I'm not even HR 50 yet but I want to at least see most of the base game before jumping into Iceborn so even a little help would be awesome.

you should be able to fight most monsters before you even have access to iceborn, only ones I dont think you really fight are lunastra, behemoth and leshen, you can fight kulve taroth when he is available to.
