POPULAR The Daily Moot (10/24/18)

1. Battlefield V Won’t Have Battle Royale Until Next Year
Congratulations to Treyarch and all Black Ops 4 fans, you’ve officially won. EA revealed this morning that Battlefield WILL NOT include Firestorm, the game’s battle royale mode, until March of next year. Some misleading advertising and poorly time trailers led many players to expect Firestorm to launch alongside the main game, but that has never been the case. How EA could think delaying Firestorm until MARCH OF NEXT YEAR is a good idea is beyond us. The only thing that makes sense is the game mode still needs a lot of work and it wouldn’t be ready any earlier. Rest in Peace Battlefield 5, 2018-2018.

2. Fortnitemares Begins as Halloween Quickly Approaches

A new patch to Fortnite this morning introduced Fortnitemares, the game’s Halloween-themed event. In a new limited time event, players will have to fight off monsters in the game’s battle royale mode. This strongly resembles Save the World, Fortnite’s original PVE mode. The crossbow has returned, alongside the new Six Shooter, to help players fight off the monsters. This patch also introduces glider re-deploy to all game modes.

3. Fallout: New California Mod is Finally Available for Fallout: New Vegas

Fallout New California is a massive Fallout mod for New Vegas that has been in development for around seven years. Now, the mod is finally available to the public. In New California you’ll play as a kid from Vault 18, which has remained a secret vault hidden high in the San Bernardino Mountains. If you’re interested in getting your Fallout fix before Fallout 76 releases, you should seriously consider New California. There’s a narrative trailer included in the article below so you can learn more about the game’s unique storyline.

4. Control Your Own Camera During the Overwatch World Cup

Blizzard is going to test letting viewers control their own camera during the Overwatch World Cup. You’ll be able to watch via the Battle.net client and have complete access to all the camera tools the Overwatch League camera operators have. You can control the camera, switch between first and third-person views, and choose which players to watch. Hopefully this feature will be fully available by the time the Overwatch League’s second season rolls around.

1. Epic Adds Glider Re-deploy to All Game Modes
In a completely unexpected announcement, Epic Games has announced they will be enabling glider re-deploy in all game modes as part of a test. This test will last a week, which means for the next week whether you’re playing Solo, Duos, or Squads you will be able to deploy your glider if you are falling from at least three stories high. How do you feel about this change? End of the world? Best thing ever? Just another Tuesday? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

2. Fallout 76 Will Have a Battle Royale-esque Game Mode

Bethesda has outlined how PVP will function in Fallout 76 and one of the ways to play sounds a lot like a battle royale mode. General PVP in Fallout 76 will be possible only if both players demonstrate their willingness to fight by hitting each other with direct shots. The more exciting way to PVP though is the new Hunter/Hunted Radio station, where four or more players will play a game of cat and mouse. Each player will be assigned another as their target, so you must hunt while also being hunted. Last Hunter standing wins. Oh, also the safe zone decreases over time. Sound familiar?

3. No Man’s Sky Unveils Halloween Event Called ‘The Abyss’

Although No Man’s Sky was originally poorly received, the team behind the game has worked hard to improve their image with No Man’s Sky NEXT. Since NEXT launched a few months ago, the game has seen several free content updates. The next one on the list is The Abyss, which “focuses on some of the eerier elements of No Man’s Sky” to celebrate Halloween. The free update releases next week for all players. Let us know if you’re still playing No Man’s Sky and if you’re enjoying the game since NEXT came out!

5. Hunt: Showdown’s New Map Will be Playable at TwitchCon

Hunt: Showdown is an early access title with an incredibly unique feel. The game originally released with one map set in a dark, murky swamp. Although the game is still in early access, developer Crytek has begun teasing a new map. The new map, now titled Lawson Delta, is a stark contrast from the original. For starters, it is set in daytime. Crytek also said they developed this map according to player feedback about the first map, and they claim it creates a much more natural environment for the game’s action to take place in. If you can’t test Lawson Delta at TwitchCon, fret not for Crytek assures us it will be out very soon.

