we're also eager to see what's going to happen with the mysterious eggs - perhaps an epic battle of sea creatures and sky dragons? Only time will tell, Season 8 is set to start on February 28.

2. The Division 2 Open Beta

Following its private beta a couple weeks ago, The Division 2 will have an open beta from March 1 - March 4. The open beta will have more content available than the private beta did, and will allow players to check out both early game and end game content. This is a great opportunity to try out the game and decide whether or not you want to purchase it once it officially releases on March 15.

3. Activision and EA CEOs Among Most Overpaid

A recent article found that Activision’s Bobby Kotic and EA’s Andrew Wilson are two of the most overpaid CEOs in America. Kotic’s salary is nearly $29M which is 306 times more than his average employee earns. Wilson earns even more, with his nearly $36M salary which is 371 times more than his average employee earns. Both Activision and EA have come under fire recently for firing many of their most valued staff members and producing worse quality games. This seems to make it pretty clear that they value profits over product.

4. Classic Resident Evil Games Coming to the Switch

In an homage to Resident Evil’s early partnership with Nintendo on the GameCube, Resident Evil 0, 1, and 4 are coming to the Switch. This is great news for Resident Evil fans who have shown that they’re just as interested in replaying the classic games as they are with a new game in the series. They likely won’t be remastered so the graphics will certainly look dated, but the gameplay will be as good as ever. The first of 3 games is set to come out on May 21.

5. Anthem 90-day Roadmap

Anthem got off to a rough start and BioWare knows it. The studio promises to improve the game and just released a 90-day roadmap detailing how they intend to do so. Aside from new items and missions, there will be 3 major in-world events which should spice up gameplay. BioWare is also focusing on developing end game content to keep players interested after they complete the core missions. The first event is set to start next week.

You can win your way to the finals by competing in the online qualifiers which will be held from April 13 to June 16. Each of these weekly qualifiers will have a $1M prize pool and the top competitors will advance their way to the finals. Good luck to all of you competitors!

3. FTC Addresses Loot Boxes

The Federal Trade Commissions is looking to tackle the growing problem of loot boxes in video games. FTC chairman Joseph Simon says that they “have remained vigilant for potential consumer protection issues,” and is planning a public workshop to address loot boxes later this year. Some countries have already enforced laws either forcing transparency about loot boxes and their odds, while other countries have banned loot boxes altogether. The United States could soon be following suit, but Simon says that the FTC will first explore options that don’t require law enforcement efforts.

4. Epic Exploring Fortnite Respawn System

In an effort to overthrow Apex Legends and once again become the biggest game in America, Fortnite is considering adding many of the features of Apex Legends. One of the most notable changes that may come in Season 8 is a respawn system. This is one of the most loved features in Apex Legends and one aspect that truly sets it apart from other battle royales. Epic is also looking to incorporate Apex’s ping system, which should help facilitate team communication. Season 8 looks like it will have some big changes for Fortnite, and it’s clear that Epic is trying to act as soon as possible before Apex Legends becomes unstoppable.

5. Fallout 76 Post-Launch Roadmap Revealed

Despite its poor reception on launch, Bethesda isn’t giving up on Fallout 76. The post-launch roadmap shows that they are pouring their resources into the game, bringing several new missions, items, and a new game mode called Survival. It’s good to see that Bethesda hasn’t given up on Fallout 76 yet; maybe these updates will be exactly what’s needed for the game to make a resurgence. The first update, Wild Appalachia, comes out on March 12.

1. Black Ops 4 Loot Boxes Cause Controversy
Cosmetic-based microtransactions are nothing new and the gaming community largely accepts that microtransactions can exist as long as they don’t affect gameplay. Nobody wants a pay-to-win game. Apparently the Black Ops 4 team didn’t get the memo; now they’ve locked the new specialists behind a loot box paywall. This goes directly against what their design director promised just a few months ago. It’s honestly disgusting that they would so blatantly lie to the community like this, and this will seriously make me reconsider ever buying another Call of Duty game again.

2. Hearthstone Giving Regular Players a Chance to Go Pro

Hearthstone is unveiling their brand new pro scene which is sure to bring excitement to high-level casual players. Rather than being invite-only or restricted to only the top legends, there will be 30 tournaments held each week that anybody of any rank can enter. The highest performing players will earn an invite to a Masters Tour event which has a guaranteed minimum prize pool of $250,000.

