Thoughts on Doom Eternal
I played the game the night it came out and beat it on hurt me plenty in a few days. I recently started my ultra violence play through. What are you guys' thoughts on the game over all. I find that it has some great combat and a nice movement system. The game is challenging when it needs to be and is super satisfying to overcome these challenges. My favorite level is the ARC complex. What is your favorite level and weapon. I love the super shotgun.
My Thoughts on Doom Eternal's Coffee and Camo DLC
Doom Eternal has been met with a ton of positive reviews as players throw themselves into the beloved blood-soaked universe once more. With it being one of the most impactful releases to sweep the gaming community, it’s hard to imagine anyone not playing this or Animal Crossing right now. And all the more reason right now with the release of Series 2, a set of free DLC also known as Coffee and Camo.
Released for free to the masses, this event features a rather satirical-looking demon skin that is designed to look like your typical hipster stereotype. Converse shoes, suspenders, yellow-rimmed glasses, undercut hair, the whole 9-yards. In other words, a perfect target for gamers locked and loaded with plenty of weapons.
While this seems to be the primary selling point here, there are a variety of other aesthetic unlockables. Plenty of weapons will be getting new skins, there are new badges and nameplates to attach to your gamer IDs, and there are new skins for both the Pain Elemental and Slayer.
Of course, all of this is free. While you’ll have to earn these new items in-game, you can only spend XP to get them, as Doom Eternal has no microtransactions. In other words, you’ll have to earn them and prove yourself a dedicated player. This is a huge detail in the game’s favor right now, as it’s become increasingly common for games to try and release extra paid content soon after a game’s release to get an extra buck here and there.
Ultimately, this is a nice reason for the most dedicated of players to run through hell one more time, playing through the fun-filled campaign to get some nice-looking items. And I can’t really complain much, considering it’s all free to play. I just wish there was a more substantial piece of content here to try out. Everything on display is cosmetic, and while they might be one player’s jam, it doesn’t do much for me.
It’s also a shame that this content is temporary, as if you don’t go hunting for them right now, these items will likely be unattainable for any latecomers to the game. I’ve never been a huge fan of content that is only available for a limited time, as it creates a must-have mentality. Even when this content is free, now those gamers who haven’t had the chance to pick the game up feel pressured to hunt for a copy online so as to not get left out.
Overall, I’m glad that Doom Eternal is getting more content, even if it’s light and temporary. Hopefully, we’ll see some more substantial inclusions in the future. Have you been having fun hunting down these exclusive items? Show off your new stuff in the comments!

Doom Eternal: Season of Camo and Caffeine!
Yep, you read that right, Slayers and Demons! Just in case Doom Eternal wasn’t moving quite fast enough for your liking, you’ve got new groovy and caffeinated cosmetic items to work towards! Before we get into those items though, I’ve listed Week 1’s challenges below, so you can see what hoops you’ve got to jump through and how grisly your kills need to be to get the most profitable results.
The most tricky of these is going to be landing a precision shot with the Precision Bolt Mod while also airborne, but it’s going to simply require a precise combination of tools. Firstly, you will obviously need the Precision Bolt Mod for the combat rifle, but by this point, you should have already obtained this. If not, you can use Sentinel Batteries in the Doom base to unlock weapon mods pretty easily.
Secondly, you will need the Rune that slows down time while falling. This will allow you to focus in on a specific target and use the Explosive bolt upgrade to pop an entire crowd of imps and zombies in a single shot. Larger demons such as the Hell Knight of Mancubus will not be as easy targets, so I recommend avoiding them for this challenge.
The next challenge I’d like to focus on requires nine kills with the Crucible, or your super-badass energy claymore, in other words. Considering this behemoth of a weapon can cleave through any demon besides a Marauder, this will not be hard in practice, but acquiring the charges for this will prove the most time-consuming if doing this normally.
Thankfully, your boy Rowan has you covered.
