If you could create your own behemoth, what would it be and why ?

POPULAR The weapons tier list.

S Tier: Axe

Dauntless weapons - Axe

While the Axe and the Hammer are both huge and cumbersome, the Axe outperforms the Hammer by a long shot because of the much higher DPS. Both types of attacks can be charged, and you can even move while charging the horizontal attack for added versatility. Attacking with the Axe takes some time so it's best used when you've got a team that can stagger and wound the behemoth, then you can jump in and clobber the bugger. The Flight of Ruin ability means you can do some serious ranged damage too, as your Axe will fly forth and spin at high speeds, then just before it returns you can perform a high-damage ground pound.

A Tier: War Pike

Dauntless weapons - War Pike

The War Pike doesn't have the highest DPS, nor is it the most mobile, or the best ranged weapon. Where the War Pike shines is with wounding and severing behemoth parts; the piercing attacks are stationary and will wound parts, while the harvesting attacks are great for severing the parts. The War Pike is ideal for obtaining much needed crafting components, and can be paired perfectly with high DPS weapons like the Axe. For a much more ranged attack that is great at 'booping' behemoths - the term colloquially used for interrupting a behemoth's attack and staggering it - you can use the Pike Blast which emits a ranged laser blast and is one of the most powerful special abilities.

B Tier: Chain Blades

Dauntless weapons - Chain Blades

The Chain Blades are the fastest weapon to use in Dauntless, and are well suited to players who love to demonstrate a high DPS. They can't do anything special like wound or stagger the behemoths, but they allow you to dart in and out of battle with the Chain Push ability. Blade Spin is the best combo to use when getting up close and personal because you'll swing the Chain Blades around in a vertical motion, and while each hit doesn't deal immense damage, the quick succession of hits results in a high total DPS and is great for stacking up the part damage. Unfortunately, the Chain Blades can't deal any wound or stagger damage, and it can't 'boop' behemoths - which prevents it from being an S Tier weapon.

B Tier: Sword

Dauntless weapons - Sword

The Sword in Dauntless is the most basic of weapons. The two attacks are light and heavy for a medium and high amount of damage respectively, and there's four unique combos to execute which all deal high DPS. Like the Chain Blades, the Sword is great at focusing on part damage and if you're brand new to games of this type, the Sword may be the best way to go overall because it's the simplest weapon to use. Overdrive, the special ability for the Sword, follows suit by dealing more damage per hit, and emitting 'aetheric waves' whenever you attack. You can also use Aether Dash while in Overdrive, which is a simple mobility tool, like a more effective dodge.

B Tier: Repeaters

Dauntless weapons - Repeaters

You may equip the Repeaters and think that you can now sit on a clifftop taking pot shots at the behemoth because you've got two guns, but you'd be oh so wrong. The Repeaters increase in damage the closer you are to the behemoth, so peppering it with shots from a distance will make you essentially useless. In the early game, the Repeaters are not a good weapon of choice. That all changes when you reach the endgame though because once you understand the mechanics completely and can customise your character build in favour of the Repeaters, they can quickly become very powerful and arguably the strongest weapon in the game. Reaching that point will take hours of gameplay though, so during your initial time spent with the game when you're still completing quests, leave the Repeaters in their holsters and don a melee weapon instead.

C Tier: Hammer

Dauntless weapons - Hammer

This will undoubtedly be controversial because the Hammer has some notable strengths but in my opinion, the Hammer is the worst weapon in Dauntless. It offers the least amount of mobility because of how heavy it is, and attacks are so easily interrupted since the animation is so long. It's the best weapon for staggering behemoths, but you'll often be better off using a War Pike or Axe for the added wound damage. It has a very short ranged attack that can deal high damage but you have to be right next to the behemoth, and is again, easily interrupted. Some players love the Hammer but it has a steep learning curve compared to the other weapons. Give it a miss and focus on dealing more DPS instead, unless you're determined to persevere with it.

Dauntless just officially launched last week, but the game has already reached 6 million unique players. This is double the game’s player count during the open beta on just PC. Dauntless is free to play, available on consoles, and supports cross-platform game play. Certainly all of these contributed to the game’s popularity after release. We need this......

Or maybe its just me who wants this idk rlly but i think they should add a training ground just to test out your weapons learn the combo moves some more rather than looking at the move list while ur fighting cause u forgot about it so having a place to try out new weapons would be nice rather than doing it while under the pressure of not trying to die.

what do u think should they add a training ground or not 🤔

Dauntless: Initial Thoughts and Review

The new game: Dauntless, published by Epic Games and developed by Phoenix Labs, Dauntless was created by some of the best game developers on the planet. The hype for the game has been super high, but is it deserved?
My Opinion:
I think not. The game consists of teaming up with up to 3 other people to fight one monster, then returning to Ramsgate to craft new weapons. Repeat. There isn't much to the game.

- Positives:
Weapons: I love the variety of weapons and the fact that each weapon can suit a different playstyle so well. Each weapon suits players in a different way with unique characteristics and abilities. Unlike other action RPGs, the weapons in Dauntless completely change the way you have to play in order to be good at the game. Stats aren't the only thing that differentiates weapons.
Upgrades: In Dauntless, you take all the pieces from Behemoths back to the town of Ramsgate. You spend less time farming the same monster over and over again for duplicate pieces to make better loot, depending on the type of item you have. You can keep upgrading these weapons even without monster parts, instead of using a general currency you get from all hunts. And you’re not punished for creating one piece of gear and then moving to experiment with another. Gear sets and weapons have stats and unique bonuses.