3. Space Engineers Finally Getting Full Release

After more than 5 years of early-access with over 200 updates, Space Engineers is finally getting its full release. Since its inception, Space Engineers has been critically acclaimed as one of the best physics-based, realistic sandbox games on the market. The developers say that along with their full release, they’re creating a survival mode which will add new layers to the game and make it much more of an experience than merely being a great sandbox game. The full release is scheduled for February 28.

4. Reggie Retires, Bowser Takes Over Nintendo

Reggie Fils-Aime, the beloved president of Nintendo, is retiring. Reggie has been one of the most prominent and recognizable faces in the gaming industry since he first joined Nintendo in 2003. Of course, all eras must come to an end and we wish Reggie a fantastic retirement. Perhaps even more interesting than Reggie’s retirement is the name of his successor: Bowser. I’m not making this up, Bowser is really taking over Nintendo. Doug Bowser to be precise. The shift will come in a couple months on April 15, hopefully Doug Bowser will be as great of a personality as Reggie is.

5. Embark Studios Unveil First Game

The former head of DICE, Patrick Söderlund, (responsible for classic titles such as Battlefield) left EA last summer to start a new gaming studio called Embark Studios. He just gave us a sneak-peak of their studio debut and the game looks absolutely phenomenal. It’s a co-op action game that requires teamwork to survive in a vast environment and overcome difficult challenges. It will also be completely free to play. Not only does the game sound incredible but it looks gorgeous, and will push visual limits to their max with things like dynamic weather and lighting. Just check out this picture below:

1. Apex Legends Gets its First New Gun
Apex Legends received its first new gun today! It’s a full-auto assault rifle called “Havoc” that uses energy ammo. Like the Devotion, it charges up and increases its rate of fire. It’s the first gun in the game that can use two different hop ups: the turbocharger and select fire. The turbocharger removes spin up time while the select fire allows you to shoot a powerful laser shot.

2. Steam Shutting Down Videos Section

Steam’s seldom-used Videos section is being retired. Steam has scrapped its non-gaming related video market in order to focus entirely on gaming. There will still be gaming videos available but they will only be accessible through searches and recommendations. If you have previously purchased any movies or other non-gaming videos on Steam, all of your previous purchases will still be available to you.

3. Rocket League Launches Cross-Platform Parties

With the start of Season 10, Rocket League has launched their new party system which will allow players from any platform to party up and game with each other. As much as console giants have tried to prevent it, it’s clear that crossplay is the future of gaming. Rocket League’s successful cross-platform launch should help facilitate the process for future games to follow suit and unite gamers across all platforms.

4. Paradox Launching Modding Platform

Paradox is partnering with Microsoft to launch their new “Paradox Mods.” Modding games has historically been restricted to PC players so this is a huge step for console gaming as it will allow Xbox One players to use mods. Right now the platform has about 30 Xbox One mods for Surviving Mars, but it will likely add more for other Paradox games such as Cities:Skylines. Let’s hope that other developers will follow Paradox’s lead and start bringing mods to console.

5. Red Dead Online Getting Major Update

Red Dead Online is getting a major update next week which will introduce new clothing, weapons, and a new game mode called “Fool’s Gold.” In Fool’s Gold players will be hunting down a set of golden armor and attempt to kill enemies while wearing it to increase their score. Although Red Dead Online is starting to receive substantial attention from Rockstar, it will still remain in beta for the foreseeable future. The update is scheduled to come out on PS4 on February 26 and Xbox shortly after.

1. Black Ops 4: Operation Grand Heist Roadmap Revealed
The roadmap for Black Ops 4’s brand new season “Operation Grand Heist” has been revealed. It will add new modes and weapons, western-themed areas to the Blackout map, and a new specialist named Outrider. Much to the delight of fans, they’re also bringing back a favorite game mode: One in the Chamber. Grand Heist is live on PS4 today, and will come to other platforms next week.

