With the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 beta starting later this week the studio behind the game felt it was the perfect time for another multiplayer trailer. The trailer showed teams of players, suggesting a squads game mode. It also showed what looked like highly customized outfits. There will be a beta for Blackout in September.
3. Guided Missiles Coming Back to Fortnite
The Guided Missile was highly controversial during its short time in Fortnite’s battle royale. It only lasted a couple weeks before going to the vault, but the explosive weapon will be making a return soon. The new and improved Guided Missile is nerfed in several respects, but it will hopefully still be fun to use. The new Guided Missile will move slower, turn slower, do less damage, and have a smaller damage radius.

POPULAR The Daily Moot (7/26/18)
1. Fortnite Hotfix Nerfs Compact SMG
Epic Games introduced the Compact SMG to their battle royale mode earlier this week and it made an instant splash. The SMG, based on the P90, quickly came to dominate all fights and was declared overpowered by the vast majority of the community. The new weapon was perhaps poorly timed, as it came out at the same time as the new building nerfs which weakened the starting health of wooden walls. The Compact SMG will now do slightly less damage and it has a reduced fire rate.
2. Destiny 2: Forsaken Trailer Shows off New Exotics
A new trailer for the Forsaken expansion came out today and it showcases some of the exotics that will be coming to the game in September. Check the trailer in the below article to see all the new weapons for yourself.
3. Forza Motorsport 7 to Remove Free Loot Boxes by Year’s End
Forza Motorsport 7 is a game that seems like it wouldn’t need loot boxes but has them anyway. Although the loot box system in the game is all free, players were still ultimately unhappy with the system and the studio has said they’ll be removing the crates by the end of the year. The crates aren’t being removed right away because the studio needs time to work out what exactly will be replacing the crates, as they were the main way for players to gain access to driver gear, mods, and badges.

World of Warcraft expansions are incredibly exciting times and we are quickly approaching Battle for Azeroth’s release. While the new expansion releases on August 14th, it will be three weeks before the first raid actually opens up. This is to provide players ample time to level and gear up before they race to be the first ones to kill things. If it wasn’t for the three-week buffer period, we would see some incredibly unhealthy habits from the most competitive players. The new raid is called Uldir and it opens up on September 11th.
3. Fortnite may be Getting a Wall-Piercing Sniper Rifle
While nothing is confirmed, several Fortnite leakers are reporting on the next weapon coming to battle royale and it is intimidating to say the least. The Heavy Sniper Rifle will apparently be able to penetrate the first wall it hits. This will provide players will even more tools to use against strong builders, which has been a controversial topic among Fortnite players recently. If these leaks are true, the Heavy Sniper Rifle could come as early as next week.
4. No Man’s Sky Hits 40,000 Concurrent Players with NEXT Update
If you asked us a few months ago we would’ve told you No Man’s Sky was a dead and gone game. Luckily for fans of the series, we may have been wrong. The studio behind the game is seriously focused on improving the experience they provide their players, and NEXT was a huge step in the right direction. The update introduced multiplayer, a highly requested feature, among several other improvements. 40,000 concurrent players may not seem like a lot when compared to PUBG at its peak, but it is twice as many players as No Man’s Sky’s last expansion brought in.

The adorable hamster in a spherical mech is finally available on Overwatch’s public servers after a few weeks on the test realm. We can expect the drop rates to stay the same in the future and Psyonix has promised they’ll post about any changes as they’re implemented.
5. Fortnite’s Playground Mode Returns on Wednesday

4. Hearthstone is Getting Another Crazy Legendary Minion
Hearthstone expansions usually have 1 or 2 wacky legendaries. These cards frequently have highly random effects that, while not competitively viable, are usually tons of fun to play with. You don’t know what class or archetype you’ll be playing as until you’re already in game. Whizbang the Wonderful, and the rest of the Boomsday expansion, will be available August 21st.

3. Bowser Jr. is Getting Nerfed in Mario Tennis Aces
Fans of Mario Tennis Aces share at least two things in common. First is their mutual appreciate for the game and second is a communal hatred of Bowser Jr. Bowser Jr has been the strongest character in the popular tennis game since it released, and Nintendo is finally doing something about it. Bowser Jr. is getting slowed down significantly plus his return shot is getting weaker. Nintendo said they will continue tuning the balance between characters in the lead up to the big online tournament set to take place in August.