The final mission of the game, which pits the Slayer against the titanic Icon of Sin features both a horde of demons to slay, as well as respawning charges for the Crucible. The challenge can be done in minutes and you can slay some of the biggest demons in the game while doing it. Remember, always gotta enjoy your work, Slayers. (You can also work on the chainsaw 50 demons challenge here too, but it’ll take far longer! )
Finally, the “Grenades for Days” challenge, which requires you to shatter 20 frozen demons with Frag Grenades. This means you’ve got to slam them with a cryo-grenade and immediately follow it up with the frag grenade (or two grenades, if you took that option) to clock in some icy gore. I recommend the ARC Facility Mayhem level for this, as the abundance of targets makes for a very target rich environment.
Now for loot! I’ve provided some images below of the new skins and cosmetics that are available, but I do recommend you log in-game to check them all out! Once you’re done, go chill out and relax at the Hipster Archvile’s café, man. Gotta keep things on the downlow after all, man, keep the java flowin’.
Which cosmetic do you like best, hipsters? Feelin' the caffeine-fueled buzzing yet? Or is that just your chainsaw...?
DOOM WALKTHROUGH!!!!! THIS GAME IS AWESOME!

Why Doom 2016 Is Better Than Eternal
Doom has been a well-beloved franchise for some time now, but especially so in recent years thanks to the phenomenal revival of the series in 2016. Taking the game to new levels of intensity, players were brought into an adrenaline-fueled world full of charm and murder. And gamers have been chomping at the bit ever since for the release of another entry in the franchise, so it’s no surprise that Doom Eternal has been the talk of the town for the last few weeks. And while the game delivers on almost every front and is quite a good game, I think there are some arguments that can be made to suggest that Doom 2016, as a whole package, is still a better game than Doom Eternal, with some bizarre design changes holding the sequel back from true greatness.
One of the biggest frustrations I found with Doom Eternal was the introduction of enemies with weapon-specific weaknesses. Creatures like the Cacodemon require very specific weapons to dispatch (in this case, a sticky bomb tossed into their gaping mouths). This, while fine from a theory, reduces how creative and interesting you can be when fighting these monsters, making every fight with them play out the same way. Wait. Toss the bomb. Wait for it to explode in the Cacodemon. Complete the finishing move by ripping out its eye. Rinse and repeat for every Cacodemon. It makes some fights feel a lot less interesting and a bit more tedious, which is a shame considering the wide arsenal you have access to and the creative ways you can kill so many other enemies.
These enemy-specific take-downs are repeatedly shoved down your throat during loading screens as well, making it incredibly difficult not to remember how to dispatch them. While it’s not a bad thing to have the game properly teach you how to kill it’s baddies, being constantly bombarded with the same tutorials can feel a little obnoxious, like the game is babying us, saying, “Now don’t forget the essential weak points, okay sweetie?”, patting you on the head and sending you on your way to the next level. It comes across, to me, as a little patronizing.
And, yes, some of you may be shouting at the screen, “But you CAN use other weapons against these enemies, you rube!” Well, yes, technically you can, but the game goes to such lengths to reinforce the optimal way to fight these foes, there’s almost no reason not to. Due to how fast-paced the game is, making one method of fighting a Cacodemon optimal and easy to remember makes it so the game is pushing you down a corridor of thought, telling you how to experience the game rather than you making those discoveries yourself.
This leads me to one of my other major gripes; enemy priorities. While, in Doom 2016, players were unclear as to when to take on what enemy in a scenario and how to do it well, in Doom Eternal, enemies are clearly classified in “need-to-kill-now” and “can-wit” categories. Buff totems and Arch Viles are great examples of this, enemies that work to spawn endless waves of little nuisances. Here, they become such a problem so quickly that they need to be dispatched right away, forcing the player’s hand by pressuring them to play in that one specific manner. Meanwhile, in Doom 2016, it might not be clear what order you should fight enemies, giving you more freedom to fight your foes in whatever order you fancy. Sure, there were still some answers that were better than others, but the game gave you more of a choice rather than creating threats that became all-consuming.