2. Google is Joining the Gaming Market

There has been a lot of buzz surrounding Google’s upcoming keynote speech at GDC next month. Although it may seem that Google is just making yet another streaming platform, what have in store is likely much more special. It’s just speculation, but it looks like Google is trying to develop a way to make console games playable from anywhere. This means that you could play all your favorite console games straight from your mobile phone. If this is true it would be revolutionary, so I can't wait to hear more details about it next month.

3. Epic Games Suing Organizers of Fortnite Festival

A U.K. festival promised to be the Fortnite event of the year went disastrously wrong. Now Epic Games is suing them. Nearly 3,000 people showed up to the festival and waited in line for over 2 hours only to find out that there was nothing inside. Despite branding it as a Fortnite event, there was nothing Fortnite related at the event, and it seems they were using Fortnite’s brand and logo without Epic’s permission. Epic Games has been the recipient of a lot of lawsuits this past year, this time they’re the ones doing the suing.

4. Anthem Addressing Major Bugs Before Official Release

Although Anthem technically isn’t out until February 22, many players have been able to enjoy the game through EA’s Origin Access Premier. It’s a good thing too, because it seems like Anthem still had a lot of things to fix before releasing to the general public. Some of the most common bugs were invisible enemies, vanishing audio, and constant crashes. The developers promise that they’ll have all these issues fixed by the time it officially launches later this week.

5. Ghost Recon Wildlands is Getting its Final Update for Year 2

Ghost Recon Wildlands is getting a brand new PvE mode with its final update for year 2: Special Operation 4. Although there’s not a lot of info about it yet, the creators assure that it will “test your endurance.” It’s good to see Wildlands adding a solid PvE mode, as this should satisfy fans until the next game in the Ghost Recon series comes out. Special Operations 4 should be released later this month, with a planned release date of February 27.

1. Moot Points Episode 42: How to win in Apex Legends!

We couldn't help ourselves, so we went ahead and did another entire episode focused on Apex Legends! We talk about our favorite Legends to play, places to drop, and gun combos to use. We also include a couple nice tips that should help you become Champion!

2. Fortnite is Currently Plagued by Earthquakes

Remember Fortnite? Well, because you’ve been playing Apex Legends for the last couple weeks, we figured we’d help you get caught up with everything happening in Fortnite. Currently, earthquakes are shaking Fortnite’s map and leaving behind cracks in the ground. We don’t yet know the source of the earthquakes and we don’t know what things are building up to, but expect to find out when Season 8 launches next month.

3. Anthem is now Live for EA Origin Access Members

Anthem is now live on Origin Access Premier. If you’re a member, you’re all set to get into the game and start playing. If you’re not a part of Origin Access, you’ll have to wait until a week from today to play. Specifically, Anthem will be live at 9 pm Pacific Time on February 21st. It will be interesting to see how the success of one EA game, Apex Legends, affects the release of Anthem. Honestly, we forgot Anthem even existed once we got our hands on Apex Legends.

4. Ubisoft Reveals Names of Next Two Operators in Rainbow Six Siege

We already knew the next two operators coming to Rainbow Six Siege were Aussies, but we now know their names. Gridlock is a farm girl from Central Queensland who uses Trax Stringers to help her team control their surroundings. Mozzie, the other new operator, uses a crossbow-deployed “Pest” to hamper the attacking team’s attempts to gather intel. The full Operation Burnt Horizon will be revealed during the Six Invitational this weekend.

1. Apex Legends Beats Fortnite on Twitch for 10 Days in a Row
First of all, if you haven’t played Apex Legends yet shame on you! The game is free to play on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 4. Apex Legends is not only incredibly fun to play, but it is also incredibly fun to watch. So fun to watch, in fact, that the game has beaten Fortnite in Twitch viewership for 10 straight days. Since the game’s launch, Apex Legends is growing in viewership numbers every day which is an amazing sign. If you’re looking for teammates to play with or some nice tips and tricks to play better, head over to the Apex Legends lounge here on Moot now!

2. Fortnite Patch v7.40 Introduces Infantry Rifle

It feels like forever since Fortnite added a new gun, but maybe that’s just because we’ve been playing Apex Legends instead of paying attention. Epic Games introduced patch v7.40 today which brings the Infantry Rifle to the game. The Infantry Rifle is like an assault rifle/hunting rifle combo; it is a semi-automatic weapon that is high accuracy and high damage. The patch also changed disguise bushes; they will now absorb one instance of damage.

