Raging Brachydios Observations and Tips!
Hello everyone! The new patch for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne has been released, and with it, brings two new monsters: Raging Brachydios and Furious Rajang, two very angry bois.
I've been able to defeat the Raging Brachydios (RB for now), but no luck yet for Rajang. But I though I'd still share some strategies and observations I've had while fighting it!
RAGING BRACHYDIOS DATA :
Firstly, I've had the pleasure (or torture, whichever you prefer) to fight him on Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, and while fighting him, there is a very big change, although it is a know one. RB would usually have a "second" layer of slime on his body, which upon making contact will explode immediately. This also goes for when you hit a body part with the volatile slime. Now it was changed to just drop slime, giving a chance to escape it's damage.
Secondly, Due to it's bigger size, his attack are much slower and predictable, making easier to counterattack, and not get unfairly punched like it's non-variant. This gives slower weapons, such as Greatswords and Hammers, are much better match up. But it compensates this by having wider attacks and blast radius, so you have to be extra precautions around his attacks. I wouldn't advice using the Clutch Claw to often on him either, since he has a higher chance to proc the slime status, and locking yourself in the animations while this happens isn't the greatest outcome. Only use it with big openings if you wish to soften it's hide, whether that be well timed claws, or using one of your mantles.
TIPS FOR THE FIGHT
WEAPONS AND "CLASSES"
Healer - I highly advice having a healer. After beating it solo, having a teammate with healing capabilities drastically increases survival, especially during it's last phase, thanks to the heat created from it's slime. This works great if the healer is a Hunting Horn user.
Glaive Mount Support - I found myself usually being the mounter. And this is a very important role for this fight, as having a big opening to hit RB with your strongest attacks will help drastically in chipping away at it. It works great as well with healing bug spores.
Gunner - When I found my buddy using long range weapons, it wasn't very effective as you'd think. This is because RB has multiple options to hit enemies from afar, and these usually leave a big trail of explosive slime on his path, destroying anything in it's way
The weapons I'd recommend are probably the most hard hitting ones, such as GS and Hammer. And of course, the classes mentioned above. I would not recommend using weapons with slow movement and dodges, like the Lances and Switch Axe, as they have a much harder time dodging RB's slime onslaught.
**NOTE*** You can remove RB second slime layer with slinger shots!!! I found this by accident while fighting it, but it's possible to force him to drop the volatile slime by shooting slinger shots. The stronger shots such as pierce and bomb will remove it in one hit. Weaker ones like Red Pit and Stones take a couple, but this gives close range player an alternative to remove that burden!!!
RB's weak points are it's pounders and it's head. His tail is severable (obv). A good strategy that worked for my friend and me, was softening his legs. I know this contradicts my point up in the post to not Clutch Claw constantly, but his legs are actually the safest part to Claw, as he only has a very few amount of attacks that make them have hitboxes, and are just high enough to dodge the sticky slime.
There aren't that many defensive skills I can point out for this fight, besides possibly Heat Guard for his last phase, as the slime he leaves in the ground produce heat. But I have yet to test that myself, so if anyone has test it, please do inform if it works in the comments!
But other than that, bring your usual necessary skills for your class. Health Boost 3 is a high must, but it is a common skill for MR. Bring Health Booster and good Mantles. DO NOT BRING ROCKSTEADY, BAD IDEA LOL (Another idea I had while writing the post is the Cleanser booster to remove slime status, but I haven't tested it either).
And that all I have! These are my choices and experiences with the amount if fight I've had against RB. I absolutely love the fight, as he is my favorite monster of the franchise. I do hope this post helped some of you a bit! If I find anything else that could prove useful, I'll make sure to post about it. And you all can also comment here any recommendation/opinion you have. If you find anything wrong or that can be improved with my post, let me know! I'm open to criticism!
Finally, what are your guys thoughts on the fight? Let me know in the comments! And make sure to upvote if you enjoyed the read

[Tip] Safi'Jiiva hunt guide Vol.2
Hey, how's your hunting?
Safi’Jiiva was updated on PC today.
Many people are gathering to the gathering hub and hunting Safi’Jiiva, but many of them have no experiences of Safi’Jiiva hunting on PS4.
So I’m gonna introduce the priority of Safi’Jiiva hunting.
Partbreak is the most important for the Safi’Jiiva hunt. More Partbreak gives more rewards.
This means you ‘SHOULD’ get Partbreaker Lv.3, rather than Weakness Exploit. Safi’Jiiva’s hide is extremely hard, so Weakness Exploit doesn’t affect well compared to other monsters.