Probably the best part, in my opinion, is the fact that the game is 100% free-to-play and it is cross-platform. This aspect of Dauntless is super important in modern gaming. This is self-explanatory.

-Negatives:
The wait. The game takes way too long simply to start playing! The first time I played, I had to wait half an hour just for the start menu. Then once I got in the game, it was even worse. It takes at least 5 minutes to find a squad and fights can last nearly 25 minutes. This is too much time. The game doesn't have enough mechanics to make a 20-25 minute fight entertaining.

More about this in this post: https://moot.us/lounges/164/boards/706/posts/1272249
(After typing this, I was scrolling through the Dauntless page and I came across this post. I realized that it goes over everything I thought about the game in more detail, so make sure to check it out.)
I think the game needs a lot of work, but that's a topic for another time, considering the game is still brand-new. It's a start to a great game, but it needs more.

Review:
I do not recommend this game to those who wish to play without a squad. The wait time is unreasonable and you practically NEED a hunting party to enjoy the game. I would only recommend this game to those who have an entertaining group of friends that they can play with at any time. Otherwise, you might want to consider looking at another game until they make improvements.

POPULAR Dauntless is a Terrible Game That Could Become an All-Time Great

Dauntless is a brand-new free-to-play action RPG published by none other than Fortnite’s Epic Games. Developed by Phoenix Labs (which consists of former developers for Riot Games, BioWare, Blizzard, and Capcom), Dauntless was created by some of the best game developers on the planet. This is the studio’s first release, so it’s understandable why the hype for this game has been so high.
The gameplay is best described as a combination of Monster Hunter, Destiny, and World of Warcraft. You go out on a “hunt” with a team of up to 4 people where you fight 1 monster. After defeating the monster, you return to the hub where you can craft new equipment with the items you received for the kill. That’s basically the entirety of the gameplay, rinse and repeat.

Before I tear into my disappointment for the current state of the game on release, I want to acknowledge the aspects of Dauntless that I actually enjoy. First and foremost it’s completely free-to-play and it’s 100% cross-platform compatible. Crossplay is, in my opinion, one of the most important aspects for a game to have in the current era of gaming, and it’s fantastic to see a game embracing it immediately upon launch.

I love the variety of weapons you can choose from and how each weapon has its own characteristics and special attacks. You can choose to maximize your movement and allow yourself to attack from a distance with the Chain Blades or straight-up knock monsters out with a big ol’ Hammer. In so many games the only difference between weapons are its stats and effectiveness vs different armor types. In Dauntless, your weapon changes everything.
I love the fact that you can focus a specific body part in order to break it off the monster which changes the mechanics of the fight and allows you to receive it as a drop after slaying the beast. There are definitely problems with this however as even though you’re guaranteed the drop, you’re not guaranteed any specific rarity. This becomes a problem later on as you need rare or epic body parts which are entirely RNG-based. There are already people who have done over 100 encounters without getting the rarity they need in order to craft their equipment. Keep in mind that these fights can easily last 20 minutes each, so spending all that time just hoping for some good RNG is absolutely horrendous. This brings me to my next point, and transitions us into the things I don’t like about Dauntless.

It takes way too long to do anything. It takes about 5 minutes to find a team, then 20 minutes to win the fight, and there’s about 5 minutes of loading screens between all that. We’re talking 30 minutes just to do one encounter. While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing (Dark Souls, Monster Hunter), it IS a bad thing in Dauntless because the fights are just boring. The fights consist of you sitting on top of the monster spam attacking it, then the monster runs away and you sit on top of it spam attacking again. There are different combos you can do, but for the most part you end up pressing left-click or X over and over again for 20 minutes which simply isn't fun. The monsters do have different moves, but there are not enough mechanics to the fights to justify the length or to hold your interest through its entirety. Not to mention that your character is insanely slow, which means that a lot of the fight is spent just chasing the monster around so that you can get in attack range.

It’s not just the fighting either. The interfaces are bad or inconsistent. There’s random people throughout the small town for you to talk to, but they don’t actually say anything. There's a bunch of doors you can’t open and rooms you can't enter. The aesthetic is genuinely a complete copy-paste of Fortnite. Movement in general is clunky and unsatisfying. In other words, there’s a lot of quality-of-life problems that only become more glaring amidst the frankly boring gameplay.
That said I do have hope for Dauntless. It has the foundations of something good, but it really needs some refinement. One major improvement would be to make the hunts more interesting by adding more things to the environment. Give me some treasures to find, give me more than one monster to kill, give me a reason to explore. I want more compelling combat. Give me some abilities that matter, let me move faster and give me some mechanics that feel satisfying to pull off. I want there to be a reason for me to be in a squad. Give me some synergistic abilities, let each member have a role in the fight, if we’re supposed to be a team then I want to be working together with my teammates.

Dauntless has a long way to go and in its current state I honestly wouldn’t recommend this game to anyone who plans to play it solo, but it’s worth giving it a shot if you have a few friends that are down for a little PvE action. It’s very rough around the edges, but I have confidence that Phoenix Labs isn’t about to let their studio debut fall into oblivion because they truly have the foundations for something great here. Only time will tell if they will be able to reach their potential with this game, all we can do now is hope and wait. In the meantime, grab a couple friends and give Dauntless a shot, it’s completely free-to-play on PC, Xbox, and PS4. Let me know what you think.