3. Hollow Knight Sequel Announced

Hollow Knight is certainly one of the most satisfying and beautiful games released in the last few years. The platform is beautiful in all respects; the music, the art, and the gameplay will all leave you speechless. Team Cherry hit us this morning with the amazing news that they’re working on a full-blown sequel called Hollow Knight: Silksong. The new game will feature Hornet as the main character, which is pretty sweet. We’ll get to explore new places, face new enemies, and solve new puzzles. We couldn’t be more excited!

4. Tetris Battle Royale named ‘Tetris 99’ now Available on Switch

During yesterday’s Nintendo Direct several exciting things were announced, but perhaps none are more exciting than Tetris 99. Tetris 99 is the battle royale we never knew we wanted or needed; in Tetris 99, you’ll compete against 98 other players. When you complete a line it will cause blocks to fill up your opponents’ screens. Eventually the field will dwindle until only one remains, the ultimate champion.

5. Fortnite Season 8 Battle Pass can be Free

You can get the battle pass for Fortnite’s upcoming Season 8 if you complete all the overtime challenges. You will have almost two weeks to complete your challenges. Five overtime challenges are available today and more will be available to complete until Feburary 27th. The challenges seem to be relatively easy to accomplish, so hopefully everyone who wants to grind for the free battle pass will be able to earn it before the 27th.

1. Apex Legends Patch Brings Valentine’s Day Items and Bug Fixes
The first patch for Apex Legends goes live today, bringing some much-needed bug fixes. The patch also introduces some Valentine’s Day cosmetics to the store, which will be available tonight at 6pm PST. There is also the Live Die Live Banner Badge, which you can get if you revive a member of your squad between today and February 19th. If you need teammates to squad up with, head on over to the Apex Legends lounge here on Moot!

2. Nintendo Direct Happening this Afternoon

There will be a Nintendo Direct happening this afternoon where Nintendo will share some of their plans for 2019. This has actually been the longest time between Directs, with the last one airing on November 1st last year. The focus will probably be on games coming to the Switch, both in the form of new releases and game ports from other systems. There may also be information about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, like new fighters coming in the form of DLC. Tune into Nintendo’s website at 2pm to watch the direct and see for yourself!

3. Rainbow Six Siege is Free This Weekend

Starting tomorrow, you can play Rainbow Six Siege for free on all platforms through Sunday. If you decide you like the game enough, you can buy it on sale and even keep your progress you made during the free trial. During the free trial you will have access to all maps and game modes to truly test the game. Ubisoft recently readjusted prices for all versions of Rainbow Six Siege, making the game more affordable than ever.

4. Blizzard Says There are no Major Games Planned for 2019

It’s been an interesting couple days for those following Activision-Blizzard. Yesterday, the company announced last year’s record sales numbers. Then, they fired hundreds of employees. Now, Blizzard Entertainment has announced they won’t be releasing any ‘frontline’ games this year. Hopefully this means they’ll be reinvesting in existing titles, but with them pulling developers away from Heroes of the Storm it seems like we’re getting mixed signals.

5. Next Call of Duty Game will have a Campaign

There were two notable aspects of Black Ops 4; the first was the inclusion of a battle royale mode and the second was the exclusion of a single player campaign. Activision confirmed this year’s Call of Duty game will include “an entirely new campaign,” plus multiplayer and co-op game modes. This year’s Call of Duty is coming from Infinity Ward, the developers who made Call of Duty, Call of Duty 2, Infinity Warfare, Ghosts, and the Modern Warfare trilogy.

1. Apex Legends hits 25 Million Players
After just a single WEEK on the market, Apex Legends has reached over 25 million players! This game is truly something special; the servers are stable, the Legends and weapons feel relatively balanced, and the gameplay is genuinely exciting. There will be some new cosmetics this week to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Also, this afternoon there is the Twitch Rivals tournament where some of Twitch’s biggest streamers will compete to win the lion's share of $50,000 USD. If you need teammates or advice for Apex Legends head on over to the game’s lounge here on Moot.

2. Rocket League Cross-Play Parties Coming Next Week

This feature in Rocket League has been highly requested for a long time and it is apparently going to arrive next week. We say apparently because Psyonix has pushed back the release of cross-play parties several times over the last year. The update also comes with a friends list, where you can add friends regardless of platform. The Friends Update comes to Rocket League on February 19th.