Partbreak points are below
Back - 100 Pts
Chest - 200 Pts
Right Wing - 50 Pts
Left Wing - 50 Pts
Right Foreleg - 20 Pts
Left Foreleg - 20 Pts
Right Hindleg - 20 Pts
Left Hindleg - 20 Pts
Tail - 120 Pts
Head Partly Broken - 20 Pts
Head Completely Broken - 180 Pts
You can see that Head, Tail, Chest, Back grants high Points. These parts are the target you need to aim for in the 1st run.
There are 3 types of weapons in Monster Hunter. Each type of weapons need to aim for different parts of Safi’Jiiva.
Slash - Tail (1st priority), Head (2nd priority), Forelegs (lowest priority)
Blunt - Head (1st priority), Hindlegs (2nd priority), Forelegs (lowest priority)
Gunner - Wings & Back (1st priority), Head (2nd priority), Any legs (lowest priority)
But first of all, if Safi’Jiiva enters to Supercritical Mode, Chest has the highest priority of all for all weapons. Chest has the highest points, but can only be broken during Supercritical Mode. So when Safi’Jiiva enters Supercritical Mode, all players must go for the chest, even the head or tail is not broken or severed yet.
Slash Weapons, must sever Safi’Jiiva’s tail in 1st run. There are usually 1 or 2 Gunners in the party, other 2 would be Slash Weapons (Mostly, GS). The tail has very high durability. if 2 GS keeps going for the tail, the tail usually severed at almost the end of Phase 2. There is no time to sever the tail in 2nd run, so Slash weapons must sever the tail during the 1st run. After severing the tail, go for the head and help Gunners to break out Safi’s head. If the head is also completely broken, go for the Forelegs (But mostly, they won’t be broken)
Blunt weapons, actually I don’t recommend Blunt weapons during Safi’Jiiva hunt because if there are Blunt weapons, it means less Slash or Gunner. This would cause a lack of damage to the tail, or wings. Head is the first priority for Blunt weapons, but the head is so high. It won’t reach well so you need to go for the Hindlegs (Hindlegs are weak at Blunt). However, even though you successfully break the Hindlegs, the reward points are only 20 Pts each. If you don’t want to spend too much times for Safi’Jiiva run, Blunt weapon is not a good option.
Gunner must break the wings and back. Slash and Blunt cannot reach the wings and back. Both wings grant 50 Pts as a reward so we must destroy them, and it’s on Gunner.
Back is optional. Back has the lowest durability from all Safi’Jiiva’s body parts, it can be broken so easily. During Phase 2, there are so many chances to mount on Safi’Jiiva and 1 or 2 times of mount attack on his back will break the back parts. Once you break the wings and back out, go for the head to destroy it.
Forelegs are weak at Slash, Hindlegs are weak at Blunt, but do not go for these legs unless you break out everything. Legs, especially Forelegs has extremely high durability but has the lowest rewards points. You can break everything except legs during 1st run, so just attack these legs during 2nd run, until Phase 3.
If you failed to break the chest during the 1st run, prepare all stuns and paralysis, sleep for Phase 3. When Safi’Jiiva enters Supercritical Mode, give every CC you got and try to break the chest.
[Tip] Safi'Jiiva hunt guide Vol.1
Hey, how's your hunting?
Only 1 day left for Safi'Jiiva on PC.
Unlike other monsters, Safi'Jiiva has a different way of hunting.
Before the update, let me introduce how to hunt Safi'Jiiva.
The hunting system of Safi’Jiiva is similar to Kulve Taroth.
More part break gives more rewards so breaking Safi’s parts is more important than just dealing damage.
Safi’Jiiva has 3 Phases. The perimeter of the 1st Phase features several spots that can be used to greatly deplete Safi'Jiiva's energy. Stagger Safi'Jiiva and drive it out to the edges, where you can use the environment to your advantage.
The Southern Part of the Area (next to the cliff) will trap Safi'Jiiva with vines for about 20 Seconds
The northern part has two boulders that can be dropped on Safi'Jiiva with a Slinger Shot for massive Damage and stun.
When Safi’Jiiva gets a lot of damage, he drains energy from the ground, recovers all wounds and the energy of the 1st area gets decreased. Falling Boulder and Trap Ground causes run out of his energy so always look for the chances to use them if it’s possible.
Once the energy runs out from the ground, Safi’Jiiva moves to the next floor, starts 2nd Phase.
After Phase 2, the one who dealt the highest damage to Safi’Jiiva will get the aggro of him. This is similar to Behemoth, FF14 collaboration monster. Safi’Jiiva will keep attacks on him so HBG or Lance is recommended to be a tank. (Most of the time, HBG) Other party members can get the aggro via flinch shot on Safi’Jiiva’s face.
Sometimes he flies and spurts huge energy. This is an instant kill pattern like Eclipse Meteo of Behemoth. To survive from this pattern, move behind the rocks on the grounds. Same as avoid Eclipse Meteo.