The last thing I’ll say is that, with your ammo caps greatly reduced in Doom Eternal, players are pressured to hunt specific creatures for ammo frequently, again, pressing players into a specific way of playing.
Ultimately, Doom 2016 provides more freedom of play, whereas Doom Eternal curates the experience a little bit more. I favor the original, but both games are perfectly good examples of great games.

What is it about Doom that makes it so popular?
Doom has made one of the most impressive comebacks in gaming history. Fueled by rage and violence and carnage and gore (did I miss any other words?), Doom has looked the FPS genre in the face and kicked its’ dainty teeth down its’ throat. But how? How does this series, which is molecularly on the same level as Duke Nukem (the game originally inspired by Doom) survive in today’s gaming world? Having recently dived in to the new Doom: Eternal, I’ll admit, I don’t really get it. While I’ve enjoyed my time with the game, it initially seemed like an empty experience to me with shockingly punch-less feeling combat. But, as I continued on, I found a surprising amount of depth and eventually got into a bit of a groove. Beneath it’s angry, blood pumping exterior, there is a game and a series that has far more under the surface than I initially assumed. Here’s what I’ve got to say about 2020’s ballsiest title so far.
Hell on earth. That’s a phrase that you used to describe countless movies and plenty of games too. None and I mean NONE even come close to the level of detail and dark beauty you see in each level presented here. Crazy structures and black and red skies paint some of the levels which then give way to even more otherworldly sights and sounds that are just some of the most incredibly detailed and creepy areas you’ll see in gaming. Every area creates a sense of dread, and the sounds and dark ambiance each has, is fully immersing and gives real gravitas to the feeling that you’re in hell, and your only way out is to fight. Each level is structured with several massive combat areas that utilize your ability to move incredibly fast and traverse areas with ease. The levels here are the stars of the show as much as the Slayer is.
If there’s one area where Doom: Eternal kicks every other competitors’ ass, it’s music. My god does this soundtrack rock. Plenty of games use generic rock to push their action forward, Dynasty Warriors, Devil May Cry etc, but few use it like Doom does. The soundtrack seems to build with each situation and it’s never generic. It’s a full-fledged, meticulously crafted metal opera that plays out over the cavalcade of madness that surrounds you at every moment during your time with Doom: Eternal. Mick Gordon has made a metal album for you to listen to while you eviscerate demons....is there anything more perfect? Check it out.
I’ll be honest, the days of me being fascinated by gore in games is long gone. It pretty much peaked at Mortal Kombat and ended shortly thereafter. Thankfully, Doom: Eternal doesn’t give a shit! It tells you to find your most memorable videogame kill and shove it, because here, we’re talking chainsaws, eye gouging, bone splitting and decapitations. The level of violence in this game stands alone, so, if you’re into that sorta thing, this is the place to be. Now I have one big issue with the brutality of the game, I just don’t feel it. Why don’t I feel it? Because literally I don’t FEEL it. The controller vibration does not register ANY of these insane finishing moves! How is that possible? How can I be cutting through a freakin demon with a chainsaw and feel less vibration in the controller than I would throwing a punch in WWE 2k20? The Shotgun kicks like a mule and all the other weapons seem to follow suit, so why can’t I feel that chainsaw or punching an enemies head into their spinal column? Is it my controller or is this a real issue?
At first glance, it’s just another shooter hopped up on steroids with nonstop action and blood everywhere. At second glance, it’s exactly that description plus two different features for each gun! And let me tell you that really matters. The weapon variety becomes just insane when you factor in the vastly different modes per weapon and it gives Doom: Eternal a feeling of power and variety that you just don’t find too often. Add to this, countless skins for the eponymous Slayer, the ability to reskin enemies, go melee, go long range, it’s just insane that this much depth is put into what seems like a straightforward game.