1. Red Dead Redemption 2 Gameplay and Map Leak
Finally, there have been some leaks for Red Dead Redemption 2, which comes to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 this Friday. 2. Fortnite’s Floating Island is Acting Weird, Building up to Halloween Event

As of yesterday, Fortnite’s floating island returned to its original location above Loot Lake. Now, the island appears to be summoning something above it. This is most likely related to the recently teased Halloween event coming to Fortnite called Fortnitemares. Last year’s Halloween event started on October 26th so we can expect things to kick off this week if the same schedule is followed. What do you guys expect out of Fortnitemares? A new game mode, new weapons, or something else entirely?

3. Save the World Won’t be Free This Year

Although Epic Games originally promised their PVE mode, Save the World, would eventually be free before the year’s end, they have decided to move Save the World’s free to play launch to next year. Apparently, it is taking a lot to prepare for the influx that will come from a free to play launch and Epic Games has decided the best thing to do is delay. To compensate players who were holding out for free to play by the end of the year, Save the World is 50% off this week.

4. 16-Year-Old is the New Tetris World Champion

The Classic Tetris World Championship took place in Portland, OR this weekend and 16-year-old Joseph Saelee walked away the champion. He defeated in the finals seven-time winner Jonas Neubauer. 5. Valve’s Card Game ‘Artifact’ Public Beta Delayed

The beta is now expected to release on November 19, slightly more than a week before the game’s official launch on November 28. The beta will remain invitation-only, meaning that there will be no open beta prior to the game’s full launch at its retail price of $19.99.

Agony Unrated says it will release on October 31st, but there’s been no word or announcement from the game studio.

2. Big Nerfs Come to Hearthstone’s Most Annoying Cards

Blizzard announced this morning three cards they will be nerfing later this week. The biggest nerf is to Giggling Inventor, which will now cost 7 mana instead of 5. A two mana increase is an absolutely massive nerf in Hearthstone, so we will have to see if anyone plays this card any more. Mana Wyrm almost surprisingly got nerfed, with a cost increase from 1 to 2. This should open the door for some good, cheap mage spells in the future. Finally, Aviana got her cost increased from 9 to 10 to weaken the strength of Druid in the Wild format.

3. New Trailer for Destiny 2’s ‘Festival of the Lost’ Event

2. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Launches Today

It is finally here, Mootios and Mootettes. The next Call of Duty game and hopeful Fortnite-killer is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Treyarch has taken some big risks with Black Ops 4, most notably by choosing not to include a single player campaign. Flare Guns were introduced in a limited-time mode earlier this year and have been tremendously popular ever since. For the unaware, Flare Guns in PUBG can be shot into the air to summon a special air drop. If the Flare Gun is fired inside the safe zone, a care package arrives with premium loot. If a Flare Gun is fired outside of the safe zone, however, it will summon a special vehicle. This weekend you can play Flare Gun Stage 2, a limited time mode meant to see how Flare Guns act in an otherwise normal game of PUBG.

5. Diablo 3 Will Eventually Get Cross-Play

In a recent interview, a Blizzard representative stated “it’s a question of when, not if” regarding cross-console play in Diablo 3. Apparently, Blizzard is working with both Sony and Microsoft to enable cross-platform play for the iconic Diablo 3. This is particularly interesting because Diablo 3 is coming to the Nintendo Switch on November 2nd, and players will presumably be more interested in buying it if they know they can play with their friends.

1. Moot Points with Dylan & Brian (Episode 24)

2. Bungie Announces Balance Changes in Gambit Mode

Gambit has been an incredibly popular game mode among Destiny 2 players, but one item in particular needs to be nerfed. Bungie announced they will be nerfing the Sleeper Simulant in only Gambit mode, but for some reason we’ll need to wait until October 30th for that change. Bungie has also teased some future changes to Gambit bounties, the frequency of rewards, and other aspects of Gambit so they can keep Guardians engaged with Destiny 2.

