Custom servers

I haven’t played in a while and I heard someone say something about custom servers is this true?

    From what I’ve heard custom servers will be separate from Adventure servers. You will not earn gold or commendations on custom servers.

    I know they’ve been testing them but I’m not sure the release date or the player limit.