3. The Division 2 Open Beta Starts March 1st

You’ll have one last chance to try The Division 2 before it releases on March 15th. Starting on March 1st, there will be an open beta for the game that will last 3 days. We don’t know whether there will be fresh content in the open beta beyond the missions included in last week’s private beta. In the private beta there were two main missions, five side missions, and a Dark Zone. The Division 2 is releasing on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

4. Civilization 6 is Free on Steam This Week

The Civilization series is seriously awesome. You can get completely lost in one of these turn-based strategy games. If you want to try out Civilization 6, you can play the game for free on Steam this week to celebrate the impending release of the game’s Gathering Storm expansion. Gathering Storm is introducing weather to the equation alongside some other cool new features. The game is also 70% off this week. Gathering Storm launches on February 14th.

5. Upcoming Red Dead Online Update will introduce Anti-Griefing Measures

Red Dead Online will get an update in a couple weeks that aims to reduce griefing amongst players. Player blips will be hidden on the map unless you’re within 150 meters of another player or firing your gun. Additionally, aggressive players will have their blips darkened in color so others can know they may be a danger. There is also a new Law and Order system where criminal acts will lead to a bounty. Read more about the update at the link below.

1. Apex Legends was the Top Game on Twitch Last Week
Since Apex Legends surprise released last Monday, it has consistently been the top game on Twitch. Apex Legends averaged 183,089 viewers last week, which is significantly more than Fortnite’s average viewer count of 115,947. While some of this can be attributed to the excitement of a new game, it also speaks to the quality of Apex Legends; the game is both fun to play and watch. Apex Legends is free-to-play, on PC and console, and there’s an awesome lounge for it here on Moot for all your teamfinding and discussion needs. Check it out!

2. Big H1Z1 Update for PS4 Introduces Free-for-all Deathmatch

H1Z1 has been steadily plugging along as a medium-popularity battle royale for a few years now. Last year, the game launched for free on PlayStation 4 to try and take some players away from Fortnite and other competitors. A new update is rolling out for the game on February 21st that will introduce 2 new game modes. The first, free-for-all deathmatch, will put 50 players against each other in a small combat zone in a race to get 25 kills. The second is called Training Grounds and will provide players will a chance to practice with all of the game’s weapons.

3. Dota 2’s ‘Auto Chess’ Mode Causes Playerbase Spike

Dota 2 is experiencing a bit of a resurgence in the last few weeks, largely due to a user-created custom game mode called Auto Chess. Auto Chess has players fighting across an 8x8 field, like a chessboard, in a way that emphasizes strategic choices over actions per minute. Blizzard’s announcement that they are effectively ending support for Heroes of the Storm can also be a contributing factor toward Dota 2’s increase, as MOBA fans may be shifting their focus to a game that isn’t being abandoned by its developers.

4. Ubisoft Reveals New Map for Operation Burnt Horizon

This morning Ubisoft revealed the map for Operation Burnt Horizon, which is set in the Australian outback and set to be fully revealed this weekend. The new map is an abandoned service station in the middle of the Austrlian outback and is fittingly called ‘Outback.’ The Rainbow Six team is at this particular station “because of a nuclear convey that fell under stack while it was passing by.” The map and the rest of Operation Burnt Horizon will be fully revealed during the Six Invitational stream this weekend.

5. Activision-Blizzard is Reportedly Planning Massive Layoffs

Activision-Blizzard has been struggling a bit lately and the company may be planning some big employee layoffs soon. Numbers for big titles like Hearthstone and Overwatch have been flat or declining and the company just split off from Bungie, who took the Destiny franchise with them. Apparently, most of the layoffs will be in non-game development departments like marketing and sales.

Good afternoon Apex Mootgends! In this week's episode of Moot Points the guys talk about the hottest new kid on the block, Apex Legends! Learn a bit about the game and let us tell you what exactly makes it sweet.