3. GWENT Homecoming PTR is Live This Weekend

GWENT is a card game that originated within The Witcher game series. After The Witcher 3 popularized the game, GWENT came to be a standalone digital card game. While it was well received initially, GWENT has slowly declined in popularity. To revive their game, CD Projekt Red is going back to square one with a massive rework called Homecoming. GWENT Homecoming is releasing on October 23rd, but you can participate in the Public Test Realm starting today through October 9th. We’d love to hear your thoughts on the new and hopefully improved GWENT.

4. Nintendo Patents a Game Boy Casing for Touchscreen Devices

Yesterday it was revealed that back in March Nintendo patented a device that looks to try and turn your phone into a Game Boy. The main function of the device looks to be enabling button presses to be recognized by the phone’s touchscreen. While Nintendo hasn’t announced anything official, the accessory could enable a wide range of old school Game Boy games to come to touchscreen devices. Pokemon on your iPhone, anyone?

5. Disney Unveils ‘Kingdom Hearts The Story So Far’

1. PUBG Ranked System Goes Live
PUBG on PC got a patch yesterday that introduced some big changes headlined by a new ranked system. There are eight ranks and players will move up or down based on how many Rank Points they earn in their matches. The PC patch also introduces new anti-cheat measures that were developed entirely in-house by PUBG Corp. Finally, the patch implemented a new quick-select menu for throwable weapons and healing items.

2. Shadow Stones Return to Fortnite

Shadow Stones are a new Season 6 item that are meant to give the user temporary invisibility. Unfortunately, when they were first introduced last week there were immediately some problems. Players were able to stay permanently invisible among other issues. This morning, Epic Games reintroduced Shadow Stones to their battle royale mode. This is just in time, as one of this week’s challenges requires players to use Shadow Stones.

3. PlayStation Players Will Soon Get to Change Their Name

A handful of game developers say they are preparing for a new change from Sony that will let gamers change their PlayStation Network name for the first time. Logistically, it will be difficult for many game developers to adjust for name changes as many accounts have been tied to usernames rather than a unique identifier. While we don’t have a timeframe for the change, it is probably safe to assume it will be out by early 2019 at the latest.

4. New Version of the Nintendo Switch May Release Next Year

Recent rumors have suggested Nintendo may be working on releasing an updated Nintendo Switch console some time next year. The updated console would presumably have improved hardware, increased software functions, and an upgraded visual display. So far, the Nintendo Switch has sold remarkably well and a new version of the console may help maintain that momentum. Would you be interested in buying Nintendo Switch 2.0?

5. Sid Meier’s Civilization VI is now Playable on iPhone

Civilization VI is the latest addition to Sid Meier’s series of epic strategy games. It released on PC in 2016, came to iPad in 2017, launched on Nintendo Switch earlier this year, and now it is coming to iPhones! The game has been tweaked a little bit to be more playable on a smaller screen, but it includes all of the gameplay from the original game. If you own the game on iPad, you won’t need to buy it again on your phone. Otherwise, the game costs $23.99 USD. You can, however, play 60 turns for free to see if you’re interested.

The Daily Moot (10/3/18)

1. First Fortnite Patch of Season 6 Introduces the Chiller Trap
A new Fortnite patch is live and the biggest thing it brings to the battle royale game mode is the new Chiller trap. The Chiller trap “applies icy feet to friends or foes, causing them to slide around with low friction.” This common trap drops in stacks of 3 and can be found in all the usual places. As always, we’ll need to wait and see how strong this unique effect is. What do you guys think? Overpowered, underpowered, or just right?

2.Overwatch Lego Figures are Coming Soon

We’ve known Overwatch was working with Lego for a while now, but a new trailer finally shows the first Lego hero. In the short trailer, we see Jeff Kaplan assembling a Tracer figurine. It makes sense for Tracer to be included, as she is the face of the game, but it is still reassuring to see her confirmed. Overwatch Legos are the second foray the Overwatch team has made into the toy market, as they also recently announced some Overwatch-themed Nerf guns.