This is the main thing people love about Doom. You just feel like a badass and for once, the enemies are afraid of you. You are the final boss. You are the main thing everyone is trying to stop. It reverses the roles, it makes you the enemy of everyone, the demon collective is trying to finally stop you and it’s a unique way to play it. While most games have flawed anti heroes with dark past and blah blah fricken blah, Doom: Eternal gives you the main character with little to no information except that he’s here to kick some ass and be cool and that’s it really. Sure, there’s a story here, is it great? No. Does it need to be? Yeah, I think it should be, but whatever it’s not the focus here and the game knows that.
I’ll admit I wasn’t a big fan of Doom: Eternal to begin with, it seemed like a game lost in time that had refused to adapt to today’s standards. But, it broke me down. It fought through my cynical view on most first person shooters and said stop whining and rip this demons eye out and said “fine.” Doom: Eternal is a thrill ride, not my favorite ride, but I can understand why there’s a hell of a lot of passengers on this blood filled train to hell.
What do you guys think? Is Doom: Eternal everything you wanted in an FPS? Does is let you down sometimes? Is it too fast paced? Let’s talk about it below
I got DOOM Eternal yesterday and I beat it at around noon today
DOOM Eternal: The future of the Multiplayer.
So we’ve gone ahead and discussed a lot about DOOM lately! From the amazing lore that dives deep in to why the Slayer must rip and tear his way to victory, to the powerful abilities and skills available to the demonic characters in the multiplayer. As chaotic and thrilling as the BattleMode is, Doom’s true legacy is in its Deathmatch and other larger multiplayer modes that have yet to be implemented in to Doom Eternal. Doom 2016 had these modes, as well as many armor customizations that ran along with the modes for the player’s personal character.
With Doom Eternal already having a progression system featuring weekly challenges and experience, it wouldn’t be difficult to expand on the multiplayer options for Doom Eternal. There’s a few options that could be done, such as the DeathMatch I mentioned earlier and that Doom is famous for, as well as more objective-based modes like Capture the Flag, King of the Hill and many more. These modes would not only open up for more challenges and experience opportunities for players but also simply invite more players to join the game itself.
So, not only could we expand on the versus options for Doom Eternal’s multiplayer, but we can also easily expand and delve into a cooperative mode. Pitting 2-4 players against an endless horde of demonic and man-made monstrosities across the amazing maps that are offered in the Doom Eternal campaign, as well as new ones that could be offered later via the Season pass, would be the best way to add longevity to the amazing title that is Doom Eternal.
If the Season Pass is planning to add campaign and monster additions, we could possibly also see these enemies added in to the horde mode and help expand upon the challenges offered to players.
This brings me to my final point regarding a good challenge to those truly masochistic enough to embrace it. The Master Mode levels, maps offering a far greater array of demons and fights to push the player in the campaign, could possibly be offered for the Multiplayer Horde mode as well. Greater hordes and stronger foes would push the team of Doom Marines to their limits while offering greater rewards of XP or cosmetic rewards.
Let me know what you think of these ideas for expanding Doom Eternal’s multiplayer, as well as any ideas you guys may also have!

Doom Eternal: Rowan’s Guide to Demonic Roles
At last, you have returned to me. You have chosen your demon, yes, but in the end, each demonic form plays differently with their core abilities, as well as their role when working with the rest of the infernal legion. The Marauder is a personal favorite, so I shall use it as an example this time. Beyond the powerful abilities that each demon is able to wield through-out your battles with the Slayer, you are also able to select a set of four other powers depending on your personal style of play.
The first for the Marauder is a ranged kit, featuring the ability to summon both a Carcass (a ranged support unit capable of creating hard-light barriers) and an Arachnotron, a quick and dangerous long-ranged entity that has both missiles and an accurate turret at its disposal. With a very short cooldown in between, you are capable of summoning both of these demons at once during a match with the Slayer, but throwing out your resources and triggering both cooldowns may not be the wisest decision when you’re in a pinch as these demons can supply the Slayer with resources if simply chainsaw’d into fleshy bits.
