Apex Legends - Beginner’s Guide to Armor, Helmets, Knockdown Shields, and Backpacks
Have you ever wondered what the shield difference is between common armor and legendary armor? Have you ever thought about how many slots each different backpack grants you? If you’ve ever wondered about any of the in-game item specifics - this guide is for you! Together, we will be exploring the different levels of armor, helmets, knockdown shields, and backpacks that Apex Legends has to offer!

Armor Armor can very well be the difference between living and dying in a gunfight. Because of how important it is to players survival, armor is prioritized at the start of a game, only secondary to finding a weapon. Armor can also give a distinct advantage from distance - the better the armor, the more time a damaged opponent has to heal his missing shields - giving them the potential to heal up and push you again. Level 1: A common shield grants 50 incoming shield damage before taking health damage.

Level 2: A rare shield grants 75 incoming shield damage before taking health damage.

Level 3: An epic shield grants 100 incoming shield damage before taking health damage.

Level 4: A legendary shield grants 100 incoming shield damage before taking health damage. Lower head-on resistance than a level-3 shield. *Legendary armor also heals more shields with shield cells, and health with syringes

Evo-Shield: Levels up as the user deals damage to standing players (knocked-down players don’t apply)

A Level 1 Evo shield grants 25 incoming shield damage before taking health damage. Upon dealing 75 damage to level it up, it becomes a level 2 Evo shield which can absorb 50 damage. Upon leveling it up by dealing 150 damage, it becomes a level 3 Evo shield which can absorb 100 damage. After dealing 400 damage to level it up once more, it becomes a Level 5 Evo Shield (yes, oddly skipping level 4) which can take up to 125 shield damage. *The easiest way to level up an evo shield is to use a G7 scout, or charge rifle to easily deal the damage necessary from a distance! Helmets Helmets are a useful item to pick up at any point during the game, which will help you take less headshot damage. Level 1: A common helmet decreases incoming headshot damage by 10%

Level 2: A rare helmet decreases incoming headshot damage by 20%

Level 3: An epic helmet decreases incoming headshot damage by 25%

Level 4: A legendary helmet decreases incoming headshot damage by 25% *Ability to use tactical and ultimate abilities more frequently

Knockdown Shield Knockdown shields help knocked-down players protect their vulnerable legend from incoming damage. Level 1: A common knockdown shield allows the player to shield themselves from one direction of incoming enemy damage after being knocked down. Level 1 will block 200 incoming damage.

Level 2: A rare knockdown shield allows the player to shield themselves from one direction of incoming enemy damage after being knocked down. Level 2 will block 450 incoming damage.

Level 3: An epic knockdown shield allows the player to shield themselves from one direction of incoming enemy damage after being knocked down. Level 3 will block 750 incoming damage.

Level 4: A legendary knockdown shield allows the player to shield themselves from one direction of incoming enemy damage after being knocked down. Level 4 will block 750 incoming damage. *Ability to self revive after being knocked down - beware of nearby enemies, though - the gold knockdown shield has a loud sound indicator and takes longer than a regular revive!

Backpack Backpacks allow players to carry more items in their inventory. Each tier of backpacks adds more inventory slots. Level 1: A common backpack opens up 2 new inventory slots for the user, granting them 12 total!

Level 2: A rare backpack opens up 4 new inventory slots for the user, granting them 14 total!

Level 3: An epic backpack opens up 6 new inventory slots for the user, granting them 16 total!

Level 4: A legendary backpack opens up 6 new inventory slots for the user, granting them 16 total! *Ability to revive teammates with 50 Shield and 70 Health

Now we come to the question on everyone’s mind -- Which legendary item is the best? Ranking them from best to worst, the legendary armor takes the #1 spot because of its endgame viability. Being able to carry shield cells instead of shield batteries, and syringes instead of med kits allows for more healing-per-inventory-space. In late game situations where opponents often try to “make a pick” on one of the enemies, being able to quick heal and use common meds can be the difference between a win and a loss for your squad! Coming in our 2nd spot is the legendary helmet. The legendary helmet in endgame situations can come up huge - being able to use more tactical and ultimate abilities can truly change the outcome of the game; pair that with it’s reduced headshot damage, and it can easily get you out of unwanted-situations. Legends like Caustic, Wraith, Wattson, Bloodhound all turn into monsters when equipped with a gold helmet - and that’s just to name a few! The legendary backpack takes the 3rd place spot! Being able to revive opponents with shield and health can come up huge. During a regular revive, a player respawns with very little health and zero shields. When reviving with a golden backpack, the player comes back with 50 shield and 70 health, as opposed to a regular revive’s 20 health and no shields. If you ever have a lifeline or a mirage on your team, always give them the golden-backpack! Lifeline can auto-revive you with golden-backpack stats with her doc, and mirage can provide a safer revive by cloaking himself with invisibility! In the last place spot, we have the legendary knockdown shield. To put it simply, the knockdown shield leaves a lot to be desired. With the increased-revive-time, and the loud animation sound it makes, a golden knockdown shield will often lead enemies right to your location. Though it does give legendary backpack revive stats (70 health and 50 shields), you’ll may find that, unless other teams are fighting, pinning a revive will be very difficult to accomplish.

Gold shield is the best
I like the evo
Yea red evo is better in my opinion but I was just talking about all of the gold items
out of all the gold I would rather have the backpack I carry alot of healing items and ammo and reviving teammates it saves meds and when in battle if you pull a sneaky revive they can go and fight right away
True
@Wxbber you missed one thing out about the Lvl 4 body shield. Yes it also takes a 100 dmg before cracking but the head on resistance with a bullet is lower than on a lvl3 body shield to even it a bit out that you get double of the amount from whatever u use atm
Added to the guide! Thanks for your input!!
No probs fam. Also thank you for even making a guide for beginners
Also it's just a slightly lower dmg resistance but it can kill you easily
You forgot red evo shield
Red evo info is in the except about evo shields! :D "level 5"
the item that I found most useful was fast heal back pack.
It's so helpful! Especially during end-game situations!