3. Unique Adventure Game ‘The Quiet Man’ Releases Next Month

The Quiet Man is a unique action-adventure game that combines live action sequences with gameplay. The game focuses on a young deaf man named Dane who attempts to find a kidnapped singer named Lala. Unlike most games, The Quiet Man is designed to be completed in one sitting. Also, seeing as the main character is deaf it is fitting that the game has “very little distinct audio and no subtitles.” Watch the trailer in the article below to see if you’re at all intrigued. The Quiet Man launches on steam on November 1st and will cost $14.99 USD.

4. Leaks Reveal New Fortnite Halloween Skins

A pair of Fortnite leakers revealed on Twitter this morning what they claim to be the new Halloween skins for Fortnite. There are two new epic skins, one male and one female, that are both scarecrow outfits. There are also new backblings, gliders, and pickaxes. It is uncertain yet whether last year’s Halloween skins will make a return to the shop. Many fans would love an opportunity to buy the Ghoul Trooper or Skull Trooper skins from last year’s event.

5. Rainbow Six Siege Players Want Option to ‘Forgive’ Teamkillers

Recently, Ubisoft introduced a policy that temporarily bans players from competitive matchmaking if they teamkill twice in the same match. While this is good in theory, many R6 players want the ability to ‘forgive’ people who accidentally teamkill them. The only thing worse than being accidentally teamkilled is then seeing your teammate get kicked from the match and being forced to play on without a teammate. Ubisoft has not responded to the request yet.

3. Seattle Police Launch Anti-Swatting Program

‘Swatting’ is the act of calling in a fake threat at a streamer’s location so that a SWAT team will storm their home. It has unfortunately become a problem recently, with at least one swatting attempt resulting in a death, and the Seattle police department is trying to take steps to stop it. Now, those who are worried they may be swatted can preemptively register their address with the Seattle Police Department. This will enable the police to handle calls about the streamer with extra precaution and knowledge about the situation.

1. Fortnite’s Floating Island is Slowly Moving
If you’ve played Fortnite at all in Season 6 you may have noticed a big floating island above Loot Lake. If you played over the weekend, you’ll have noticed that island is now slowly drifting through the air. The floating island seems to be moving to the different purple runes on the ground. Yesterday, the island reached one of these locations and spawned volcanic craters in the area. What do you think all of this is building up to?

2. Rockstar Releases Another Red Dead Redemption 2 Gameplay Trailer

Red Dead Redemption 2 releases on the 26th of this month and Rockstar Games released a second gameplay trailer this morning to build some hype. We will have to wait and see when, or if, Shadow Stones come back.

5. New Twitch Tags System Launches to Community Disappointment

Yesterday Twitch introduced a way to tag your stream so viewers can more easily find the perfect streams for them. Some tags include ‘competitive’ and ‘beginner friendly,’ which are great, but the community at large is upset. The biggest complaint is the new tag system is less all-encompassing than the Community system it is replacing. You could create your own communities, but you can’t create your own tags, so unless tags already exist to describe your style of streaming you are left feeling left out.

1. Fortnite Patch V5.41 Adds New Port-a-Fortress
Fortnite’s patch this week is a small one but it brings a couple big items. The Port-a-Fortress is like the Port-a-Fort’s bigger brother, as it creates a castle instead of just a tower. The Port-a-Fortress is legendary rarity and can be found everywhere except on the ground. Epic Games has also added the Spiky Stadium to Playground mode, which will instantly spawn an arena full of Damage Traps and Bouncers.

2. Gwent’s ‘Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales’ Releases Next Month

GWENT is a standalone digital card game that originated in The Witcher video game series. Last year, the team behind GWENT announced they were working on a single-player RPG experience now known as Thronebreaker. The game was set to release last year as a game mode within GWENT, but CD Projekt Red decided the project was big enough to warrant a standalone game. Thronebreaker is set to release for PC on October 23rd and for PS4 and Xbox One on December 4th.

