I guess for context, this was made in July and during the summer, it was rough for many people... Now we're in December and it's a little less hectic but we still have major issues happening today... I think no matter what people will celebrate the end of this year...
Memes Cyberpunk removed from PSN Store, refunds given
Cyberpunk 2077 was the most hyped game of all time. It was to be the game to end all games and be the most perfect RPG, action, and graphically beautiful game ever made.
Nothing ever lives up to those kinds of expectations, it’s impossible. Perfection does not exist, so expecting as much is just a ridiculous to do. Nonetheless, Cyberpunk 2077 released and immediately problems have been reported, specifically on consoles. While I have the game on PC and am having boatloads of fun exploring this futuristic dystopia, plenty are on the other end of the stick having their worst nightmares come true with the game that they thought would be the best ever.
How did this happen? Well, for starters, CD Projekt Red straight up refused to show any footage from consoles and exclusively showed gameplay from PC’s that were likely the biggest and baddest available. Not everyone has the 30 series GTX cards on thousands of dollars worth of computers, most stick with console gaming for their gaming needs, and the whole damn time we’ve been told that Cyberpunk 2077 was SPECIFICALLY designed for consoles. While I have friends who are having a blast on their base PS4’s, others are struggling to even hit 15 frames per second during the more hectic scenes. I thought this might be a unique case, but turns out it wasn’t and gamers playing on base consoles like PS4 and Xbox One were having trouble even getting the game to play. Game crashes, glitches, missions failing to start, the whole shebang. Because of this, CD Projekt Red has officially had the games removed from the PSN store. I can’t remember another time in gaming history when such a thing has happened. Some disastrous, hyped up titles have had terrible launches in the start, sure. Anthem, Destiny and Marvel’s Avengers come to mind, but even those terrible launches didn’t lead to them being completely removed from digital purpose. It seems the reason behind it is simply because for the majority of people, the game is unplayable. It’s an astonishing move to remove what is easily the hottest game in the world right now for various reasons, but it seems to be a sign of good will from the
company giving everyone who wants one, a refund.
How can they bounce back? Quite the question, how do you repair your reputation with millions of people? Especially when you were so beloved by them to start? First off, you have to fix the issues. Get the frame rate to a respectable level, fix the glitches that fundamentally ruin the experience absolutely figure out how to eliminate game crashes. That’s the easy and obvious stuff though, what really needs to happen is an influx of free DLC. It’s well known at this point that there has been a metric ton of content cut from the game as is, so to get moving on some of that DLC would be the best course of action. The DLC in reference is in regards to the insane montage that starts you off in Night City, where your entire friendship with Jackie and introduction to the world of being a mercenary is glossed over in about a minute. It was one of the clearest examples of cut content I’ve ever seen in a game, so they’re going to want to put that back in if they hope to get another purchase from the people they’ve burned. It’s going to be a long road back to glory for CR Projekt Red, but they’ve done right by their fans before, so hopefully, they realize what’s on the line and do right by them once again.