2. Apex Legends Hits 10 Million Players, 1 Million Concurrent

It took only three days for Apex Legends to hit 10 million unique players. The game also reached 1 million concurrent players last night, which is a tremendous achievement. These numbers would not be possible so fast if they game wasn’t free-to-play, which was a tough choice for Respawn to make. But, according to letter linked below, they knew they had an amazing game and they needed as many people as possible to experience it. If you need some teammates for Apex Legends head on over to the Apex Legends lounge here on Moot!

3. Aussie Operators Coming to Rainbow 6 in Operation Burnt Horizon

While it has been a rumor for some time now, Ubisoft finally confirmed this morning that the next Operation in Rainbow Six Siege will take us to the wonderful land down under. The new operators for the game are members of the Special Air Service Regiment, a unit in the Australian Army similar to the British SAS. Ubisoft will fully unveil Operation Burnt Horizon on February 17th during the Six Invitational in Montreal.

4. Monster Hunter: World’s Witcher 3 Crossover Event is Live

The collaborative event for Monster Hunter: World that brings Geralt of Rivia to the game is now live. Players who have reached Hunter Rank 16 can access a quest line that sends them on a mission to kill Leshen using Geralt’s special weapons and abilities. Next week, another event will start for Hunters over Rank 50. Next week’s event will be a multiplayer one that sends your group after the Anchient Leshen.

5. PUBG is Steam’s 2018 Game of the Year

Valve announced the winners of the 2018 Steam Awards today and PUBG claimed the coveted Game of the Year Title. 1. Apex Legends ‘Twitch Rivals’ Tournament Starts Next Week
Twitch is bringing the iconic Twitch Rivals tournament series to Apex Legends, the new battle royale game on the proverbial block. Apex Legends is free-to-play, available on most major platforms (sorry Switch players), and genuinely fun to play. Most streamers you see are better than your average gamer, so it will be nice to see them pitted against each other. The tournament will feature 16 squads of 3, meaning there will be only 48 players in each match instead of the usual 60. So far, DrDisrespect, Shroud, and TSM_Myth are among the confirmed list of streamers for the event. Check out the Apex Legends lounge here on Moot for all your teamfinding and discussion needs!

2. Fortnite ‘Share the Love’ Event Starts Tomorrow

Epic just announced the Share the Love event for Fortnite, which starts tomorrow and will run until February 27th. The event features some new cosmetics, two double XP weekends, and a competitive series. Placement matches for the Share the Love competitive series will take place this weekend, and the next two weekends will be the double XP ones. Interestingly, Epic mentions the event will end “right before the arrival of Season 8” which means there will be a two-week long delay between the end of Season 7 and the start of Season 8.

3. GTA V Cheat Maker Must Pay $150,000 USD to Rockstar

A judge has ruled the creator of a GTA V cheat must pay Rockstar $150,000 USD, the maximum amount possible for copyright infringement damages. This is potentially the highest damages amount ever awarded in a game cheating lawsuit. The cheat, known as Elusive, apparently created new features in the game that damaged the online experience of other players. Rockstar sought maximum damages both because they estimated tremendous losses due to the cheat but also to set an example for would-be cheat creators.

4. Astroneer Launches out of Early Access

After two years in Early Access the space survival sandbox game Astroneer has officially launched. Astroneer is a co-op focused game but you can also play by yourself. From the limited exposure we’ve had to the game here at Moot, it definitely looks sweet. And unlike some games, just because Astroneer is now officially released does not mean it won’t keep getting better; the developers will be introducing cross-play and eight-player co-op in the future.

5. Elder Scrolls Online Plus will be Free for a Few Days

Elder Scrolls Online is a sweet MMORPG that moved away from mandatory subscriptions back in 2015. Since then, players who purchased the base game could always play for free but players who wanted to experience the DLCs needed to participate in the ESO Plus program. Starting today and running until February 12th, ESO Plus will be free to try for ESO players. Finally, us cheapos can see what we’ve been missing out on.

1.Apex Legends Hits 2.5 Million Players in first 24 Hours
Okay, so you may have heard of this game by now. But it’s soooorrtta great and its definitely blowing up. The game is blowing up so much so, in fact, that it actually hit 2.5 million players in its first 24 hours. We’re big fans of Apex Legends here at Moot and we have an AWESOME lounge for the game. Head on over to the Apex Legends lounge to see how much Mooties like you are enjoying the game. You can also find teammates on Moot, which is great because Apex Legends forces you to play squads.