3. Nintendo Reveals a Fortnite Switch Bundle

This morning, Nintendo revealed a new Fortnite Switch Bundle that will let Fortnite fans get some in-game goodies with the purchase of a Nintendo Switch. The Bundle costs $299.99 USD, the normal price for a Switch console, and comes with 1,000 V-bucks and the Double Helix cosmetic set. The Double Helix set gives players a matching skin, back bling, glider, and pickaxe. It seems the Switch console itself in the bundle is just the normal Switch instead of a Fortnite-themed one.

4. Dozens of Sega Genesis Games Coming to the Switch

Sega announced today that over 50 of their most iconic games for the Sega Genesis will be coming to the Nintendo Switch in one massive bundle. Sega Genesis Classics will bring to the Switch classic games like Sonic the Hedgehog and Streets of Rage. A similar bundle came to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One earlier this year. That bundle cost $30 USD so we can expect the Switch bundle to have a roughly equivalent price.

5. NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 Releasing Next Month

NBA Playgrounds 2 was originally set to launch in May, but the game was pushed back to get some extra polish. Since then, 2K has taken over publishing the game and the title changed to reflect that. Playgrounds provides players with a fast-paced 2v2 arcade experience, featuring hundreds of iconic NBA players from throughout basketball’s history.

Nintendo Switch Online launches next week and will require a paid subscription after an initial test period. While this is a bit concerning, there is good news for cost-aware gamers. Not all games will actually require you to purchase Switch Online to actually play online. The most important game, Fortnite, is one of the lucky few where you can play online without paying for a subscription.

4. The Culling: Origins Relaunches as Free-to-Play Today

The Culling was a pretty good game. The Culling 2, however, flopped harder than a fat guy off a diving board in a public pool. The studio behind the game, in an astonishing turn of events, listened to community feedback and decided to make massive changes. They cancelled The Culling 2, refunded all orders, and decided to go back to their first game. Today, The Culling: Origins relaunches as a free to play battle royale. Give it a shot and let us know if you like it.

3. Rocket League’s Cross-Platform Parties Delayed

Psyonix Studios, the team behind Rocket League, have made a lot of big strides for their game this year. The RocketID, which would enable cross-platform friends to party up and play online together, was supposed to release this month but will now be late. Psyonix announced yesterday they are delaying the RocketID to make sure it is operating smoothly upon release. In the meantime, we’ll keep grinding away on the new Rocket Pass.

4. Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered Releasing Next Year

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is coming out next month, and this morning Ubisoft announced the game’s DLC and season pass plans. Included in the game’s season pass is a nice surprise, an Assassin’s Creed 3 remaster. Assassin’s Creed 3 is set during the American Revolution and received mixed reviews. While the story itself was better than average, the game released with a medley of issues. Hopefully the remaster cleans up most of the old bugs. The Assassin’s Creed 3 remaster will be available independently of the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey season pass.

5. Nickelodeon Kart Racers Announced

90s kids! This one’s for you. Nickelodeon Kart Racers features characters from some of Nickelodeon’s most popular shows, including Spongebob, Hey Arnold, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Rugrats. The announcement trailer makes the game look like it would fit right into the late 90s ensemble of games, which is fitting given the subject matter. Nickelodeon Kart Racers doesn’t have a release date, but we know it will release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch.

3. Nintendo Switch Online Launches Next Tuesday, September 18th

Subscribers also will gain access to 20 NES games at launch, including Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda.

4. New Sandbox MMO ‘Boundless’ Out Now

Boundless is a sandbox MMO that feels like Minecraft mixed with No Man’s Sky. The game has been in early access for a while, but yesterday Boundless full released on Steam. Based on the trailer, the biggest aspects of the game are exploration, crafting, and fighting. While Minecraft x No Man’s Sky sounds amazing, be careful. Steam reviews suggest the developers recently switched to a rather predatory microtransaction system. Watch the trailer and check out Boundless to see if it’s the perfect next game for you.