This specific kit also includes the ability to increase the armor of the Marauder, decreasing the abuse you take from the Slayer by 50% for four seconds. The practical usage of this tool is simple, but like with the demons, timing is crucial to ensure that you aren’t taking more damage than needed. And finally, to control the movement of your prey, you can create a noxious hazard zone that will slowly chip away at the Slayer as long as he resides within.
This ability can be used to force the Slayer away from a wounded ally or perhaps even into a more dangerous threat, though be warned that the area is small. If placed in an open area, the Slayer will most likely use his extreme movement to go around the threat.
If you’re not the ranged type and wish to pressure the Slayer in to your perfect kill situation, the second set of abilities may be your… cup of tea, as the mortals put it.
This kit allows you to summon the slow but powerful Makyr flying drone, or the brutish Hell Knight demon. Both of these summons are excellent for providing pressure and a major threat to the Slayer as you move in for the kill. The Hell Knight especially excels at harassing the Slayer and when the mortal is distracted with that, he won’t be watching you and the rest of the horde.
Where the former kit had the ability to project a noxious zone of poison, the Pressure kit allows you to erect a healing zone, healing every demon within for 100 HP every second, for eight seconds total. Using your summons to provide damage while healing is about the best combination of your demonic gifts that you can do and will aid you in securing your victory of the heretical Slayer.
Each demon has its own kit for these battles, find the one that is your favorite and use it to crush the last remnants of human resistance.
Now go, you have expended my knowledge and I grow weary. Return to me with souls if you wish to know more…

Doom Eternal: What is Argent Energy?
In Doom Eternal, the Earth is under siege by a seemingly-endless horde of demonic monstrosities and beings, with deaths counting in to the millions and over 60% of the Earth consumed or terraformed. But why? Surely there is a reason behind all of this torment, bloodshed and conquest.
Aha, there is. Argent energy.
Centuries before the demonic invasion came to Earth, the demons fell upon another realm, the one of the Night Sentinels, a warrior-people who spread their form of peace and enlightenment through technology and the magic of their Makyr deities. It was through this that the Sentinel’s were able to at least hold ground against the demons, with the assistance of the Doom Slayer himself, and set their higher-ups to investigating the power source of the demons and the best way to conquer it.
What they discovered would ultimately spell disaster.
The Night Sentinel’s discovered that by mixing the demonic energies with their own magic and technology, they could create an Elixir that could heal the sick and empower almost every part of their society, even leading to new technological advancements against the demons such as gigantic war machines. As the Night Sentinels pushed back against the demons, the need for this Elixir born from demonic essence became integrated into everyday society, creating a problem. If the demons were ultimately defeated by the eager Doom Slayer and his fellow warriors from another realm, where would this power to continue to flow from?
The Makyr’s above made a choice for the Night Sentinels and everyone other soul among their people. In secret, a soul factory was built in a hellish city of the damned, where victims of hell’s legions would be stored, “tenderized” and ultimately go through the process of soul extraction. While the demons’ essence was potent and could create Argent Energy on its own, a pure soul was far more powerful and could be amassed in far larger quantities with the assistance of the demons themselves. Once the soul was extracted, the empty husk would become demon in time, only adding to the legion’s of Hell.
Channeling the soul through the factory, it was mixed with Sentinel energy and Hell essence, before being sent directly to the city of the Makyr people as the valuable Argent energy, to fuel conquests and power-grabs into other realms initially thought beyond their reach.
In the end, this is the goal of the demons, to leave no human untouched and no soul wasted, for Argent energy is the power of the future for all existence.
Though surely, a certain man with a vengeance for his pet rabbit aren’t going to allow that to happen…