3. PUBG Custom Matches in Beta, Free for Now
After promising custom matches for a long time, PUBG Corp has finally brought them to their test servers in an open beta. The hype may be short-lived, however, as the developer has said they may need to eventually put custom matches behind a paywall so the system can ‘remain sustainable long-term.’ In our opinion, putting custom matches behind a paywall sounds like a terrible business idea and would set PUBG even further behind Fortnite. What do you think?

The Daily Moot (7/16/18)
1. First Fortnite Summer Skirmish was a Big Failure
Fans of watching competitive Fortnite were disappointed this weekend, as the first installment of Summer Skirmish was riddled with lag issues. The game took place online, instead of on LAN, and Fortnite’s servers were uncooperative. Unpredictable lag issues meant most players decided to play safe instead of risking dying due to lag. The event was supposed to run for 10 matches but it was called early after only 4. We will see how Epic Games chooses to change the event to address these issues by next week.

We will need to wait and see whether this is a temporary change until players get bored of the new system, but for now things are looking great.

Battlefield 5 is available on October 11th for Original Access subscribers, October 16th for Deluxe editions owners, and October 19th for everyone else.
5. Octopath Traveler Sells Out of Physical Copies
It seems Square Enix underestimated the demand for their recent JRPG game Octopath Traveler, as gamers are having a hard time buying a physical copy of the game. The company issued an apology on their twitter account that also reminder players they could buy the game straight to download if they didn’t mind owning it digitally. Octopath Traverl has received praise for its unique art style and inspired combat.

1. New Battle Royale ‘The Culling 2’ Releases Today
The Culling, which released in early access in 2016, was one of the original battle royale games. While it wasn’t incredibly popular, the sequel may stand a better chance of success now that the genre is so mainstream. The Culling 2 will drop 50 players instead of the usual 100 into each game. It also will only cost $20 dollars, which is $10 cheaper than PUBG and infinitely more expensive than Fortnite. We’ll see over the next few days how streamers like the game and if it will have much relevancy in the scene moving forward.

3. Procedurally-generated Metroidvania ‘Chasm’ Arriving July 31st
Procedurally-generated games were super hyped up a few years ago, and now another one is finally coming to market. Chasm is a Metroidvania game, which is a style of platformer. In Chasm the sequence of rooms the player encounters as they play through the game will be different each time. In other words, the rooms themselves aren’t procedurally generated, but the order the player sees them is. But there are also Fortnite items spawning in the real world! Last week, a hamburger disappeared from the game and appeared in California. Now, Fortnite llamas are sprouting up across Europe. Whatever season 5 is going to be, we won’t have to wait much longer as it comes out on July 12th.

In a recent interview, a Ubisoft executive claimed that this may not be the case in future games. New technologies will enable the games to include multiple zones, meaning players could visit several different time periods in the same game. This may also apply to other Ubisoft games, meaning future Far Cry games may have different countries in the same game.

3. Fallout 76 Will not have Cross-Console Because of Sony
Fallout 76 is an online multiplayer game which seems like a natural fit for cross-platform play. Todd Howard, the Bethesda Game Studios director, has said recently that Sony is doing exactly that. As games like Rocket League and Fortnite have demonstrated, people like to play with their friends. It is a shame we won’t be able to do that in Fallout 76.

2. Sony Considering Giving Fans Universal Cross-Platform Play
While it is usually Nintendo being overly protective regarding cross-platform play, lately it has been Sony in the news for restricting their player base. Many games on PlayStation 4 let you play with your friends on PC, but Sony does not let PS4 owners play with their friends on Microsoft or Nintendo platforms. While this has been true for a while now with games like Rocket League, it has come to the forefront now because of Fortnite. A Sony execute recently claimed they are “looking at a lot of possibilities” and will come to a solution that “will be understood and accepted by [their] gaming community.” Will PS4 players accept anything short of complete cross-platform access? We hope not.

The grips will be ready for consumers in November by pledging either $12 or $24 on Kickstarter to receive either one or two grips, respectively.