2. Sea of Thieves Free Trial Starts This Week

Sea of Thieves has experienced a resurgence over the last month. This has been the result of several free content expansions and renewed attention from popular Twitch streamers like Summit1G. Starting today, Sea of Thieves owners and Xbox Game Pass subscribers will be able to invite up to 3 friends to play for free. There is also some new limited content that seems to act as a bit of a welcome mission for these new players to complete alongside their trusty guides.

3. EA is Disappointed in Battlefield 5 Sales

Well, that’s quite a surprising headline; EA has the self-awareness to recognize one of their games is failing? Astonishing! In all seriousness, EA acknowledged their failure to meet expectations with Battlefield 5 in a conference call yesterday. Perhaps it is because the game’s battle royale mode STILL isn’t out, even though the game released multiple months? Maybe it’s because the maps and single player content are seriously underwhelming? Who knows; we’re all too busy playing other games, like Apex Legends.

4. New Titanfall Game Coming this Year, NOT Titanfall 3

So Titanfall fans have had a confusing week. Respawn released an amazing new free-to-play battle royale game called Apex Legends on Monday. On Tuesday, Respawn confirmed they are not developing Titanfall 3; however, later on Tuesday EA CEO talked about how they plan to release a “premium game this year that is a new twist on the Titanfall universe.” So we know it will be a paid game, unlike Apex Legends, but beyond that is anyone’s guess.

5. Assassin’s Creed 3 Remaster Coming Out Next Month

Ubisoft announced the release date for the Assassin’s Creed 3 remaster this morning. The game will launch on March 29th. Assassin’s Creed 3 had lots of potential, but the game didn’t necessarily live up to it. Hopefully, the remastered edition can fix most of the problems from the original game. Based on the trailer Ubisoft released today, we’re cautiously optimistic.

1. Apex Legends hits 1 Million Players in 8 Hours
Apex Legends may be the smoothest game launch we’ve seen in recent memory. While there were whispers of this game among industry insiders, many gamers were caught by surprise when Respawn announced their new battle royale yesterday. Within 8 hours, the game had drawn in over 1 million players. That isn’t surprising, as Apex Legends is both free-to-play AND on multiple platforms. You can play Apex Legends for free on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Also, check out the Apex Legends lounge here on Moot to find the best teammates!

2. Fortnite patch v7.30 is Live now, Adds Bottle Rockets

A new patch is live today in Fortnite, bringing with it some basic changes and a new item! The new item is the Bottle Rocket, which can be used to call a mini-airstrike on an area. Throw the Bottle Rocket toward a location and it will soon call down a barrage of rockets that damage players and buildings. The patch also introduces the new environmental campfires; you can light campfires around the map to heal up, although these campfires can be used only once per match. Finally, patch v7.30 vaults the Boombox.

3. List of Changes to Anthem from Demo to Live Game

The Anthem public beta was a smashing success last week, at least according to EA. Unlike the VIP demo the weekend before, the servers generally ran smooth as many got to test Anthem for the first time. Anthem is set to release in just a couple weeks, and Polygon summarized a list of key changes to the live version of the game. We are most excited about the social hub and updated performance that will be in the game when it goes live. Check out the full list of changes to Anthem in the article below.

4. Kingdom Hearts 3 Sells Over 5 Million Copies

Kingdom Hearts 3 is now officially the fastest selling game in Kingdom Hearts history. Square Enix reported the new game has sold over 5 million copies globally. It’s no surprise the game is selling quick, as players waited so long for a new Kingdom Hearts game and the new one looks great. Kingdom Hearts 3 features several Disney characters like Donald Duck and Goofy alongside the main hero Sora. Kingdom Hearts 3 is available now on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

5. Cross-Play and Battle Passes are Coming to Apex Legends

Have you heard of Apex Legends yet? We’d assume so, both because it is currently blowing up and because it is today’s top story. Respawn posted a roadmap for the game’s first year of development. In the road map, the main emphasis is on battle passes; there will 4 different battle passes this year, with the first one starting up next month. Each battle pass includes free items, like new Legends, and exclusive cosmetics. Respawn also mentioned they are working on cross-play, but they admitted progress and purchases won’t transfer across platforms.