Safi’Jiiva will also drain energies from the ground when he gets a lot of damage, and move to the last floor for Phase 3 when the energy runs out.
Phase 3, Safi’Jiiva moves really fast and uses binding attacks very often. This binding attack will make your HP as 1 and inflicts burning debuff. Unless your party uses Life Powder for you or make your Fire Res 20 or higher, you will 100% die. When Safi’Jiiva spreads its wings on the ground, this means binding attack will come soon so do not hit by this. This binding attack cannot be guarded even with Guard Up, so just evade it.
Sometimes Safi’Jiiva enters to Supercritical State. During this state, Safi’Jiiva’s body glows white, his body gets softened, and Chest gets breakable. However, his movement gets faster, his attacks cause energy explosion. Supercritical State is very dangerous, but also the biggest chance to deal damage and break the parts. Supercritical State wears off when Safi’Jiiva uses instant kill pattern.
There are 3 spots of the gas field on the last floor. When hunters hit this gas field, it explodes and deals 1,000 damage to Safi’Jiiva when Safi was there. If Safi’Jiiva gets hit by this gas explode 2 times, he gets stunned for a long time.
Next, I’m gonna post about the recommended skills and parts break.

Safi'Jiiva weapon awakened guide
Hey, how’s your hunting?
Safi'Jiiva will be updated to PC this Thursday.
It is similar to Kulve Taroth but has quite different root systems. You can get 3 to 4 weapons when you clear Safi'Jiiva quest each. Once you get the weapons you want, you need to upgrade them.
Let's see how to upgrade Safi'Jiiva weapons.
Every time you clear the quest, you'll obtain 4 kinds of Dracolites.
Dracolite Shard, Dracolite, Large Dracolite, Rigid Dracolite.
Each Dracolite will grant 1, 5, 20, 50 Manifestation Points. Once you reach the max point, you can choose one of 3 options and add it to the weapon, or do not choose anything but store potential to the weapon.
Once you store potential to the weapon, it will slightly increase the possibility of something better options appearing rate next time.
There are some rules and tips for the weapons
1) Lv.6 Ability
- Can you see the 5 Star but colorful and has a white coating? That is Lv.6 unique ability. It grants more bonus stats but we can only apply one unique ability to each weapon.
2) Series Skills
- As you see above, Lunastra Essence is appearing on the abilities tap. Like this series skills, you can also apply only one of series skills. It considered one of the series armor parts. For example, to apply Lunastra Essence skill to your character, you can choose that series skill to your weapon and equip only one more Lunastra armor.
3) To make better abilities appear faster
- It depends on your weapon's Awakened Level and what abilities you choose. Higher Awakened Level you have, the higher possibility to get better abilities.
Additionally, in that case above, I choose Sharpness Increase Lv. 3 and 6 (Unique), Thus I have that, rerolled options show include Sharpness Increase Lv. 4. The same type but better options have a higher appearing rate when you have a lower level of the same ability.
There are 'Add' and 'Upgrade Ability'. In the case of Add, it adds one more option to your weapon. In the case of Upgrade Ability, it will overwrite your previously chosen ability.
Most of the melee weapons are recommended to add full Attack Increase. However, Dual Blades and Charge Blade with Element Phial is recommended to add full Elemental Increase (Bow as well).
LBG & HBG has various type depends on the main Ammo.
It's easy to get the weapon from Safi'Jiiva, but it will take some time to add 5 best options you want. At least, one same weapon you equipped when you kill Safi'Jiiva will be dropped so it's much better than Kulve Taroth.
Be patient and let's make our own best weapons!
[Build] Hybrid GS build
Hey, how’s your hunting?
These past few days, I’m using GS as my favorite. But neither True Charged Slash only, nor Crit Draw only.
Let me introduce this fun, but really strong GS build.
<Equipment & Skills>
Weapon: Rathalos Gleamsword
Head: Rimeguard Helm α+
Chest: Damascus Mail β+
Hand: Rimeguard Vambraces β+
Waist: Rimeguard Coil β+
Leg: Rimeguard Greaves β+
Charm: Attack Charm IV
Attack Boost Lv.7
Health Boost Lv.3
Critical Boost Lv.3
Weakness Exploit Lv.3
Critical Eye Lv.2
Critical Draw Lv.2
Divine Blessing Lv.2
Flinch Free Lv.2
Quick Sheath Lv.1
After Safi’Jiiva, we can use any Safi GS for this build, but we can only use Rathalos GS yet before Safi’Jiiva.
Critical Boost, Weakness Exploit, Focus is a typical GS skill. Health Boost is also a typical skill for everyone in Iceborne. But you can see that Critical Eye is only Lv.2.
