The amount of votes does not total to who wins the state or country, it's the state electors. If the majority of the electors pick a candidate, they win no matter what. There is a difference between voters and electors.

When you vote, you are telling the electors to pick the president. Some states have less than others. So if your in like Wisconsin your vote doesn't matter compared to a state like California. It's never been "voters pick the president" and it will never be.