In this build, we don’t have no make Critical Eye Lv.7 because Rathalos Gleamsword already has 25% of basic Affinity, an additional 10% from Augment Equipment, 5% from Attack Boost Lv.4 or more. And we’ll have Critical Draw Lv.2 automatically from Rimeguard Greaves.
Basic Affinity is 40%, 60% added from Critical Draw Lv.2, or 50% added from Weakness Exploit. Only Critical Eye Lv.2 is needed to add 10% more.
Add Health Regen I, Affinity Increase I, Element up I for Augment Equipment.
Then how to play this? It’s very simple.
Just play it as a Critical Draw GS at other times. The sheathing is no as fast as typical Critical Draw build, but anyway, at least it has Lv.1 of Quick Sheath.
When monsters are groggy, stunned, trapped, etc, prepare to use True Charged Slash. This is the reason why we get the 4 pieces of Rimeguard armor. Rathalos Gleamsword’s basic damage is lower than Acid Shredder II (Acidic Glavenus GS), but its damage is much more increased via Frostcraft. If you use Charged Slash (Full Charge) as a draw attack, skip Strong Charged Slash with Slinger Burst, True Charged Slash (Full Charge), the damage is much higher than typical GS build.
To maximize the damage, you need to sheath the weapon often to recharge the gauge of Frostcraft, but GS sheathes very often so this will not bother you so much.
In the case of Acid Shredder II, it has extremely short purple sharpness. However, Rathalos Gleamsword, it has long white sharpness so you can spam the attacks more freely. But making wounds consumes Frostcraft gauge so fast, so ask your party members to make wounds on monsters. If there are no other heavy weapons or it was a solo play, RIP your Frostcraft gauge.
With Safi GS, This hybrid GS build could be stronger. I’ll come back with that upgraded build soon.
[Build] Rajang HBG for easy Safi'Jiiva
Hey, how’s your hunting?
Stygian Zinogre was added on PC, Safi’Jiiva on next Thursday.
On PS4, people who wants to hunt Safi’Jiiva fast and easily used Stormslinger, Horizon Zero Dawn collaboration LBG. However, there’s no Stormslinger on PC because Horizon Zero Dawn collaboration was only for PS4.
Thus, we have to find another option for easy Safi’Jiiva hunt. Luckily there’s a way, Rajang HBG.
Artillery: Boost the damage
Guard: If you decided to use this build, you must get Guard Lv.5 and 3 Shield parts for customize bowgun. Or you cannot handle the guard damage.
Guard Up: To guard various attacks
Divine Blessing, Health Boost: For survivability
Partbreaker: More parts breaks are more rewards from Safi’Jiiva. This is not an optional.
Slugger: For more stuns (Optional)
Flinch Free: This should be Lv.3. Safi’Jiiva uses quick breath very often and it bothers reload. Rajang HBG supports auto-reload of Sticky Ammo 3, but if you were hit by this quick breath, you’ll get extremely pissed. However, Flinch Free Lv.3 negates the reaction from it.
Augment Equipment: Health Regen II, Defense Increase I
Customize Bowgun: 3 Shield, 1 Close Range Up, 1 Wyvernheart Mod
In the 1st run, If your party is skilled enough, Slash weapons will go for the tail, Blunt weapons will go for the hind legs or head, Gunners will go for the wings and back. This means no one will hit Safi’s head except you for a long. But Safi’s head must be broken twice for a lot of rewards points.
In my case, I use Glider Mantle+ and set Trueshot Jewel+ 4 & Expert Jewel+ 4. This is for Wyvernheart, the Special Ammo of Rajang HBG.
When Safi’Jiiva gets stunned, reload Wyvernheart immediately and spam it on his head (The head must be wounded). With Wyvernheart Mod, your Wyvernheart will deal huge damage on his head. To boost the damage of Wyvernheart, I picked up Trueshot Jewel+4, Expert Jewel+ 4 to reduce the minus Affinity of Rajang HBG.
Your role during the hunt is parts break, stun, and tank. You will deal a lot of damage on Safi’s head for whole time, thus you’ll get the aggro after Phase 2 and become a tank. If a tank moves often, Safi will move often as well and your party will have a hard time to deal damage.
However, we have Guard Lv.5 and 3 Sheild parts. Just hold your position, guard the attacks, spam Sticky Ammo on the head. Your party will happily sever Safi’s tail.
During the second run, now it’s time to break wings and back. Do not go for the head, (If your party is skilled, the head was already broken during the first run) spam Sticky Ammo on both wings. If you’re the only gunner in the party, the wings will be broken almost the end of Phase 2.
If you break the wings and back, go for the head in Phase 3. When Safi gets stunned during Supercritical Mode, everyone goes for the chest to break it (The most important parts for more rewards).
The biggest weakness of this build is, boring :(
Similar to LBG in Kulve.
